Chapter 798: Chapter 754: Evacuation
The communication room is illuminated with a red light indicating an emergency, and a figure clad in black and yellow armor is leaning against a broken instrument, smoking a cigarette.
Seeing Su Ming enter with Barbara, she flicked the cigarette away: "You’re really slow, I’ve already prepared the escape route. The underground here has been blasted open a bit, connected to the sewer. We’ll go through here to meet up with the Wave Rider."
"...Was everything you said just now true?"
Barbara grabbed Su Ming’s clothes with two fingers, asking somewhat urgently.
Su Ming leaned over to look into the big hole on the floor, then gave her a helpless glance.
"There are two Deathstrokes here, if we wanted to kill you, you wouldn’t even get a letter out. I wouldn’t lie about something small like this."
Barbara’s expression was very strange.
There was happiness and excitement, alongside relaxation and relief, but soon they mixed with other emotions, like regret and frustration, depression and helplessness.
She blamed herself internally for causing such a mess. If her father hadn’t died, she wouldn’t have thought of this ’resurrection’ method.
And thus, her plan not only became futile but also caused trouble for everyone, making her extremely ashamed.
But after hesitating and dithering for a moment, she suddenly realized something was off.
Why are there two Deathstrokes, and one is a woman?
"You all..."
Before Su Ming could introduce them, Cindy went over, first scanning Barbara up and down with her single eye and then lifting her hair from behind to sniff.
Barbara’s mouth corner twitched, shivering as she very much disliked the stranger being so close.
"Cheapest shampoo, also smelling of soap, armor cleaning and waxing are very amateurish." Cindy stepped back a few steps, returning to Su Ming’s side: "Height 170, weight 61, old injury on the waist, very young age, this must be the Barbara of your world, right?"
Su Ming shrugged, jumped into the big hole on the floor, and took out a phone to turn on the flashlight function.
"Yes, actually you didn’t need to say so much, you could just tell from the waist injury and hair color."
Cindy chuckled, signaling for Barbara to jump first while she covered the rear. Facing pursuit, she showed no tension but chatted leisurely with Su Ming.
"Actually, you don’t need that either. Even if she’s wearing the full Batman costume and mask... but still very tacky, this tacky feeling is practically her trademark."
"Hmm, makes sense." Su Ming nodded while carving a path ahead, jumping from the tunnel into the sewer: "Indeed quite tacky."
Barbara covered her face, even if the darkness of the sewer hid her expression, she felt equally embarrassed.
What kind of person is characterized by tackiness? Mud Face?
But she didn’t want to be like this either, she had no mother from a young age and later mixed with the Bat Clan, how could she possibly know how to dress up?
Thinking of this, a figure popped into her mind.
In the bright moonlight, a shapely tall beauty stands atop a skyscraper, dressed in a black tight leather suit, with big red wavy curls.
Her face is adorned with a black masquerade mask used by noble ladies at balls, a sharp-edged red bat mark on her chest. When a gust passes by, she would fly with it, ruthlessly punishing criminals.
Elegant and aloof unique beauty, dangerous yet sexy shadow of the night, all kinds of descriptions fall short for that woman.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t Barbara; the fashionable beauty is Kate Kane, the current Bat Heroine.
On the downside of photographic memory, just thinking about it brings Kate’s superhero image before Barbara’s eyes, comparing it to her own outfit...
She herself thinks she’s extremely tacky.
Despite both being from single-parent families, raised by their fathers, her father not only supports Kate in fighting crime but also spends a fortune making battle armor with a much better aesthetic level than Barbara’s director father.
Thus the results are clear; in stature, dressing, actions, demeanor, even the voice with the voice changer, Barbara loses.
After Batman recruited Kate into the Bat Clan, it’s like everyone forgot about Barbara, leaving her to play with the girls of Birds of Prey.
Cindy watched Barbara shrink like leaking air, slightly shaking her head as she laid traps along the path walked by the trio while closely following Su Ming.
When Barbara recovered from ’father survived’ and ’tackiness’, she realized she couldn’t remember the path she came from.
Now the trio walked through the complex Gotham sewer system, filled with stench, the noise of sewage nearby bubbling with dark froth.
The two Deathstrokes spoke with erratic pace, bouncing ideas, distracting her...
Barbara bit her lip; they say Batman is dark, Deathstroke is no better and even has no bottom line.
Though she decided to follow them and do as they said, they still executed a backup plan.
Now she turned into someone acting with wanted criminals, held front and back by two Deathstrokes in unfamiliar sewers, preventing her from changing her mind.
She didn’t even get to ask the woman’s identity before the other forcibly led the topic in an unexpected direction.
She sighed, she indeed was not mature enough, far from the path of a frontline superhero.
Moreover after this, she left herself vulnerable to the other side. Earlier, the phone used for illumination by Deathstroke was on recording mode the whole time...
Too dark.
"Speaking of Barbara, how did you manage to alter the world?" Su Ming turned his head slightly, glancing at the crestfallen her.
"Wasn’t it the Hall of Justice being flooded last time, and inside it was badly damaged by leaks..." Barbara scratched her head through the helmet, a bit embarrassed.
Su Ming understood, helplessly sighed: "So when you helped rebuild the Hall of Justice, you secretly took some exhibits from inside?"
"Batman and Superman were busy settling global citizens, responsible for repairs were squads like ours... Many display cabinets in the exhibition hall were broken, I picked up Troublemaker’s drawing board, thinking it was fake, but discovered it could exert 1% of Five-dimensional Power..."
Barbara didn’t avoid anything now, simply confessing the mistake.
Not only facing Deathstroke, but even facing the amnesiac Justice League giants upon world restoration, she must explain the situation and admit her fault.
If she tried to hide, not only would she feel uneasy but also might be used as a blackmail tool by Deathstroke.
Hence she outright admitted it.
"You’re pretty bold, playing with Five-dimensional Power without fear of drawing Tenth-Dimensional People?" Su Ming briskly moved forward, his leg feeling slightly numb but eager to switch back to his body.
Barbara heard a term unfamiliar to her again, though knowing Batman didn’t tell everyone everything, his secrecy seemed meaningless with Deathstroke casually divulging it.
Is it worth keeping any information secret?
However, maybe curiosity was suppressed too long, she quickly followed up: "What are Tenth-Dimensional People?"
Su Ming first spouted nonsense, disparaging Batman, then acted generously by explaining:
"A kind of high-dimensional demon, most famous among Five-dimensional People are Troublemaker and bat spirit. Their power can casually alter the current world’s state and narrative, like doodling on canvas. Tenth-Dimensional People are on a higher dimension, loving to eat Five-dimensional People as snacks."
"Eat people?" Barbara frowned.
"Otherwise why call them demons? Your world’s Batman protects you too much."
Cindy touched Barbara’s head from behind, the cold touch in the darkness made her break out in goosebumps.
