Chapter 476: Seeking Gu Shuo’s Help with Gifting Seeds 3
"We’re here, little one."
Ye Qianning let out a soft moan and rolled over.
"Do you want to sleep a little longer?" Zhan Chi saw her dazed expression and didn’t have the heart to wake her.
Ye Qianning lifted a hand to rub her eyes. She was, indeed, still a little drowsy.
Her drowsy eyes turned to Zhan Chi. She was a little surprised with herself. ’My subconscious must trust him. I slept more soundly than usual.’
"You can find Gu Shuo after you’ve woken up properly. It won’t be too late," Zhan Chi said gently.
Ye Qianning sat up. "I’m not sleeping."
"You wait here. The Gu family is dividing their assets today. I’ll go see if Gu Shuo is upstairs," Zhan Chi said, turning to lift the carriage curtain.
Ye Qianning stood up, her voice still raspy with sleep. "He probably wouldn’t get involved in the commotion."
"Hm?"
"The Gu family removed him from their family registry long ago. Do you really think they’d give him a share of the assets?" Ye Qianning said as she walked to the carriage door.
Zhan Chi understood immediately, but...
"Would Old Man Gu really have the heart to leave him with nothing?"
"Accepting a share of those assets would just be endless trouble down the line. Old Man Gu isn’t so foolish he can’t see that." Ye Qianning gave Zhan Chi, who was blocking the doorway, a gentle push, gesturing for him to get out of the carriage.
Zhan Chi thought that made sense. With so many people involved, all with their own agendas, there were bound to be some who would be deliberately difficult.
If someone who was kicked out of the family got a share of the inheritance anyway, Gu Shuo would probably be cursed by the other branches of the Gu family for the rest of his life.
He jumped down from the carriage and turned, holding out a hand to help the little one down.
Ye Qianning dodged his hand and jumped down from the carriage herself.
Zhan Chi seemed used to it. He pulled back his hand and rubbed his nose awkwardly. "You seem to know them all so well. Do you know me at all?"
"Your life is all about having fun. What’s there to know?"
"..."
Ye Qianning took a few steps forward and stopped in front of the Water Mirror Platform, gazing up at it.
The Water Mirror Platform was the tallest pavilion in the Capital City. It was shaped like a pagoda and was so prominent it could be spotted from outside the city walls.
This was the royal merchant guild, personally sanctioned by the Emperor. It managed merchant caravans from all over the nation, as well as their ledgers, personnel, procurement, and sales.
It was just like a modern-day head office; the people inside were all the bosses in charge of operations from various regions.
Ye Qianning glanced at it and walked inside. The first floor was bustling with attendants hurrying past, carrying ledgers. About seventeen or eighteen men who looked like Shopkeepers were meticulously counting them.
Once the tally was complete, a copy was transcribed and handed back to an attendant to return.
Judging by the attendants’ uniforms, many of them were clerks from shops within the city. The accounts were checked daily—the procedures were quite rigorous.
"Whoa, watch where you’re going, little one!" a man said hurriedly, not noticing the small child at his feet. He had almost run right into her.
Ye Qianning noted his black uniform with grey trim. It was similar to what the Shopkeepers counting the ledgers were wearing, so he was probably an attendant here.
"Little one, this isn’t a playground. You should go somewhere else," the man urged.
"I’m looking for Gu Shuo."
The man froze, looking the little girl up and down. Judging by her clothes, she didn’t seem to be from an ordinary family.
Capital City was full of influential people. The child was dressed expensively, looked well-fed, and had a bright, clever air about her. He naturally didn’t dare to treat her poorly.
"Which noble family are you from, miss? And what business do you have with our boss?"
"I..."
"It’s Gu Shuo’s great honor that this little one has come to see him," Zhan Chi said, walking up to Ye Qianning’s side.
Upon hearing this, the man looked at the handsome young gentleman before him. Who didn’t recognize the young master of the Zhan family?
The young master of the Zhan family and their boss had been at odds for years. For him to suddenly show up... the man’s intuition told him this was not a good sign.
"Is Gu Shuo here or not?" Zhan Chi asked, a hint of impatience in his voice.
"Young Master Zhan, what business do you have with our boss?" The man was shrewd. ’If he’s here to cause trouble, then Boss Gu is definitely not in.’
