Chapter 61: A Boy From Kingston Magical Academy

The forest fell silent. With the tweeting of bird, the only sound in the forest, then bang, a loud gunshot in the air, followed by bird bursting into the air, deserting their nest.

I whirled towards the gunshot. Randall. At least I confirm he is fine. The forest then returned with total silence from the fled birds.

"Gunshot?"

"Don’t have to fret it a friend he is a hunter, now tell. What you’re seeking here."

"It none of your business." The boy then clenched his grip on his arm as he raised it up, pointed at me. Mana swirled at his palm. "I can use magic." The boy declared. I cocked my head. "It seems you can’t gauge the amount of mana I wield."

"Tsk." The boy stayed speechless. He lowered his hand. "I fled from that stupid school." He muttered trailed by silence.

"I can tell. I’m asking why did you flee away. Your parents must be worried."

"You don’t know that and again none of your business."

"Well it is caused me nearly an heart attack. I would have unleash magic blazing and slain you before even questioning any question for invading my village."

"Your village? Do you realize who my father is? If you would have slain me they’ll dispatch an army marching to the dragon kingdom igniting a war between humans and dragons."

"Who’s going to know I slew you? And I’m not a dragon. I’m a human like you." I then perched on the branch beside the boy. He stayed wary. Eyes fixed on my wings at my back.

I followed his gaze. "This." I flicked my wing a flap. "It my magic."

"What kind of magic is that?"

"Lets handle it like this. For every of my questions you reply I’ll repay yours. So you scram the hell out of here before you draw trouble. Good with you?"

The boy fixed a scrutinizing stare on me then eased his guard a bit. "Okay."

"Good. Why did you flee from the school."

"They wouldn’t allow me see my mom and my stupid father insists claiming it for my own good." He lashed his leg in annoyance. "You must master magic the future of humanity rests on you gifted." He mimicked with a mocking tone. If I was to guess parroting his father who warned him the dragons are even plotting seizing our world.

My ears pricked. So the nobles are actually terrified of the dragons and their magic. Their drilling children to actually defeat them. It was nearly ironic since the magic bestowed to nobles were rather lesser to actually dragon magic. I filed it away.

"So you aren’t allowed to see your parents at all?"

"I do just thrice a month."

"You don’t receive holidays?"

"Ending of the month just for two weeks."

"And that fails enough."

"Uhhh yes it fails."

I lifted shoulders. "For me it is. I don’t have to see my parents everyday. But that’s me we contrast."

"..."

"Now I address your question. Reveal what magic is that? I assume you’re noble even though you." He scanned my clothing from head to toes. "You don’t appear like one."

"It named dragonpotent and I’m not just a noble. I’m the village chief of this very village you’re invading."

The boy gaped at me in suspicion. "You village chief. Aren’t you just about senior than me? And I’ve never encountered magic called dragonpotent."

"I’m 19. And yes my magic is rather singular."

"Just five years senior. I’m 14. I’m Daniel. You’re are?"

"Walter. So about your father. I believe your father is doing the best for you."

The boy then scowled. "How? The school is a prison. Their food fail to be as good as my homes chef cooking."

"Well you’re stuck on the luxurious you don’t perceive the bigger picture. I don’t suspect the dragon will strike but something mightier than the dragon will and believe me when I warn, you’ll need to shield people you cherish with your own hands. Your mother even your father you deem annoying."

Daniel flicked his eyes glancing away. "I’m not stuck on the luxury I said I longed my mom first."

"Yet that your comfort zone. You’ll fail to advance, if you don’t venture out of your comfort zone."

Daniel gazed at me.

He stared at me hesitantly.

"You should be grateful your father is breathing cause mine is perished. Don’t delay till when he is gone then you’ll appreciate his worth in your life. Do you understand?"

Daniel still wrestled to agree. He flicked his eyes away from mine then breathed. "Yet I still think dragons taking over our lands is far-fetched. If they desired to they could have struck the moment they landed when magic was foreign to us. But I’ll agree you’re correct for now."

I ruffled his head. "Now act a good kid and scram the hell out of my village."

"This a forest."

"It still within my village land."

Bang another gunshot sounded coming from another direction.

"Are you sure that’s your friend?" Daniel said.

"It’s him."

Daniel then rose to his feet. He nodded his chin. "I’ll be on my way out." His mana surged. "I might use your forest if my father choose to be a nuisance. Village chief."

He then launched to the air leaping from tree to tree. ’Mana enhancement.’ I observed as he made leaps someone his age could not. His figure then vanished farther away from the forest. At least I had learnt one thing I didn’t grasp at first. The nobles dreaded dragons. Those children in magic academy served their guard for the worst case scenario.

Would it be strong against the goblins and their superior magic? I don’t believe so. Till that time arrived, till we truly knew what they wanted we were stranded in the dark.

I tracked the sound of the gunshot locating myself in a clearing. Randall positioned rifle leveled at a gazelle just ahead with its hoofs trapped in sand from Madel magic. Madel knelt hand pressed to the ground as she commanded sand to trap the animal down. Then Randall readied his gun and fired the shot. Bang.

His barrel trailed smoke. Right on target the gazelle crumpled taking a bullet to its head.

"Seriously Walter the numbers of dragons I have seen since when you appeared it greater than the number I’ve spotted in my entire life." Randall slung his rifle on his shoulder. "Are they your inlaws."

"We don’t have time to squander. Madel I didn’t summon you here for such."

Madel shotup dusting her hands. "Sorry I thought I should offer a hand before you arrived."

"Those all apart. Randall your magic lesson begins today. You have only a week to master whatever affinity of your choice, before I depart Farmshill. Clear."

"You’re the boss." Randall saluted treating it as a joke but I remained dead serious. This village requires a guardian. Those goblins ain’t idling around, we must move fast.
