Chapter 45: Saving Quinette From Possession

Witnessing her ability upfront shattered all my imagination, hm.

Just as my hands slid from the soul knight’s arm. As I feigned being dead, I could sense my acting wasn’t perfect, but—Quinette was too far to notice the slight movement of my chest. The presence of her dark magic slammed into me. I felt something saturate the air, intoxicating it. The darkness that lurked beneath her sword broke loose.

I didn’t open my eyes to see. That would have broken the act. Her darkness was like a chill stabbing my spine.

Next, I didn’t sense any attack at the soul knight, just—Slash. And my body jerked down, slamming into the ground. With the knight’s severe hand still on my throat.

I lingered on the ground for some moment. I caught the sounds of bones breaking, flesh tearing. Soon after I sat up.

Quinette strode up to the soul knight using her technique. She sliced at different limbs. I observed from aside. She didn’t notice I was awake. Her mind was locked on the soul knight, ready to shed blood.

Her mana level engulfed the mana of the soul knight. The mana of the knights was being corrupted by Quinette’s mana. It warped in color. Her silver armour shed its glimmer.

Mana scan triggered on sighting her.

[Quinette (SSS) Forbidden Magic]

She was on the level of the soul knight.

Still stronger, her technique was more superior.

I rose, narrowing the distance to Quinette. She didn’t seem like herself. The forbidden magic was consuming her body, it ravaged her. I at first intended to seize the rest after her magic was awakened, deliver the final blow with soul freeze and my ice magic, but I had to take this first.

I surged to her, mere few steps. Slice—she already killed the dungeon boss.

Reality around us started to strip away, revealing the world outside. The trees and snow vanished.

I eased my steps. Standing behind Quinette, her breath rasped. She tightened her fist, whispered indistinct words.

But a word I caught. Blood.

I touched Quinette’s armour from behind her back.

"Quinette, are you still in there?"

She froze, deliberately turned to face me. Something in her darkened eyes flickered. She didn’t attack me. Just gazed vacantly. Nearly like she was trying to remember.

Mana surged from my palm, from my veins like streams. Blue air illuminated where I stood. I squeezed my eyes shut, sharpening my concentration.

With Quinette and I already mated, she carried my seed in her. Giving me the gateway to share my ability.

My mana blazed around her, clashing with the forbidden magic. The air thrummed around her. Both mana blazed. Hers were overpowered by mine, but I persisted in adapting to it.

I battled the force, keeping my hand still on Quinette. Whatever was in her glared at me. Her eyes blazed with rage. I stiffened. Her eyes were fixed on my neck. I knew what was coming.

Still, I couldn’t stop the contact. It wasn’t done yet. If she needed her eyes on me to work, then all I needed to do was cover her vision.

I jerked the rope of my robe. Lashed the robe in her face, blinding her eyes. Pulled it to tighten. While keeping contact with her, Quinette raised her palm to use her directly severing magic. But she restrained herself. Gripping into her arm.

It was a relief her consciousness was fighting back. She couldn’t move. Every limb of hers rigidified, straining to move.

Blue light started seeping out from her dark mana. It ballooned up. A shrieking sound tore from her lips. The air thrummed.

It spiked then ebbed. I held my hand still. Steadying my breath. I paused for a reaction.

Quinette’s hand slipped free. She tentatively fumbled for the blind, pulling it down. A tear traced down her cheeks. Her darkened eyes faded back into her normal pupils.

Her breath hitched. "You’re alive."

For a moment we locked eyes, before Quinette rushed to me. I welcomed her drawing into an embrace. She didn’t cry more, just holding onto me. Just a full minute of silence.

I held her in my arms, threading my fingers through her hair. She drew back from my embrace. Her tear-streaked face rendered her delicate face even sadder.

"Quinette, you belong to me now. You owe no loyalty to the Queen."

I pressed my palm to her flushed cheeks, gazing into her eyes. She bobbed her head desperately. "Yes, Walter~"

A sensation burned at my chest. I struggled to identify it. A crucial stage toward my goal was complete. With Quinette I could get the border pass.

The dungeon final ending. I gazed at the heavy sky, with snow still falling, reality warping, revealing a sunny sky with sunrays pouring through, casting a spotlight on me with Quinette in my embrace.

"Look, we’re about to—"

I didn’t finish my sentence before another presence joined us. Quinette whirled, she recoiled sharply, ready to cut at whoever it was.

"A wonderful couple is what you two are." Amiko remarked. She was clad in a black mage robe. In her hand was a huge wand with carvings in its wood. "Still, having sex on my chair is so uncultured."

Amiko spat. Her face contorted in disgust.

The moment Quinette advanced into the light, Quinette’s mana blazed. She zeroed in on Amiko. Her eyes darkened, intent, unleashing her forbidden magic. The piercing stare made Amiko recoil. She retreated a step. "Don’t glare at me like that. You look scary, dragongirl."

I halted Quinette, seizing her by the wrist.

"Don’t. She’s mine. I’ll take care of her myself."

Quinette hesitated. Her eyes reverted to normal. She steadied herself, returning to my side. "She needs to suffer, for the hell she dragged us into."

"I know just that. In fact I still remember the pain she caused me at the mansion. When she attempted to kill me."

The air around my hand hissed. Mana streamed from my palm, coalescing into my daggers. Balanced at a dangerous stance.
