Chapter 34: Catfights (2)
He did not expect that Silvia had been paying attention to him down to such small details, things that even he himself was not aware of.
When he worked on something, he did not like following conventional solutions. He could always think in a more unorthodox way, which sometimes led to him being criticized by teachers for using the wrong method.
However, there were also teachers who praised him. They said that if Liam focused on studying, he might be able to enter a prestigious university.
Unfortunately, Liam could not do that. His schedule was already very packed.
Anyway, Liam was pretty surprised when he heard Silvia call that his strength.
Silvia immediately lowered her head without realizing it and rubbed her thumb against the handle of the teacup she was holding.
Meanwhile, Miria could only grit her teeth. She was fully aware that the girl in front of her really wanted to target her Liam. How dare she set her eyes on something that already belonged to someone else.
This shameless bitch!
Even though her heart was filled with curses that were not appropriate for the author to write now, her face still maintained her image as the student council president who was respected by the students.
Miria held her chopsticks, ate a piece of fish, and then dabbed her mouth with a napkin.
"Yeah, you are right. Liam has many strengths and other unique qualities that other people do not even realize." Miria said on purpose, as if telling Silvia that she knew Liam better as a person.
Then her eyes narrowed. Her lips were slightly tinged with sarcasm. She spoke to Silvia.
"Silvia, you turned out to be very outstanding and surprisingly very caring toward your classmates. You even pay attention to Liam to that extent."
Silvia could feel the hidden threat in every word Miria, the Prez, spoke in front of her now. She did not expect Miria to be so close to Liam.
Well, they were also childhood friends, and Liam had met Miria earlier than her back in elementary school.
However, she still remembered that Liam had run away from Miria because he could not stand her closeness. That led to Liam meeting her and forming a more solid and stable friendship.
Could not this be interpreted as Liam feeling far more comfortable with her than with Miria?
A small sense of victory sparked in Silvia’s heart, which made her not provoked by what Miria said.
She could only smile upon hearing that, which made Miria even more annoyed inside.
Miria then decided to attack more aggressively.
"However, we will soon enter senior year, and the final semester exams are coming up." Miria continued. "It is better to focus on your own studies, right? After all, at this stage, if there is any distraction that hinders you, it will definitely affect your future, Silvia."
Miria spoke as if she cared about Silvia, when in reality she wanted to keep Silvia away from Liam’s side.
Her eyes glanced toward Liam before returning to face Silvia.
"Otherwise... there might be a simple-minded dummy who gets the wrong idea and has unnecessary misunderstandings." Silvia said as if warning Liam.
She said it in a light tone as if she were only joking.
But Liam understood very well what she meant.
And Silvia understood it even better.
The silence grew more suffocating, making the atmosphere increasingly uncomfortable.
Silvia’s fingers resting on her skirt began to tense up, and she gripped the fabric until it made a slight sound.
She stared at Miria’s face for quite a long time.
Miria could see that something was off with Silvia’s condition. Silvia’s black eyes were like a black hole that wanted to suck Miria into it.
For the first time, Miria felt a slight fear.
Silvia then smiled politely and nodded at Miria.
"...Thank you for the reminder, Prez." Silvia said gently.
Miria immediately checked her phone and spoke quickly.
"Ah, I have some business to attend to. It seems I have to leave first."
She stood up and faced Silvia one last time. "Thank you for chatting with me, Silvia. It was quite enjoyable. Also, please take care of Liam, and if you feel uncomfortable with him, tell me. I will punish him."
Miria’s eyes swept toward Liam, which made his body straighten slightly.
She then leaned close to Liam’s ear and whispered in a soft, small voice that was enough to show their closeness, and loud enough for Silvia to hear.
"Come over to my house tonight. My mom is back, and she said she wants to meet her son-in-law." It was her final desperate provocation toward Silvia.
Silvia raised her eyebrows, truly shocked by what Miria had just said.
Miria then stood straight, her posture fitting her perfectly.
Miria smiled, then turned around and left. From behind, her hair fluttered in the wind, and Liam could see a small gesture where Miria’s thumbnail rubbed aggressively against her palm.
That gesture implied that Miria was experiencing heavy irritation and annoyance.
Liam rested his head on his palm and let out a very heavy sigh.
’Why does this type of shenanigans always keep happening around me.’ Liam thought helplessly.
Liam rubbed his face with his palms, then slowly opened his eyes.
He found Silvia still sitting across from him, sipping her tea while looking at the scenery outside. Her face was illuminated by sunlight, but her black eyes seemed to accept no light at all.
"About your request earlier..." Liam decided to break the silence.
Silvia looked at him and immediately replied. A smile appeared on her lips.
"I will not take it back, Liam. Nor will I ask you to forget it. You can think about it again, because you are the only person I can rely on. Liam." Silvia’s face softened greatly, almost looking like a little kitten asking for help on the side of the road.
Liam’s heart grew even heavier. He did not know how to respond now. In the end, Liam could only say,
"Yeah... I’ll think about it." Liam said with a bitter smile.
Then, the bell signaling the end of lunch break rang.
Ding-Dong.
Silvia and Liam immediately cleaned up their cafeteria plates. They stood up, returned the plates, and then walked to class in silence.
Neither of them spoke along the way.
