Chapter 58: Six major cities
[POV]: Henry.
Through the practice match with the new members, I gained a clear understanding of their strengths.
All of them were very strong. If I hadn’t learned [Wind God’s Kick], things might have gone very differently. Of course, I still would have won, but it certainly would’ve caused me a lot of trouble.
Eventually, I might have killed all of them if I had let my monster loose.
I nodded to myself in satisfaction before wheeling my wife back to our apartment outside the academy.
A day later, I wheeled my wife to the club office.
After discussing a few matters, I decided it was time to proceed with the club’s first mission. I told Jaxon to turn on the computer and log into the academy’s website to access the club missions.
Jaxon kept his eyes on the screen as his fingers flew across the keyboard nonstop.

Kellan frowned.
"I don’t think ’Trash’ is a good name for our club."
Maris and Hugh simply nodded in agreement.
My wife let out an annoyed sigh and turned to look at me.
"But we can’t change it anymore."
I remained silent, having nothing to say.
A few minutes later, Jaxon finally found a suitable mission for us. At our club’s current rank, even finding an easy mission was difficult.
—
Description: Eliminate the remaining monsters that escaped from a monster gate over the past week in the town of Texas, on the outskirts of Skyline City.
Rank: E
Reward: 5,000 Credits

Jaxon asked quietly, avoiding eye contact with me. He seemed to be the timid type.
"What do you think, President?"
I let out a sigh.
"We’ll take this one. We leave at 1:00 p.m."
But suddenly, Hugh spoke up.
"President, I don’t think we should choose this mission."
I turned to Hugh and tilted my head in amusement. Maris, Jaxon, Kellan, and my wife all looked at him curiously.
Hugh began to explain.
"Texas is my hometown, so I know that place very well. Monster gates appear there almost every year, so it’s overrun with monsters. More importantly, it’s a haven for criminal gangs. Skyline City is deeply corrupt, and we won’t have anyone protecting us if we stay there."
Hugh lingered for the moment before saying.
’’Plus, I don’t want to come home, so if you choose this mission. Sorry, for this time, I can not follow you guys.’’
I rubbed my chin as I considered Hugh’s advice. If that place was truly dangerous, there probably wasn’t a better place for me than that.
I was sure the system would give me the missions to protect my wife.
I liked this idea
"Thank you for your input. I appreciate it, but I’ve already made my decision. I won’t take my words back."
Hugh nodded.
"Then..."
I cut him off.
"Don’t worry. I understand. You don’t need to explain yourself. But I want more information about your hometown and the criminal organization there."
...
Hugh scratched his head.
"I mean... May I head home early? I have some business to take care of."
...
I stayed silent for a moment before letting out a long sigh. My wife tried to hide her smile as she looked at me.
"You can go."
Hugh walked past me before saying,
"I’ll send the information before you guys go."
A few minutes later, I turned to Jaxon.
"Jaxon, try to gather as much information as you can about Texas on the internet. Combine it with the information Hugh sends, then send the compiled report to me before 1:00 p.m."
Jaxon nodded and immediately turned his full attention back to the computer. Given his talent, I believed he could dig up even deeper information on the internet.
After I finished arranging everything, my wife and I had lunch. Eventually, we took a nap at our apartment before returning to the academy at 12:45 p.m.
I took out my phone and read the information Jaxon had sent me.
[Jaxon]: President, I’ve found some useful information for you. I’ve summarized it below.
– The Black Crow Gang controls the town of Texas. Its leader was recorded as F+ Rank according to data from three years ago. His identity remains a mystery.
– On average, monsters escape from the gates and attack the town five to six times a week. The townspeople are forced to pay protection fees to the gang in exchange for dealing with the monsters.
– The town is home to numerous brothels and serves as a major hub for drug trafficking and the illegal organ trade.
– There are rumors that worshippers have visited the town several times.
I narrowed my eyes as I read through the information on my phone.
"So, it’s true."
My wife perked up at my words and asked,
"What’s true?"
I replied,
"This mission won’t be easy."
Then, a faint smirk spread across my emotionless face, making even my wife flinch.
"But it’s a good chance to grow stronger."
At 1:00 p.m., our group set off for Skyline City, one of the six major cities of Ashenvale.
Dawnreach City
Zenith City
Apex City
Titan City
Skyline City.
As Hugh had said, Skyline City was the most corrupt and underdeveloped region. It wasn’t because the Pendragon family or the government didn’t care about it, but because the area lacked resources and monster gates appeared relentlessly. So, they only gave the region limited support.
So, it was clear that the city was an ideal haven for criminals and all kinds of scum.
"What a fucking shithole. I never thought Hugh could grow up in a place like this," Kellan spat as he watched a group of police officers chasing a gang through the streets.
Maris clasped her hands together and prayed.
"May God have mercy on this land."
I helped my wife off the bus before addressing everyone.
"From now on, stay focused on the mission. Don’t let the city’s problems distract you. We’re heading to the town of Texas right now."
