Chapter 2419: Story 2420: The Fifth Seal
The cracking sound echoed across creation.
It came again.
Louder.
Longer.
As though an invisible chain stretched across the universe had finally begun to break.
Every living soul heard it.
Every undead creature heard it.
Even the Devourer lowered its enormous head toward the heavens.
Listening.
Waiting.
Smiling.
The Ancient One stood motionless as darkness and silver light swirled around its shifting form.
For the first time since appearing, uncertainty touched its ancient eyes.
"The Fifth Seal..." Noah whispered.
The words felt heavy.
Dangerous.
The Ancient One slowly nodded.
"Before kingdoms existed..."
Its voice rolled across the battlefield.
"Before the Guardians."
"Before the Devourer."
The sky trembled.
"There were Five Seals."
Silence followed.
Malthor’s black wings folded behind him.
The Throne King tightened his grip on his staff.
The Crimson Queen looked away.
They already knew the story.
Or part of it.
"The First Seal contained Chaos."
"The Second Seal contained Oblivion."
"The Third Seal contained the Devourer."
"The Fourth Seal contained Endless Night."
The Ancient One paused.
Its expression darkened.
"The Fifth Seal contained something even I feared."
A chill spread through the battlefield.
Noah looked toward the distant heavens.
"What is inside it?"
The Ancient One did not answer immediately.
Instead, it looked toward the Devourer.
The monster’s smile widened.
A smile filled with anticipation.
Finally, the Ancient One spoke.
"Freedom."
Nobody understood.
Not at first.
Then Noah felt the Silver Crown flash.
A vision erupted before his eyes.
He saw the beginning.
Not of humanity.
Not of Earth.
The beginning of existence itself.
Stars ignited.
Galaxies formed.
Worlds were born.
And behind every creation stood a force.
A limitless force.
A force that desired absolute freedom.
Freedom from laws.
Freedom from order.
Freedom from reality itself.
The vision shattered.
Noah stumbled backward.
"If it escapes..."
The Ancient One finished the sentence.
"There will be no universe left to save."
The battlefield erupted.
A deafening crack split the heavens.
The clouds tore apart.
Space itself fractured.
A glowing silver line stretched across the sky.
Then another.
Then hundreds.
The Fifth Seal was breaking.
Far below, the Devourer released a roar of triumph.
At last.
Its true goal was becoming clear.
The destruction of Earth had never been enough.
The destruction of humanity had never been enough.
Even the destruction of worlds had never been enough.
The Devourer wanted the Fifth Seal opened.
It always had.
Everything else had been preparation.
Everything else had been a distraction.
Malthor suddenly looked horrified.
"No..."
The Ancient One turned toward him.
"You finally remember."
The Forgotten Fourth King froze.
Fragments of ancient memory returned.
The prison.
The corruption.
The whispers.
The manipulation.
For ten thousand years, the Devourer had not merely imprisoned him.
It had used him.
Used his power.
Used his suffering.
Used Endless Night itself.
Every action had weakened the Fifth Seal.
Every battle.
Every death.
Every age of despair.
The realization hit Malthor like a blade.
"I helped break it."
The Devourer’s laughter shook reality.
"Yes."
Black fire erupted from the monster’s scales.
"You were my greatest weapon."
The sky split open completely.
Beyond the crack waited something impossible.
A colossal eye.
Neither crimson.
Nor silver.
Nor black.
Pure white.
Endless.
Ancient beyond imagination.
The eye opened slowly.
And every power on the battlefield immediately felt insignificant.
The Devourer stopped laughing.
The Ancient One bowed its head.
The Guardians froze.
Even the universe itself seemed afraid.
Then the white eye looked down upon creation.
And a voice older than existence whispered:
"Who dares awaken me?"
The Fifth Seal had broken.
And something far worse than the Devourer had arrived.
