Chapter 2418: Story 2419: The Ancient One
The universe held its breath.
The crimson meteors hung motionless above the battlefield.
Frozen.
Not falling.
Not burning.
Simply waiting.
Even the Devourer appeared stunned.
The cosmic monster’s enormous wings stopped moving. Its crimson eyes remained fixed upon the darkness behind Malthor.
Something was emerging.
Something that should not exist.
The shadows of Endless Night parted slowly.
A figure stepped forward.
At first, it appeared human.
Tall.
Thin.
Draped in robes woven from pure darkness.
Yet the longer anyone looked, the less human it seemed.
Its form shifted constantly.
One moment old.
The next young.
One moment male.
The next female.
As if reality itself could not decide what it was seeing.
Noah felt the Silver Crown vibrate violently.
The ancient silver runes glowed brighter than ever before.
King Arcturus dropped to one knee.
The Throne King lowered his head.
Even the Crimson Queen looked shaken.
Only Malthor remained standing.
Though fear still lingered within his eyes.
The figure smiled.
Not cruelly.
Not kindly.
Simply knowingly.
"I have watched for a very long time."
Its voice echoed through every mind simultaneously.
Aiden felt tears forming without understanding why.
Marcus felt memories he had forgotten years ago.
Lena remembered her childhood.
Father Gideon remembered every prayer he had ever spoken.
The being seemed connected to all things.
To all memories.
To all existence.
The Devourer finally spoke.
Its voice carried hatred unlike anything the survivors had ever heard.
"You."
The figure nodded.
"Yes."
The Devourer roared.
The sound shattered distant mountains.
"You imprisoned me!"
The Ancient One looked almost amused.
"No."
Its gaze shifted toward the four kingdoms.
"The Guardians imprisoned you."
Then it looked back at the monster.
"I merely built the prison."
Silence followed.
Noah stared.
Even Malthor seemed surprised.
The Ancient One had existed before the guardians.
Before the kingdoms.
Before recorded history.
Perhaps before humanity itself.
The figure turned toward Noah.
Its eyes contained entire galaxies.
"You have questions."
Noah swallowed.
"A lot of them."
The Ancient One smiled.
"You deserve answers."
Before Noah could speak again, the Devourer attacked.
Thousands of crimson meteors suddenly broke free.
They screamed toward the battlefield.
Toward the armies.
Toward humanity.
Toward everything.
But the Ancient One simply raised a finger.
The meteors vanished.
Not destroyed.
Not deflected.
Gone.
Erased from existence.
The battlefield gasped.
Even the Devourer recoiled.
For the first time, the cosmic horror looked genuinely terrified.
"You cannot interfere!" the monster roared.
The Ancient One’s expression darkened.
"I have not interfered."
The stars briefly appeared within its eyes.
"For ten thousand years."
A cold wind swept across the wasteland.
The being looked toward Malthor.
Then toward Noah.
Then toward the assembled rulers.
"The cycle was always yours to break."
Its voice softened.
"But the final choice belongs to humanity."
The Silver Crown flashed.
Suddenly Noah saw another vision.
A future.
Not one future.
Millions.
Countless possibilities.
In some, the Devourer won.
In others, Malthor fell.
In others, the world survived.
Yet every future shared one detail.
One missing piece.
One final truth.
A door.
A silver door hidden beyond reality.
Locked.
Waiting.
The Ancient One looked directly at Noah.
"You have found the heir."
Its gaze shifted toward Malthor.
"You have found the lost king."
Then it turned toward the distant horizon.
Toward somewhere beyond sight.
Beyond the battlefield.
Beyond the world.
Its expression became serious.
"But the Fifth Seal is breaking."
Every ancient ruler froze.
The Throne King’s staff slipped from his grasp.
The Crimson Queen stepped backward.
Even Malthor looked alarmed.
Noah’s heart raced.
"The Fifth Seal?" he asked.
The Ancient One slowly closed its eyes.
A distant cracking sound echoed across the heavens.
The sound of something ancient breaking.
Something vast awakening.
Something even older than the Devourer.
And for the first time since its return, the cosmic monster smiled.
