Chapter 159: Chapter 159 Her dignity

“Why... did you take so long to come...”

Stephan keenly sensed that something was wrong with her and instantly wiped the casual smile from his face.

Furrowing his brow, he explained in a low voice.

“Sorry, there was traffic on the way. What’s wrong?”

He reached out and pulled the girl in his arms close.

A large hand, calloused from hard work, gently cupped her soft head and stroked it

tenderly.

Alana felt the man’s large hand on her head; it carried a silent comfort and was quite warm.

She took a deep breath.

“It’s nothing. I just wanted to...hold you close...”

She had just been overcome by emotion and lost control for a moment. She wanted to hold him, to find a little comfort. She’d be able to pull herself together very soon.

Her ability to bounce back has always been strong.

Stephan didn’t read too much into it; he just assumed she was physically and mentally exhausted from working overtime for days on end.

He ruffled her hair again and said, indulgently, “It’s okay. Hold on as long as you want. Your boyfriend’s embrace will always be yours alone.”

Alana’s eyelashes fluttered slightly.

The warmth radiating from him, along with his soft reassurances, silently soothed the restlessness hidden deep within her heart.

She felt comforted, yet for some reason, her eyes stung slightly. Because whenever she felt down, she almost always bore it alone, silently processing all her negative emotions.

She believed that pain was only temporary, and that time would heal everything.

But now, there was someone by her side, letting her hold him, gently comforting her, and offering her a warm embrace.

It was as if a powerful force had been infused into her body, filling her with a warm, comforting sensation.

The pain and panic in her heart gradually faded, replaced by a hint of sweetness that arose from his comfort and affection.

Alana couldn’t help but feel a hint of dependence; she gently nuzzled her cheek

against the man’s chest, soft and clingy like a little kitten.

“Okay, then I’ll hold you a little longer.”

Cole drove Camila home, then, ignoring her protests, hurried back to the company entrance.

But to his surprise, when he returned, Alana was already gone.

Cole frowned. Had she left?

He had clearly told her to stay put and wait for him. Besides, she was clearly in a bad mood, Camila’s appearance had obviously upset her.

Back in school, she and his sister hadn’t gotten along very well.

Even though he had tried to mediate between them several times, it hadn’t made much of a difference. And this sudden encounter tonight was even more...

Cole was quite concerned about Alana’s situation and couldn’t help but pull out

his phone to send her a message.

Cole: [Where are you?]

[I told you to wait for me to get back. Why didn’t you wait?]

He waited a long time for her reply but nothing came. Cole grew worried and couldn’t help but call her.

At that moment, Alana was having dinner with Stephan at a high-end restaurant. They had ordered over a dozen dishes, most of which were Alana’s favorites.

Among them was a plate of crayfish, the restaurant’s signature dish.

However, they hadn’t been peeled.

Alana wanted to pick one up and try it.

Stephan sensed her intention, so he promptly put on a pair of disposable gloves and took a crayfish himself. He began peeling it slowly and carefully. “It’s time for your boyfriend to step up, I’ll help my girlfriend peel it.”

Alana smiled, her lips pressed together. He sure knows how to seize an opportunity. Hmm, bonus points!

Major bonus points!

After peeling the crayfish, the man fed it directly into her mouth.

He asked with a smile, “Your boyfriend peeled these. Do you like them?”

Alana chewed thoughtfully, a glistening streak of oil spilling from the corner of her

mouth.

Then she nodded. “It’s delicious.”

Stephan stared at the glossy sheen at the corner of her mouth. “I want to try it too. Is it good?”

Alana, eager to show off her skills as a girlfriend, offered proactively, “I’ll peel one for you.”

However, before she could make a move, the man suddenly lowered his head and captured her soft, delicate lips.

Alana’s eyes dilated.

What was he doing?

They were still eating!

The man fumbled around in Alana’s mouth for a while, kissing her until her face turned bright red before finally letting her go.

He deliberately made a few smacking sounds, a smirk playing on his lips.

“Compared to the ones my girlfriend peels herself, I still think the ones in my mouth taste better.”

Alana’s cheeks flushed bright red again.

He actually likes it when it’s fed to him through her mouth?

What a perverted man.

She didn’t dare look up at anyone, afraid someone might notice the heated exchange she’d just shared with him.

“Behave yourself while we’re eating! We’re still out in public!”

The man chuckled softly. “Yeah, I’ll be inappropriate with you once we get back.”

Alana bit her lip and couldn’t help but shoot him a reproachful glance.

He was so naughty!

How could there be such a naughty man?

But the more mischievous he was, the more she seemed to like him. What should she do? Wah!

She’d caught the bug and was getting a little naughty herself.

Suddenly, her phone in her pocket vibrated. Alana quietly pulled out her phone and saw it was a message from Cole. She bit her lip, not wanting to respond.

But to her surprise, Cole actually called her.

The all-too-familiar, cheesy ringtone rang out, shattering the tender moment.

“I’m late! I’m late!”

“You’re going to be late for work!”

“The early bird catches the worm!”

“Are you getting up? Are you getting up? If you don’t, I’ll starve you to death!”

Alana blinked.

Feeling awkward, she frantically declined the call.

Stephan glanced at her. “It’s so late. Who was calling you?”

She bit her lip; subconsciously, she didn’t want Stephan to know about her past relationship with Cole.

“My boss, Manager Cole. He was probably calling about work.”

Stephan raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”

Alana felt inexplicably guilty and nodded vigorously, “Mm-hmm.”

It wasn’t so much that she didn’t want Stephan to know about her relationship with Cole, but rather that she didn’t want him to discover she had a rather unpleasant past and had gone through some difficult experiences.

Few people have the courage to expose their shameful past to someone they care about.

She simply felt deeply insecure and wanted nothing more than to hide those memories, presenting herself as the “normal” girlfriend she believed she should be.

She dared not imagine what would happen if Stephan found out she was a child abandoned by her parents, would he continue to treat her as kindly as he always had?

Would he, like those people in the past, look at her with disapproving eyes, or even shamelessly mock and humiliate her?

Those vicious words had left a deep mark on her, haunting her like a nightmare and keeping her awake at night.

Stephan stared intently at her, his eyes deep and intense.

Alana bit her lip, hesitant to meet his gaze.

His gaze was piercing, as if he could see right through her.

Stephan could tell the young woman was hiding something from him. Though he didn’t know what it was, she seemed unwilling to tell him.

Perhaps their bond wasn’t quite solid yet; it was only natural that she wouldn’t want to be completely open with him.

All right, no rush. He would take it step by step, slowly winning her over until she was willing to trust him and accept him with her whole heart.

He suppressed the intense possessiveness in his eyes and gradually averted his gaze from her. “All right, let’s eat first.”

Seeing that the man wasn’t pressing her further, Alana couldn’t help but breathe a

sigh of relief.

How wonderful, without even realizing it, he had preserved her dignity.
