Chapter 158: Chapter 158 Drama queen
Camila and that gang of thugs verbally humiliated her and mocked her.
Camila even ordered the thugs to molest her. She fought back desperately, but Camila called her a drama queen and slapped her hard across the face.
She then ordered those thugs to kick and beat her. At that moment, facing a whole group of them, she seemed small, pitiful, and helpless. She was only just starting eighth grade; she had never faced such a dangerous situation before.
At that moment, her fear reached its peak.
“I didn’t mean to get your skirt dirty!” Camila sneered at her, “Alana, I just can’t stand you! Who told you to have that innocent-looking face? Who told you to steal all the spotlight from me in class? This is what you get!”
“Today, don’t even think about getting away. I’m going to make you pay!”
Just as Camila was ordering those thugs to humiliate her, Cole appeared just in time.
Cole attended the same school as her.
Cole was in 10th grade, and she was in eighth.
He was the school’s undisputed top student, consistently ranking first in every exam.
He was as bright as the sun and as gentle as the moon, the dream boyfriend of every girl in school.
Given how outstanding and famous he was at school, Alana naturally knew him.
As soon as Cole appeared, he immediately intimidated that group of thugs.
He stepped in front of her, towering like a mountain, blocking the leering stares directed at her.
“Cami, that’s enough! Who gave you the right to bully people like this? Take your people and get out of here!”
“If I catch you hanging out with this crowd again, don’t blame me for telling Mom and Dad, I’ll make sure they teach you a lesson!”
Camila burst into tears, frightened by Cole’s threatening tone. After a few tearful protests, she was forced to take the thugs and leave.
At that moment, Alana was crouched on the ground, trembling uncontrollably. Cole bent down, looked at her, and spoke gently.
“It’s okay now. As long as I’m here, I won’t let them bully you.”
Alana lifted her reddened eyes. A beam of light fell precisely on Cole; at that
moment, his smile was gentle, and his entire body was bathed in a sacred glow.
It was as if she were seeing a light meant just for her, a light that would redeem her. Later, Cole took her to a nearby pharmacy, bought some ointment, and applied it to her wounds himself.
He said to her, “Camila is my younger sister. What she did to you just now was
completely out of line. I’m apologizing to you on her behalf. When we get back, I’ll have a serious talk with her and make sure she never bullies you again.”
“If she bullies you again in the future, just come find med, I’ll take care of it for you! But... could you please not tell anyone about what happened today?”
The young girl was filled with fear over what had just happened. With someone willing to protect her, she instinctively clung to him, not stopping to think about whether this would be to her advantage or not.
“Okay.”
So later, to protect herself, she stayed by Cole’s side for a very, very long time. And Cole, just as he had promised, continued to look out for her.
She was truly grateful to him. Whether his feelings for her were genuine or not, the fact remained that he had helped her.
But she knew all too well that there was too much standing between them; they weren’t meant to be. She had harbored a long time crush on him so when he confessed he liked her in college, she swiftly agreed to date him.
Now, thinking about it, she wished she had stayed away from him.
Cole sighed bitterly; she couldn’t stand seeing Alana so calm.
Especially now that so many time had passed, Alana’s features had matured, making her even more beautiful.
Back in school, Alana had always outshone her in beauty.
Whenever Alana was around, Camila’s moment in the spotlight would vanish. Even her most ardent admirers would abandon her the moment they saw Alana, turning their attention to her instead.
There was a boy she had liked back then, but in the end, he turned around and went after Alana instead.
What’s even worse is that Alana wasn’t just beautiful, she also got better grades than Camila.
Apart from her higher social status, Camila was outshone by Alana in every other way.
Having always been held on a pedestal and fawned over, she naturally couldn’t accept this, so she opposed Alana at every turn, especially her relationship with Cole.
After all, Alana was just a lowly girl with no parents to love her, even if she bullied her mercilessly, who would ever stand up for her?
But her brother actually stood up for her, he even slapped her for Alana’s sake. This only made her hate Alana even more.
After all, her brother, Cole, had always doted on her. He’d never even raised his
voice at her, let alone hit her.
Ever since Alana showed up, everything changed.
So it was all Alana’s fault!
If Alana hadn’t shown up, her relationship with her brother wouldn’t have gone sour!
Camila sneered, her tone becoming uncontrollably sharp and cutting.
“Lana, you’re such a disgusting leech. Even after my brother dumped you, you still have the nerve to show up in front of him and cling to him. How pathetic are you?”
Alana said nothing, but took the opportunity to wriggle free from Cole’s grip.
Seeing Alana coldly shake him off, Cole frowned, then turned to Camila and snapped.
“Cami, shut your mouth!”
Camila’s face turned pale with fright as she looked at Cole in disbelief. “Brother, you’re yelling at me again! You’re yelling at me over this woman again, I’m your little sister, you know!”
During the past few months, she felt that her relationship with her brother had returned to normal, and he doted on her just as he used to.
But now that Alana had reappeared, was her place in her brother’s heart about to be
taken away?
The more Camila thought about it, the angrier she became, and she took out all her frustration on Alana.
“Lana, why don’t you just get lost? Why do you keep showing up in front of my brother?! Get out! Get out of here right now!I don’t want to see you anymore!”
She suddenly lunged at Alana, trying to push her away.
Alana instinctively stepped back.
Cole quickly stepped in to stop Camila, grabbing her hand. “Enough! Stop this! I’ll take you home!”
Camila exclaimed, excitedly, “Brother, don’t stop me! Let me teach her a lesson! She’s nothing but a scheming hypocrite! Not only does she deliberately oppose me, but she also wants to steal you away from me. I won’t let her get away with it!”
Cole clenched his teeth and pulled her back forcefully.
He turned to look at Alana and spoke softly to calm her down, “Lana, I’ll take Cami home first. Don’t go yet. I’ll come back for you in a bit.”
With that, he grabbed Camila and walked away.
Camila was still hurling insults at Alana.
The vicious curses rang in Alana’s ears like a curse, leaving her unsettled.
Those long-buried memories seemed to come back to life, relentlessly attacking her.
Stephan got stuck in traffic for a while on the way.
So he arrived about ten minutes late.
He parked his car in front of Alana’s office. He had assumed Alana was still waiting for him at the office, and he was just about to call her to let her know he had arrived.
But before he could even take out his phone, his sharp eyes spotted a familiar, graceful figure standing not far from the company entrance.
Stephan paused for a moment, then broke into a smile.
It turned out she had already come downstairs to wait for him.
Without hesitation, he unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the car door, and walked
toward her.
He walked quickly toward the girl he liked, taking two steps at a time.
“My darling, I’m sorry I kept you waiting.”
No sooner had Stephan finished speaking than the girl, who had been standing not far away, suddenly rushed over, threw herself at him, and embraced him tightly.
She buried her face in his chest.
He looked down and saw her dark, tousled head.
It felt soft and cute.
His heart melted, and a faint smile touched his thin lips.
“Why are you being so affectionate all of a sudden?”
He was a bit flattered.
The girl in his arms clung to him tightly, as if she wanted to sink into his body. Her delicate, supple body trembled slightly.
