Chapter 156: Chapter 156 Taken aback

Alana was taken aback. Someone had ordered takeout for her?

Who could it be?

She instinctively glanced at her phone and realized that Stephan had sent her dinner. A warm feeling washed over her.

Working overtime was when a person was at their most exhausted. At a time like this, to have someone genuinely caring about her and thinking of her, how could that not be a form of happiness?

Alana smiled, took the takeout from the delivery person, and signed for it.

After the delivery person left, she couldn’t resist opening the takeout box; the food was still steaming.

The warmth seemed to soothe her heart. She curved her lips into a smile, picked up her phone, snapped a photo, and sent it to Stephan.

Alana:[Thank you for the takeout you sent me. I really like it.]

After a moment’s thought, she sent a cute “kiss” emoji.

On the other end.

Stephan received the message from Alana, and the corners of his mouth curled

upward involuntarily.

But when he tapped on the photo, the smile in his eyes vanished instantly.

This... didn’t look like the takeout he’d ordered for her, so who exactly ordered it for her?

A man, or a woman?!

Stephan’s eyes darkened. He could no longer sit still; he grabbed his coat and left. Alana was just about to dig into her takeout when suddenly, another delivery guy showed up at the door, saying someone had sent her dinner.

Alana froze. Someone else had sent her a meal?!

Who could this be?

When she asked the delivery guy, he didn’t know either; he just set down the dinner and left.

Alana opened the dinner box. It was clearly more substantial than the one she’d just opened, and it was filled with the exact dishes and flavors she usually loved.

It finally dawned on Alana: perhaps this meal was the one Stephan had sent her. So, the meal she had been about to eat just now...

Alana frowned, turned around, closed the first dinner box, and walked toward Cole’s office.

She placed the takeout box in front of his desk and asked bluntly, “Did you send this to me?”

Cole nodded in acknowledgment. “Do you like it?”

Alana shook her head. “I don’t like it. Don’t send me anything like this again.”

Cole frowned. “How could that be? Lana, I remember you used to love sour cabbage fish. I ordered these dishes based on your preferences, there’s no way you wouldn’t like them!”

Alana looked at him. “Who said I like sour cabbage fish?”

Cole stared at her. “Before, whenever we ate together, you always had it.”

Alana pressed her lips together. That was because he liked it, and he always wanted them to have the same thing so she had only eaten it out of affection for him.

But in reality, she didn’t really like things that were too sour.

She preferred sweet flavors over sour ones.

She spoke up, “That was back then. I don’t like it anymore.”

Cole felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest.

If she no longer liked the things she used to like, did that mean she no longer liked him

either?

“Lana...”

Alana interrupted softly, “I’ve finished verifying the data in the files. I’ll send them to you shortly. And this dinner, I’m giving it back to you. I hope you won’t take it upon yourself to do things like this again.”

With that, she turned and walked away.

Cold was about to get up to chase after her, but just then, his phone suddenly rang.

As he hesitated between chasing after her and answering the call, Alana had already walked out.

After a moment’s silence, he decided to answer the call.

On the other end of the line was his younger sister, Camila.

“Hello, brother, it’s so late, why aren’t you home yet?”

Cole paused for a moment before replying, “Cami, I had to work late at the office today, so I got held up a bit. Don’t worry, I’m heading home right now.”

Camila’s voice was sweet. “Okay, big brother. Come home soon. I’ll be waiting for

you!”

Alana returned to her computer and sent the verified documents to Cole. Then she began packing up her things, took the dinner Stephan had sent her, and left the office.

As she walked out of the office, she suddenly remembered she needed to send Stephan message once she finished working late.

Alana: [I’m done with overtime. If you’re busy or already home, you don’t have to come pick me up, I’ll just take a cab...]

She had just finished editing the second message but hadn’t sent it yet when a black Bentley screeched to a halt in front of her.

Alana looked through the window into the car.

The man inside had chiseled features and sharp lines, he was strikingly handsome. She couldn’t help but walk over, completely surprised and delighted.

“Why did you come?”

And he’d arrived just in time.

Stephan saw her hurrying over and instinctively glanced behind her, there were no other man.

But the moment he thought of the photo she’d just sent, he was still filled with a sense of danger.

There must be a man lurking nearby, secretly lusting after her!

Stephan opened the passenger door without a trace of emotion.

“Get in.”

Alana got in. She was still holding her handbag and the dinner he’d brought her.

But thinking about the photo she’d just sent him, she felt inexplicably guilty.

After all, that wasn’t the dinner he’d given her, she wondered if he’d noticed.

Stephan leaned over and thoughtfully fastened her seatbelt.

He asked casually, “Did you eat the dinner I brought you?”

As he drew closer, his strong scent carried a hint of intensity.

Alana bit her lip. “Not yet. But I’m going to eat it when I get home.”

Stephan’s dark eyes fixed on her, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Is it the one I sent?”

Alana lowered her head slightly. “Yes, it’s the one you sent.”

Stephan’s long, slender fingers gently cupped her chin, lifting her radiant, captivating face slightly.

“Then who sent the one you just forwarded to me, the one with pickled fish?”

Alana nervously curled her fingers.

He had found out after all.

She couldn’t help but explain, “That one was from Manager Cole. He asked me to work overtime tonight, maybe he wanted to make it up to me so he ordered takeout for me. I thought you’d sent it, so I took a picture and sent it to you. When I realized it wasn’t you, I returned that dinner to him. I promise, I didn’t take a single bite.”

“Is that so?”

Alana nodded, responding eagerly, “Yes, yes!”

Stephan chuckled and ruffled her hair. “Sweetheart, don’t be nervous. I was just checking to see if some other guy was secretly eyeing my girlfriend.”

After all, his girlfriend was so beautiful, and since she wasn’t by his side, he had no way of knowing if other men were eyeing her. So it was only natural that he felt a sense of unease.

Alana’s cheeks flushed slightly. “I... will keep myself only for you and won’t get involved with other men lightly.”

Those words struck a chord with him.

He curved his lips. “So obedient, huh?”

Alana blinked and replied earnestly, “Isn’t that only fair? I’ve asked you to keep yourself only for me and avoid contact with other women, so I can’t be hypocritical and get involved with other men behind your back.”

Stephan found this incredibly satisfying. Where else could he find such a conscientious girlfriend?

Well, the little darling right in front of him was definitely one!

“Good girl, give me a kiss.”

As if offering a reward, he leaned down and captured her soft lips.

Only after Alana was left breathless from the kiss did he finally let her go and drive

away.

But before leaving, his dark eyes swept over her company.

He thought to himself, “Why not find a way to lure her to my side and have her work under me?”

But the moment the thought crossed his mind, he dismissed it.

He couldn’t make decisions about her life based solely on his own selfish desires.

Whether she stays or goes should be her own decision.

The more Stephan thought about it, the more he found it amusing.

It seemed like... he was starting to care more and more about her thoughts and opinions.

At first, he had been quite domineering toward her.

Could it be...a sign that he was growing fonder of her?
