Chapter 148: Chapter 148 His own mother
What a scheming guy!
It was obvious he’d torn her clothes on purpose. Stephan raised an eyebrow and coaxed her, “Don’t be mad. I’ll buy you ten or a hundred outfits tomorrow, you can rotate through them.”
Alana shot him a playful glare. He certainly knew how to make a girl happy.
“I’m going to take a shower.”
She felt sticky and uncomfortable all over.
The man seized the opportunity to ask, “I’ll join you.”
Alana blushed. “No, I’ll wash by myself.”
If she really let him help her wash, she wasn’t sure she’d even get clean.
After a moment’s pause, she couldn’t help but remind him, pouting, “You’ve already asked for it twice this week. You have one more chance, if you ask again, you’ll have to wait until next week!”
Stephan chuckled. She sure kept good track of things.
“Alright, I get it.”
Only then did she rise from the man’s embrace, rubbing her aching lower back as she walked awkwardly toward the bathroom.
As she walked, she couldn’t help but wonder. Could that kind of thing really improve her skin and boost her vitality?
Why then did she feel so weak she could barely walk? Was this what it felt like to be full of vitality?!
Stephan watched the girl’s wobbly retreat with amusement. Only after she had entered the bathroom did he begin to clean up the mess.
He replaced the bed sheets and pillowcases with a fresh set.
As for the soiled ones, he took them downstairs to the bathroom to leave for the
housekeeper to pick up and wash tomorrow.
Just as he was about to head back, the doorbell suddenly rang. Stephan walked over and opened the door.
Standing outside the door was none other than Darla.
“Hello, good evening.”
Darla was wearing a very sheer white dress; the fabric was so thin that the light
from inside made it almost transparent, revealing her graceful, alluring figure through the fabric.
Her hair was damp and dripping with water; she had clearly just finished showering.
Stephan’s brow furrowed imperceptibly. “What’s up?”
Darla smiled. “Sorry, the showerhead in my bathroom broke. Could I borrow yours for a moment? I was just halfway through my shower. The water ran out, and I haven’t even finished washing my hair yet.”
Stephan’s tone was flat. “If the shower-head is broken, you can call someone to fix it. And it’s fucking late. Isn’t it a bit inappropriate to show up at a man’s house to borrow his bathroom?”
It was past 11 p.m.
Carla blinked. “You’re right. It’s indeed late. So calling a repairman now wouldn’t be very convenient, and besides, they’ve probably all gone home by now. I’m just borrowing the bathroom. I’ll leave right after.”
“Is that so?” A faint, ambiguous smile played at the corners of his mouth. “If it’s just borrowing a bathroom, why didn’t you ask someone else? Why come to me specifically?”
Darla smiled. “Around here, you’re the only one I know. If I don’t ask you, who else would I ask? Don’t worry, I’ll be gone as soon as I’m done. It won’t take long...”
She tried to step inside.
The next second, Stephan stretched an arm across her path, blocking her entry. His gaze was intense, radiating an air of intimidation.
“Miss Gordon, my girlfriend is here. It’s not convenient for you to come in.”
Darla smiled again.
Because she didn’t believe him.
Last time, wanting to refuse going for a walk with her, he lied and said he already had a girlfriend. Today, to turn her down and stop her from entering his home, he’d even gone so far as to lie again that he already had a girlfriend.
“Is that so? Then I’ll definitely stay and see what your girlfriend looks like.”
Stephan frowned, his patience completely gone.
“You’re being shameless.” He shot at her.
Couldn’t she just respect herself?
Darla snorted lightly. “If you won’t let me see your girlfriend, does that mean you don’t even have a girlfriend?”
“She’s taking a shower. It’s not convenient for her to see you.”
“Is that so? Then I’ll just wait until she’s done showering.”
Darla wouldn’t believe him unless she saw her with her own eyes.
Stephan shot her a cold glance. “Darla, I really didn’t expect you to be so shameless.”
He’d already rejected her so thoroughly, yet she was still clinging to him.
And the way she was clinging to him was downright repulsive.
Darla clenched her teeth. Seeing how unyielding the man was, she started to
lose her temper.
“Stephan, I just want to borrow the bathroom, is it really necessary to deceive me with an excuse about having a girlfriend?!”
“Last time, you said you had a woman you liked. Now, barely a week later, you’re telling me you have a girlfriend. Do you take me for a fool?”
His expression remained impassive. “Don’t flatter yourself. You’re not worth the effort of me lying to.”
Darla was momentarily speechless.
She had to admit, his tongue was as sharp as a knife.
Stephan continued, “Go back where you came from. I don’t have time to entertain you right now.”
After a pause, he seemed to think of something else.
“Oh, right. From now on, behave yourself around my mom. Don’t go spreading rumors.”
Darla frowned and couldn’t help but explain, “Stephan, do you have some kind of misunderstanding about me? When have I ever gossiped in front of your mom? I just wanted to get to know you better, that’s all!”
“You know in your heart whether there’s a misunderstanding or not.”
“I don’t!” Darla was about to explain, but the man had already closed the door on her face.
She clenched her teeth, thinking of the man who remained as unyielding as ever, and couldn’t help but feel annoyed.
She had thought that by dressing like this tonight and using the opportunity of taking a shower, she might be able to take things further with him. But it turned out just like this.
Two rejections in a row left her feeling a bit defeated.
Just then, her phone rang.
Darla picked up her phone and saw it was Cynthia calling. Clenching her teeth, she decisively pressed the answer button.
“Auntie...”
The moment the words left her mouth, her tone was filled with an indescribable sense of grievance.
But right now, Darla truly did feel wronged.
No man had ever rejected her so completely.
She had countless admirers at the hospital and was full of charm, so why did she keep hitting a wall with Stephan?
This was the first time she had ever taken the initiative to pursue a man like this.
Cynthia had just been about to ask Darla how things were going with her son when she heard the aggrieved tone in Darla’s voice and couldn’t help but grow concerned.
“Darla, what’s wrong?!”
Darla said, “Auntie, the showerhead in my bathroom just broke. I was halfway through my shower when the water stopped. I figured Stephan was nearby, so I came over to ask to use his bathroom. But instead of letting me use it, he just kicked me out for no reason. Now I’m left all alone, standing outside his door, soaking wet.”
As she spoke, her eyes welled up with tears of frustration.
As a young lady who had been doted on by her family her whole life, she had never experienced such humiliation before.
It was so heartbreaking!
Cynthia frowned. “That brat actually went that far?!”
Darla bit her lip, momentarily at a loss for words.
After all, just moments ago, she had assured Stephan that she wouldn’t gossip about him to his mother, and yet now...
But she wasn’t gossiping, she was just telling the truth.
“Auntie, it’s not his fault. Maybe I caught him off guard by showing up so suddenly. Besides, he said he has a girlfriend and it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to entertain me.”
Cynthia was stunned. “What? He has a girlfriend? How come I, his own mother, didn’t know?”
