Chapter 144: Chapter 144 My taste

“It’s taste just as good as my girlfriend herself but my girlfriend tastes better though.”

Alana blushed at the compliment. “It’s not that great. I know exactly what my cooking

skills are worth, I can’t compare to professional chefs.”

Stephan looked at her and said earnestly.

“But in my eyes, your cooking is better than any professional chef’s, it suits my taste perfectly.”

Alana blushed even more and said softly,

“Then eat a little more.”

Stephan curved his lips. “Alright, I’ll eat every last bit.”

With that, he downed the bowl of soup she’d served him in one gulp, quite impressive.

Alana thought to herself, He was really giving me face.

After finishing the soup, he began picking up more dishes to eat.

With every bite, he paid Alana a compliment, showering her with emotional validation. The compliments made her feel on cloud nine; if she had a tail, it would have been wagging all the way to the sky.

For instance, he told her that the salt-baked chicken wings were cooked to perfection, full of flavor, fragrant, and crispy. The sweet and sour spare ribs were sweet without being cloying, and the steamed sea bass was fresh and sweet.

His praise made her want to cook for him again and again. “I know how to make

lots of other dishes too. If you like this, I’ll cook something else for you next time!”

Stephan curved his lips. “Great. With a girlfriend who cooks so well, I’m in for a treat.”

Alana blushed again at the compliment.

It wasn’t really that impressive, but being praised by him made her feel incredibly happy and content.

Stephan seemed to think of something and looked up at her. “By the way, besides

cooking for me, have you ever cooked for anyone else?”

Like her ex-boyfriend, for example.

Surely, he hadn’t eaten the meals she’d cooked for him, had he?!

The thought that the man had also enjoyed such a treat made his heart churn with jealousy.

Alana didn’t catch the underlying meaning in the man’s words and instinctively nodded in agreement. “Yes.”

She had cooked for her grandmother in the countryside.

Children from poor families grow up fast; it was only natural for them to know how to cook, also learn basic survival skills on time.

Upon hearing this, Stephan felt a pang of jealousy. She must have cooked for her ex-boyfriend before.

Hmph!

“From now on, you’re only allowed to cook for me!”

“Huh?” Her eyes widened. “Why?”

Stephan stared at her with a deep, intense gaze and expressed his thoughts without hesitation.

“Because I’ll get jealous!”

Alana couldn’t help but blush.

Huh?

Was that really something worth him getting jealous over?

But putting herself in his shoes, if Stephan were to cook for a woman other than her, she’d feel uncomfortable too.

Of course, his family members were an exception.

So, Alana nodded. “Okay, I understand.”

Stephan curved his lips. “My girlfriend is such a good girl.”

Alana blushed even more and couldn’t bring herself to look at him.

After dinner, Stephan took the initiative to clear the table.

Alana stood up. “Let me do that. Your hand is injured; you shouldn’t get it wet.”

Stephan smiled and asked, “Who said I was going to touch the water?”

Alana was taken aback. “If you don’t touch the water, how are you going to wash them?”

“Put them in the dishwasher. Let the machine do the work, it’ll get them

cleaner than if I washed them by hand anyway.”

She didn’t have a dishwasher so she was quite astonished.

While the man was putting the dishes away in the kitchen, Alana took out the gift she’d prepared for him.

It was a reddish-brown box tied with a red bow, wrapped quite formally.

When her boyfriend came out, she held the gift box in both hands and handed it to him. “Here, this is for you.”

Stephan looked at the gift box suddenly handed to him and raised an eyebrow slightly.

“What’s this?”

Alana bit her lip, speaking with a touch of nervousness, “You gave me a necklace as a gift, so I... should give you something too.”

Stephan’s lips curved into a smile.

He hadn’t expected that after eating a meal cooked by his little white rabbit, he’d also receive a gift from her.

How thoughtful of her.

She was going to make him die of happiness at this rate.

He reached out, took it in his hand, but didn’t open it right away.

“Thank you.”

Alana’s fingers tightened slightly. “You...go ahead and open it. If you don’t like it, I can

still...”

Stephan interrupted in a calm voice, “No matter what you give me, I’ll love it.”

Alana’s beautiful eyes widened in surprise.

“How could that be? You clearly haven’t

even looked at it yet...”

Stephan gazed at her, a smile playing around his eyes, yet his expression remained earnest. “Because you gave it to me, I like it. Do you understand?”

Alana’s breath caught, and an inexplicable, warm sensation welled up inside her.

It was as if he were telling her that what he liked wasn’t the gift itself.

But rather the thoughtfulness behind her choosing it for him. It felt like he was openly favoring her, a feeling that was warm and comforting.

How had she never noticed this before? Sometimes, he really was this warm.

Her eyes welled up slightly. “Thank you.”

“What are you thanking me for?” Stephan found it amusing. “You’re the one who gave me a gift, I’m the one who

should be thanking you.”

Alana curved her lips and spoke to him honestly, “Thank you for not looking down on my gift. The necklace you gave me is so precious, but I can’t return the favor with something equally valuable. I was afraid you wouldn’t like it.”

Stephan smiled and gently tapped her forehead with his finger.

“Don’t think that way. Why don’t you consider that the gift you gave me is just like you, this gift is just as priceless as you are to me.”

“I...” Alana bit her lip; how could she dare to think that?

Priceless to him?

But it was just a tie?

And did she mean that much to him?

Seeing her still looking so conflicted, Stephan opened the gift box right in front of her. It was a red tie.

He looked at her, his surprise tinged with a hint of delight.

“How did you come up with the idea of giving me a red tie?”

Seeing his reaction, her cheeks flushed slightly. “I... didn’t know what to give you. I just thought I’d give you something practical, like a tie, since you wear them often.”

Stephan gazed at the girl’s flushed cheeks, a smirk playing on his lips as he felt the urge to tease her.

“There are plenty of practical things besides ties. Actually, I’d prefer... if you’d just wrap yourself up and give yourself to me.”

Her cheeks grew hotter the more she listened, and her ears turned completely red.

She hurriedly interrupted, “Okay, don’t push your luck.”

What did he mean, ‘wrap yourself up and give yourself to me’?

He really had a wild imagination!

Stephan gazed at the girl’s lovely, flushed face, his lips curving slightly as he said deliberately, “I really like the tie, it was a pleasant surprise and I’d forever cherish it. But I look forward to you giving me another gift next time.”

As for what kind of gift he wanted her to give him, that went without saying.

Alana was so flustered by his teasing that her whole body felt hot, and she couldn’t even speak.

Her beautiful eyes, filled with shy and timid reproach, glared at him.

She looked utterly irresistible.

Stephan’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he couldn’t resist pulling her into his arms.

“Tonight, you cooked for me and gave me a gift. So, don’t leave. Stay here and let me properly thank you, okay?”

The scheming man was at it again.

As for his promise to “take good care of her,”

Alana didn’t need to think twice, she knew exactly what he had in mind.

She replied shyly, “No thanks needed. I’m going to walk Luca’s pets now. You can entertain yourself!” With that, she tried to slip away.

Stephan quickly grabbed her wrist. “Wait, I’ll come with you.”

“No need, I can manage on my own.”

Alana blushed, gently wriggled her hand free from his grip, and fled the scene, as if she were afraid he’d chase after her and ask her to stay.

Stephan chuckled.

Since she didn’t want to stay with him, he’d just go stay at her place, it was all the same anyway.
