Chapter 105: Chapter 105 A new car
Alana arrived at her desk and was about to turn on her computer. Suddenly, her phone vibrated.
She picked it up and saw it was a message from Stephan.
Stephan:[Want me to pick you up after work?]
[I’ll take you for a walk with the cat and dog, and as a favor, let you stay at my place for the night.]
Alana’s face flushed crimson; it was as if the beast of a man’s abacus were popping one by one onto her cheeks.
She wasn’t that foolish, she knew full well it was a den of wolves, yet here she was, stupidly walking right into it.
Alana: [No, thanks. I can manage on my own.]
Stephan received the message, raised an eyebrow, and didn’t press the issue.
After all, he had a social engagement that evening.
However, his desire to lure her to his home and have her lie in his bed was intense.
He wondered when he’d finally be able to get his hands on her in the open?
He really couldn’t wait.
*********
It was closing time in the evening.
Alana walked out of the office with her colleagues.
Not seeing Stephan’s car parked near the office, she breathed a slight sigh of relief.
She said goodbye to her colleagues and was about to hail a ride on her phone.
“Lana!”
Alana turned her head and saw her best friend, Eve, pulling up in a red sports car. Surprised, she walked over and asked, “Eve, what are you doing here?”
Eve was wearing a fiery red halter dress that perfectly matched her red sports car.
She rested her slender arm on the car window. “Oh my, you hurt your knee. I was worried about you, so I came over to check on you in person. Get in the car. I’ll take you to Luca’s place in a bit.”
“Okay.” Alana opened the door and slid into the passenger seat.
She unbuckled her seatbelt, fastened it, and took a moment to admire the sports car. Although she didn’t know much about luxury cars, this one was top-of-the-line, and the price was certainly no joke.
“Did you get a new car again?”
Eve said, “It’s my boyfriend’s. He didn’t want it anymore, so he gave it to me.”
Alana let out an “Oh.”
Eve’s boyfriend was very rich and loved spoiling her. But he was a very busy businessman so Alana had only met him a few times.
But she heard from Eve that he always made time for her so that was good.
She was very happy for her friend.
Eve suddenly leaned in and asked with concern, “What about your knee injury? Let me take a look.”
Hearing this, Alana lifted her skirt, revealing the injured area on her knee.
It had already scabbed over.
Eve looked at it with a pang of sympathy and quickly pulled out a tube of ointment
she’d prepared, pressing it into Alana’s hand.
“This is a scar-removing ointment I bought for you, it works wonders on scars.”
“Once the scab falls off, remember to apply it three times a day. That way, you won’t have a scar. Otherwise, it would be such a shame to have a scar on such beautiful legs!”
A warm wave washed over Alana; it felt wonderful to be cared for by a friend.
She smiled gratefully. “Thank you, Eve. How much did this ointment cost? I’ll transfer the
money to you.”
Eve waved her hand. “It’s not much, just a few dollars. Don’t transfer me any money;
just treat me to a meal later.”
Alana agreed without hesitation, “Sure, whatever you want to eat, it’s on me.”
“How about wonton soup? That old wonton noodle shop we went to last time, the owner is really nice, and her wontons are delicious and fragrant. She gives you such generous portions, and I’d love to go back there again.”
“Sure.”
The two drove to the wonton noodle shop. After finishing their meal, they drove to Luca’s house.
Alana refilled the pet food and water bowls for the two pets.
Eve then took Alana on a tour of Luca’s house.
“Lana, aren’t you really going to consider Luca? After all, you’re single right now and don’t have anyone you’re seeing. It wouldn’t hurt to give him a chance. Look, this is his place. He lives here all by himself.”
“If you were his girlfriend, you could live here too. You wouldn’t have to work so hard every day, you could just let him take care of you. Plus, you’d have two little cat and dog to keep you company. Life would be so pleasant.”
Alana spoke hesitantly, “Eve, I... I’m not used to relying on a man to support me.”
She was used to earning her own money and supporting herself.
It had been that way her whole life.
She couldn’t even rely on her own parents, let alone a boyfriend.
Her boyfriend was a complete stranger to her, why should she have to depend on him for support?
What if she became dependent on him and couldn’t break free later?
Eve chuckled. “Hey, you’re just too rigid and old-fashioned, you’re wasting that
beautiful face of yours! Unlike me, I found a rich boyfriend. I spend his money, eat his food, live in his place. Clothes, bags, jewelry, even a car, it’s all paid for with his money.”
“Even if we break up someday, I’ll still walk away with a huge sum, I’ll never have to worry about a thing in life!”
Eve was the classic type who only looked at money, not the person. As long as her boyfriend has money to give her, that’s all that matters.
If he goes broke, she’ll dump him, the next one will be even more compliant.
Alana, on the other hand, was the exact opposite.
She valued love, not money.
Perhaps it was true that the more we lack something, the more we crave it.
In fact, she wanted far more than the average person.
Alana felt that no one could give her what she wanted.
Since she couldn’t have it, she figured it would be just fine to spend her whole life alone.
At least living alone meant she could be free of desires and expectations. But there was one person who barged into her life like a bandit.
With her gentle, meek, and passive nature, she simply couldn’t refuse him.
After all, it wasn’t something she could simply refuse if she wanted to.
Just thinking about it gives her a headache.
The kind of headache that comes from being completely helpless.
Eve blinked and said earnestly to Lana, “If you’re not interested in that guy, I’ll have
a word with him and make him give up, okay? That way he’ll stop coming over every day to bother me, asking all sorts of questions.”
Alana nodded. “Go ahead.”
After all, Luca had never made it clear that he was interested in her.
She also felt awkward about rejecting him to his face.
What if he misunderstood and thought she was just overthinking things?
Eve nodded. “Alright. Let’s put Luca’s matter aside for now.”
She paused for a moment, then studied Alana closely. “But what about that man last night?”
Alana’s eyelid twitched.
She feigned ignorance. “What man?”
