Chapter 149: CH. 149 | A Search in Vain
"Clone... Technique?"
"Yes," Lin Tian said. "Do you know anything about it?"
Xu Mei fell silent for a moment, her eyes drifting upward as if trying to recall something. However, she couldn’t remember a single piece of information about the technique.
She had heard of it before, but it was incredibly difficult to come across. Since the technique could create a clone, Xu Mei was certain its grade was anything but ordinary.
It wasn’t something a cultivator like her could possibly learn.
"I’ve heard of that technique before, but I don’t know where it can be found," Xu Mei replied.
"Please forgive me, Senior Daoist."
Lin Tian grunted softly. The Clone Technique in the Zhu Clan was a Heaven-grade technique. If other Clone Techniques existed, there was a good chance they were of the same grade.
It was only natural that Xu Mei knew very little since her cultivation wasn’t high enough. Simply put, the Xu Clan hadn’t told her because it was still too early.
But he also didn’t know whether the Xu Clan possessed such a technique. Even if they did, the outcome would be the same as before. They wouldn’t hand such a technique over to Lin Tian so easily.
If what she said is true, then this trip to the city was pointless.
But at least I discovered something unexpected. That black skull aura... it felt strange.
"It’s fine. It’s only natural that you don’t know anything about that technique," Lin Tian replied.
"I’m leaving the city. You can use the Foreign Aura Extraction Technique to deal with the black skull aura," he added.
"But I still need to replace the Qilin Sword Technique that—"
Lin Tian finished his tea and rose to his feet. He had no time for conversations or anything else unrelated to his objective.
"No need," Lin Tian interrupted.
He stepped forward in a flash of white qi, leaving the restaurant behind and disappearing into the crowd. Xu Mei remained inside for a moment before walking out of the restaurant.
She turned her head, scanning the people along the city streets. Flying on her qi sword, she searched for the man in the black robe, but he was nowhere to be found.
He had given her the extraction technique, helped her solve the city’s problem, and even spared the lives of the two Xu Clan members who had gone too far.
Without realizing it, curiosity about the man’s identity had begun to grow in her heart. Unfortunately, she had never gotten the chance to ask his name.
She could only hope that one day she would meet him again and have the opportunity to know him better.
His attitude and personality... intrigued Xu Mei.
Meanwhile, Lin Tian had already left Xu City. At the western gate, he could still see long lines of cultivators and mortals waiting to enter the city.
Through his Aura Eyes, he could also see the black aura surrounding the mortals’ bodies. The vast majority of them were afflicted by it.
But he had no time to concern himself with that.
He needed to travel to another city and continue searching for the technique, even if the effort ultimately proved futile.
After passing through the city gate, Lin Tian flew swiftly away from Xu City toward the next destination. If possible, he intended to visit every major city and ask whether anyone possessed a Clone Technique.
If that failed, his only option would be to return to the Lingxian Sect and find another solution.
***
Eight days passed, and he visited many cities, beginning with Zhu City and ending with Wang City. In total, he had traveled through all eleven major cities of the Qin Kingdom, including the capital, Qinzhao.
Among all those cities, only the Zhu Clan in Zhu City possessed the Clone Technique.
His search had not been entirely in vain. During those eight days, Lin Tian witnessed many things, from worsening local economies and rising crime to fierce rivalry between the clans within each city.
He saw it all, yet he never involved himself in any of it.
His only goal was to find the technique, and that alone was enough.
He walked confidently out of Wang City’s northern gate, looking across the scorching, barren desert stretching before him.
Very few people came to Wang City, making it one of the quietest among the Qin Kingdom’s eleven major cities.
There wasn’t a trace of the technique in Wang City. It was even less likely that the smaller cities would possess it.
I don’t have enough time to search every small city. I’d better return to the sect.
Lin Tian accelerated and flew away from Wang City, heading south toward the Lingxian Sect.
Since the sect was located far from the city, it would take him at least five hours to arrive with the flying speed of a Nascent Soul cultivator.
From time to time, he glanced below, watching sects, villages, and small towns pass beneath him.
No cultivators dared disturb him because Lin Tian traveled while releasing the powerful qi aura from his body. Its steady pressure alone was enough to intimidate any cultivator who sensed it.
The journey felt brief because he focused solely on flying without interruption.
After five hours of travel, he finally saw Wind Dragon Peak in the Lingxi Mountain Range, where the Lingxian Sect was located.
He continued flying through the sky, cutting through the clouds until he reached the area surrounding the sect.
However, he suddenly stopped after sensing the aura of unfamiliar cultivators cultivating outside the sect grounds.
He narrowed his eyes and looked toward them.
The distinctive red robes of a certain clan looked familiar.
The Zhu Clan...?
Lin Tian descended and landed on the ground, coming face-to-face with two young female elders. As soon as they sensed a stronger qi aura, they immediately opened their eyes and looked toward him.
"Sect Master Lin Tian?"
"What are you two doing here?" Lin Tian asked.
"We apologize for disturbing you. Clan Head Zhu wishes to meet with you. We came here earlier, but Master Ying informed us that you hadn’t returned yet," one of them replied.
Could it be... Zhu Wei has reconsidered my proposal?
"What does he want?"
"Clan Head Zhu Wei wishes to continue discussing the agreement between the two of you. If you don’t mind, we’ll invite Clan Head Zhu to—"
"No," Lin Tian said, cutting her off.
"Your Clan Head has already come all the way here. It wouldn’t be appropriate to ask him to make another trip."
"You two should head back first. Tell Clan Head Zhu Wei that I’ll visit tomorrow with an elder of the Lingxian Sect," Lin Tian said.
Bright smiles spread across their faces. They lowered their heads once more and cupped their hands respectfully.
"Thank you for your generosity, Sect Master Lin Tian."
"We’ll return immediately and deliver this good news to Clan Head Zhu Wei."
