Chapter 120: CH. 120 | The Oath of Immortality
In truth, Lin Tian could have crushed the man without effort using his Nascent Soul strength. But the situation didn’t call for it.
An Yue was right beside him, and he had no intention of letting a fight ruin her happy day.
In the end, he had no choice but to let the man keep trailing them. Either way, the man was in for a shock once he found out they were part of the Lingxian Sect.
That night, the two of them kept flying through the sky. From a distance, An Yue narrowed her eyes and caught sight of the Lingxian Sect.
Something was different.
Bright lanterns lit up every corner of the sect, decorations welcoming their return, and a long wooden table had been carefully set with food and an inviting spread of snacks.
In the sect’s front courtyard, she could see An Xiao and the others already gathered and ready. An Xiao spotted An Yue arriving and greeted her warmly, full of joy.
"Welcome back, Yue’er."
"Happy birthday," An Xiao said.
The other disciples started lighting firecrackers, which shot into the sky and burst into striking bursts of flame that caught everyone’s eyes.
An Yue couldn’t hide her happiness. She smiled wide, eyes turned upward, watching the sky above the sect fill with fireworks.
From elsewhere, Cao Ying watched the celebration and decided to add to the fun.

She reached her hand forward, shaping her spiritual qi into a dragon and letting it drift freely through the air, twisting and curling as if joining in the celebration of An Yue’s birthday.
Lin Tian stopped flying just before entering the sect. He turned around and looked at the purple-robed cultivator who had been tailing them.
The man panicked and quickly flew off, putting as much distance as he could between himself and the sect.
Now he knew exactly who the man in the black robe was, and his face went even paler at the realization.
He figured he needed to report the man’s true identity to Elder Ling right away.
"Master Lin?" An Yue called.
Lin Tian turned forward, a smile spreading across his face. He descended and joined the celebration.
Everything had been prepared to make the Lingxian Sect shine brighter than it ever did on an ordinary day. The disciples celebrated with joy and wished An Yue well, delighted to be part of it.
"Thank you for your kind words and wishes," An Yue said, tears of gratitude welling up.
Lin Tian walked over and gave An Yue’s shoulder a gentle pat. "Happy birthday, Yue’er."
An Yue glanced over, her eyes lingering on Lin Tian with fond admiration, the corners of her lips curving into a bright, joyful smile. "Thank you, Master Lin."
The celebration continued with dinner together. Su Hua and the sect’s kitchen team had worked hard to prepare a spread of delicious dishes for them. Lin Tian joined in and called for Cao Ying to come as well.
"I never expected... to see a cultivator celebrate a birthday again," Cao Ying remarked.
"It’s just a simple celebration. Sit down and enjoy the moment," Lin Tian said.
They gathered around the long wooden table, each taking their seats. Once everyone had settled, Lin Tian stood up, and all eyes turned to him.
"A birthday celebration is something special before someone reaches the status of a true cultivator. An Yue has reached Foundation Establishment and become a true cultivator. This means a great deal for her."
"Every wish and hope we send out tonight will be heard by the heavens. May this celebration help An Yue become a remarkable cultivator in the years ahead."
"Please. Enjoy the celebration," Lin Tian said.
The disciples began eating the food laid out before them, including An Yue, who had been hungry since their time in Hao City.
They ate while chatting with one another, and every so often someone asked about An Yue’s hopes for the future. When the question came up, An Yue glanced briefly toward Lin Tian.
She couldn’t possibly tell them that her greatest wish was to spend her life beside Lin Tian.
That would only upset many of the disciples, since she knew how many of them admired him.
"I want to become a powerful cultivator and help the Lingxian Sect grow into a great sect in the future," An Yue said.
"That’s a hope we all share, of course," Ya Fei said.
"I hope you can achieve that dream someday, Senior Sister An Yue," Luo Mei said.
"I’m so happy seeing how far you’ve come, Senior Sister An Yue," Yun Yun added.
"Senior Sister An Yue! I love you," Ji Xue said warmly.

Lin Tian listened to their wishes and congratulations, but his attention kept drifting toward Cao Ying, who had been talking with him throughout the evening about various matters concerning the sect and An Yue.
Before they knew it, the celebration came to an end and the food on the table was gone. At first they had planned to play a fun game together, but with everyone so full, they decided against it.
Still, An Yue said that night had been the best night of her life. She felt grateful and happy to have met all of them.
As the night grew later, the disciples returned one by one to their dorms to rest. Cao Ying had already gone back to her rocky hill. Ya Fei and the others had returned to their dorms as well.
Only Lin Tian and An Yue remained in the front courtyard.
Lin Tian raised his hand, summoning a glow of white qi to clear away the tables while letting the lanterns stay lit through the night.
"Tonight was special. I don’t want to spend it sleeping," An Yue said, sitting on the steps leading up to the main sect hall.
Lin Tian listened, then said, "Same here."
"You know, I always used to be afraid the Lingxian Sect would be left behind. I always feared I’d be left behind too."
"But everything changed when you came. I’m always grateful for the day you came out of your closed cultivation, Master Lin."
"It’s just the two of us. You can just call me Lin Tian," he said.
"But Master Lin is—"
"I... don’t mind if you call me that," Lin Tian cut in.
He sat down beside An Yue, his head tilted up, eyes taking in the clear night sky free of clouds, watching the scatter of stars and the faint glow of distant galaxies.
A soft smile spread across An Yue’s face, the blush on her cheeks becoming the most beautiful color shining on her.
Working up her courage, she shifted closer to Lin Tian and rested her head against him, looking up at the brightest star she knew, the one sitting right beside her.
"Can I become a great cultivator, Lin Tian?" An Yue asked.
"Can I have a long life too?"
"Doesn’t the path of cultivation toward immortality mean walking it alone?"
"Is being alone... worth it, when weighed against immortality?"
"If being immortal means being alone, isn’t that the same as being dead inside, without feeling?"
Lin Tian went quiet for a moment, taking in these unusual questions from someone still at Foundation Establishment like An Yue.
To him, these were the kinds of questions someone who had reached Soul Formation would ask.
"Being alone can mean something else. The path to immortality isn’t short, and it isn’t rigid either."
"There are many ways to immortality, and none of them require walking alone."
"But... immortality means nothing if there’s no one worth fighting for."
An Yue couldn’t find any words. Her heart pounded hard at what Lin Tian had just said. Her gaze stayed fixed on his eyes, unable to look away.

He turned and noticed An Yue had been looking at him this whole time. Now their eyes met, caught in a strange feeling, one that was both unsettling and deeply calming.
"Yue’er?"
"Yes, Lin Tian?" An Yue asked, growing even more nervous at the softness in his voice.
"If one day you want to chase immortality..."
"I’ll be right there with you."
An Yue’s heart felt like it had stopped beating in that moment of shock. Her eyes went wide, glistening with emotion, her lips trembling, her words caught in her throat.
Without realizing it, her hands gripped the edge of her robe so tightly her fingers turned pale.
A single tear slipped slowly down her cheek. Lin Tian softened, reaching out gently to wipe it away.
Now Lin Tian saw that smile again, sweet and warm, full of meaning.
"Then..."
"Never walk too fast."
"Because I want to keep up with you."
