Chapter 463: Revelations and Resolutions
Evan looked away to not meet Arthur’s gaze, inadvertently glancing at Artemisia and Beatrix who were holding a tablet and discussing something while scrolling through it.
Thinking about the fact that they were both goddesses from a different planet, he wondered why they were here on Aramis, within a Demon Race Stronghold.
Perhaps sensing those thoughts, Arthur who had just formed a new conjecture on what the reduction of his Parallel Paths could mean spoke.
"Oh, they’re from Aidos. It’s a different Prime World like Gozon.
Technically they have nothing to do with Aramis, but they’re here because Beatrix is crazy enough to fall for a Demon and chase him across planets and Artemisia is unfortunately her caretaker."
"Arthur, what the fuck?!"
"What? It’s the truth."
Beatrix had complaints about Arthur’s description of her, but Artemisia spoke up, agreeing with him and shutting Beatrix up.
As for Evan, the boy was slightly surprised to hear this, but for reasons different from what anyone might imagine.
’This...it’s the same scenario she told me she met the Progenitor godslayer in. So this is the time period where it happened.
Seeing as Arthur is just 17, it makes sense why she said the godslayer race was young.’
While he was pondering things from the future, Arthur continued speaking.
"Both of them are stuck here because I’m ’studying’ them. They have nothing to do with the war, but they do occasionally join in the fights since while they aren’t enemies with Aramis, they aren’t exactly allies either."
When Arthur was done, Evan pointed at him and asked his biggest curiosity.
"Where do you come in?"
"Me? I’m just the guy from another Universe who fell on this side of the planet. Some things the Aramisians did disgusted me so I sided with the Demons."
His reason for joining this war seemed very...causal. It nearly threw Evan for a loop as he expected something greater.
"They did things that disgusted you?"
"Yes.
As you may have seen from my status when you appraised me some time ago, I am the Progenitor of a godslayer race.
Do you know what ’slayer races’ are?"
"Yeah."
"Good. The Aramisians did some pretty nasty experiments.
They kidnapped babies from their mothers, killed their brains, extracted their Divine Factors and split it across other people to create ’Fake Divines’."
He explained the one action of the Aramisians that personally disgusted him the most and Evan’s reaction was very similar to his.
"What the actual fuck?! That’s messed up!
Also, what do you mean by ’Fake Divines’?"
"Hmm, how do I explain this?
Let’s use you as an example. You’re a ’Draconic High-Human’, aren’t you?"
When Arthur said that, Evan raised a brow in surprise, curious about how Arthur knew that his human side was ’High Human’. He asked Arthur this and the Progenitor kindly explained.
"Progenitors 101. A single glance is all we need to know whatever Race and Breed you are. If we know of that Race beforehand, we can identify you in a second."
When Arthur said that, Artemisia flinched lightly and this didn’t go unnoticed by Evan and Beatrix. While Beatrix was asking her what was wrong, Arthur continued speaking, casually dropping a bombshell that attracted the attention of everyone present.
"Like now, I know your body is that of a Draconic Human, but your soul is something else. This isn’t your real body, is it?"
"Wait, what?"
Beatrix was the one who reacted first to this, and Evan just remained silent, barely concealing his surprise at Arthur’s statement.
’He figured it out with a glance...
Maybe, he knows what my ’Soul Race’ is!!’
Just as Evan was thinking that, Artemisia took the chance to speak up and distract Beatrix from her earlier reaction.
"Indeed, I was curious about that as well."
"Huh? You know that’s not his real body?"
Beatrix successfully bought the bait and questioned Artemisia about this, with the goddess nodding in affirmation as she spoke about how she knew.
"My abilities are related to the law of Evolution. I can tell that the ’Evolution’ of his body and soul don’t match up.
I scanned him when he was unconscious and I noticed the discrepancy. It’s like his soul has evolved more than his body...as if it’s older by a few years."
Arthur nodded to confirm her words, something he had also noticed when he used his Pseudo-Authority on Evan earlier.
His Soul’s Age and his Body’s Age didn’t match up.
As for McEnda, the man stood up and leaned towards Evan, narrowing his eyes for a few seconds before shaking his head and speaking.
"My senses perceive him just the same as any other Dragonkin to me. I wouldn’t even know his human side was a High Breed if you didn’t mention it."
He sat back down on the couch beside Sigesi and let his head fall into her lap while Evan just sighed defeatedly and spoke.
"I’m sighing a lot today.
Anyway, yeah. You guys already figured it out so I’m just gonna say it. My soul is indeed something else, but I don’t know what it is."
Looking towards Arthur who had just claimed to be able to tell anyone’s race with a glance, he asked.
"Can you tell what it is with your powers?"
Arthur could see eagerness and anticipation in his eyes when he asked this. For a moment, his mischievous side was tempted to mess with Evan but that’d extend this conversation longer than it should so he decided against doing so.
"Yes, I can. It’s pretty obvious. You’re actually a o̶̧̦̠͇̼̙͍̦̅́̈́̆̄̑̒̑͛͛̄͑̚͘̚g̷̢̲̭̋͊̉̓͘-"
There was a censoring sound accompanying Arthur’s words so he stopped the moment he noticed it. He then looked towards Evan and his lips curled up.
"This is interesting...
Someone’s hiding what you really are from you. Whoever did so is quite strong and has a higher Universal Influence than mine.
Because of this, the Law of Causality gives their ’intention to hide it’ precedence over my ’intention to reveal it to you’. As such, even if I tried to tell you, it’d be censored..."
"Tsk...!"
Evan very audibly clicked his tongue and Arthur didn’t need to see his full face to know just how irritated he was right now.
"But you know what race it is, right?"
"Yes. There’s no way I of all people wouldn’t."
For some reason, Evan felt something off about Arthur’s reply, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Seeing his confusion, Arthur sighed and shook his head as Evan had failed to get the big hint he just dropped.
"Too bad.
Anyway, we were discussing about Fake Divines.
A Human with ’Divine’ factors that enable them to use Divinity is a Divine Human, just like you’re a Human with ’Dragon’ factors that allow you to use Draconic powers.
The Aramisians are making Fake Divine Humans, Elves and the like by stealing the Divine factors in natural born Divines and putting them into normal Humans to give them Divine powers."
Arthur casually went back to his earlier explanation, and Artemisia chimed in after he spoke to shed further light on it.
"They’re not evolving to become Divine Humans like you did from Human to Draconic Human."
At this point, Evan was not surprised that Artemisia had guessed he was originally Human and just silently allowed Arthur to continue speaking.
"That shit disgusted me so I decided to side with the Demons even though they’re the Invaders here.
Besides, being in this war means more fights. More fights mean more opportunities for me to refine my techniques, create new ones, and take advantage of this Universe’s System to Level up and grow stronger faster.
I have a goal of reaching Inferior Sovereign before I leave this planet in the next 7 months."
Evan looked at Arthur like he was crazy when he said he wanted to go from Intermediate Legendary to Inferior Sovereign in just 7 months.
However, Arthur didn’t mind Evan’s gaze, completely understanding his words sounded crazy to most people who weren’t as ridiculous as he was.
At this point, Arthur had accepted the fact that he was worthy of the ’Irregular’ title on his status because he was indeed an Irregular case as far as Existence Realms was concerned.
He was born a Master and spent 13 years as one before finally becoming a Grandmaster. He then remained in that realm till he was 16.
Yet in the span of his 16th and 17th birthdays, he went all the way from Superior Grandmaster to Intermediate Legendary.
By Valmone Universe Standards, he went from Level 499 to Level 768 in such a short time.
Hearing this, Evan was even more dumbfounded.
"And yet people call me Irregular for becoming an Epic within 4 years..."
"Within four years?"
"Yeah. I think I was Level 20 or so four years ago."
As Evan was trying to remember exactly what level he was four years ago, all the others in the room besides Arthur were giving him the same look he gave Arthur.
McEnda turned to ward Alvey who was putting on his jacket in preparation to leave and spoke.
"Yeah, he’s indeed a ’Less Ridiculous’ version of Arthur."
Evan sure was for going from the Bronze Realm to the Inferior Stage of the Epic Realm in such a short amount of time!
This was even more of a Reason for Alvey not to let Evan fall into the hands of the Aramisians.
"I’m heading to Zefesh for a bit. I need to get some confidential files from Sylvan and Barron."
Alvey stated his intention to McEnda and the man got up before saying he’d come with him since he wanted to go to Rhigor.
"You’re heading back to Gozon?"
"Nahh. There’s something I forgot on the Lunar Outpost last time so I want to pick it up."
The Archdemon got to his feet and tidied up his clothes, while Alvey told Evan to follow him and they left the office.
Arthur tagged along, slinging an arm over Evan’s shoulder as he spoke.
"You’re pretty ’Irregular’ too, aren’t you? Guess we’re similar in that aspect.
How ’bout we ’Irregulars’ stick together until your time in this ’Past’ expires? Either that or it’s time for me to go back to Hell, whichever comes first."
"Where’s the part where you’re supposed to listen to my opinion?"
"You left that part in the future you came from."
"So, I don’t exactly have a choice in this..."
"Hahaha, of course, you don’t have one."
Arthur’s nonchalant responses seemed to irk Evan, evident by the twitch of his brow. This reaction only fuelled Arthur’s amusement, causing the Progenitor to chuckle even louder.
Having sensed Alvey leave his office, many Demon Generals who had things to consult him with came up to him to speak with him and the sight of the numerous Transcendents left Evan utterly astonished.
’Alvey’s already this powerful even in this time period, huh?’
Such a thought crossed his mind while looking at Alvey dish out order after order with High-Rank Demons obeying immediately.
As for Alvey, the man was wondering just how this group of theirs seemed to get bigger and bigger as time went by.
It was just him and McEnda originally, and then Arthur came along, then Artemisia and Beatrix. Now Evan had literally been blasted from the future and had fallen right near them.
’I need to have someone proficient in the law of fate check us up. Something is obviously wrong somewhere.
Maybe it relates to that Parallel Path thing Arthur was talking about...maybe something big is coming.
Something that’d affect all of us...’
Such thoughts crossed his mind as he had a High-Rank Demon show Evan to private quarters where the boy was to stay, and he assigned a few Shadow Demons to watch him at all times as well just in case anything strange happened.
