Chapter 437: 17

Umbral Chateau

Torten

December 31st

530th Divine Year

"Dude...what the fuck?!"

Such was Arthur’s exclamation as he stood in the middle of a courtyard, drenched in water from head to toe.

Not too far from him was a certain blue-eyed High Ranked Demon laughing his ass off at Arthur’s current appearance.

Beside him was a very young-looking woman with ice-blue hair tied up in a side ponytail, donning the Demon Army Uniform.

She had her palm on her face and was shaking her head as she gazed at the other demon laughing on the floor like a madman.

Said demon was the reason for Arthur’s current drenched state, and she could not comprehend how he found it funny to drench someone with water first thing in the morning.

Normally, Arthur would have been able to dodge a bucket of water from being poured on his head, but unfortunately, the person pouring it was a Peak Transcendent.

It was very easy for him to hold Arthur in place with the power of his Pseudo-Authority of Darkness and empty the bucket on his head faster than he could fully react.

"Here."

The ice-blue-haired woman—Demon General Sigesi Valren—used magic to dry Arthur’s uniform before giving him an ice-constructed bucket of cold water

She then dashed to where the culprit of Arthur’s earlier drenched state—McEnda III— was standing and wrapped her arms around the man’s waist.

"Huh? Sigesi?!"

She didn’t answer him and instead used ice to freeze his entire lower body, while Arthur flashed in and emptied the contents on the man’s head.

Unfortunately, there was no way that one Intermediate Legendary and an Inferior Sovereign could best a Transcendent so easily.

By the time the water had left the bucket, the man was already at the other end of the courtyard.

"Tsk..."

Arthur clicked his tongue as he used time magic to stop the contents of the bucket from spilling on Sigesi, before landing on his feet and glaring at McEnda III.

"So? What weed did you smoke this morning?"

He posed a question that even Gozonian Demon Lords didn’t dare to ask someone like McEnda III, even as a joke. In reply, McEnda III simply dipped a hand into his shadow and pulled out a calendar.

"It’s the last day of the year."

"Does that have anything to do with your sudden bout of madness?"

Sigesi questioned him with a raised brow and seeing that they didn’t understand him, McEnda III sighed in disappointment.

"It’s Arthur’s birthday."

"..."

"...oh, that."

Arthur’s reaction was clearly not the kind McEnda III was expecting. From the way the boy acted, it was as if he had even forgotten it was his birthday!

"I’ve been so busy recently so it skipped my mind."

"You actually forgot?!"

The Archdemon was dumbfounded when he heard this and Arthur only shrugged his shoulders. After reuniting with Rachel, the boy spent the next twelve days getting used to his new power, going on a Mercenary mission and then returning to Torten where he spent the rest of the time comprehending laws in McEnda’s house.

His target law was not one of his main ones, but the law of Fate as he had felt some very strange things when he was in Zefesh that left him curious.

So, he decided to dabble in the law that he had tossed aside for later and he was able to get a clearer picture when he combined it with his Time Pseudo-Authority.

It was when he was doing this that McEnda had called him and told him to come over, which then led to him being drenched in water the instant he stepped into the courtyard.

He had completely forgotten about the thing called a birthday and would have gone the day without remembering if McEnda had not reminded him.

’Besides, my age calculation is already messed up since I spent 3 months in Lucifer’s Domain.

Going by that, I had turned 17 long ago.’

His status board had been showing ’16?’ in the age tab, and he believed that question mark was because it had detected the extra 3 months.

Pulling it up now, he saw that the question mark had disappeared.

The only thing that still had question marks on his status was ’Extreme Nothingness’ and considering that was a direct application of his Annihilation: Null, he wasn’t surprised the System was still confused.

Everything else that had question marks or ’Computing...’ now lacked those extra tags.

He saw some new skills he hadn’t even realised were there but after seeing their descriptions, he guessed where they came from.

Dive (T) was from when he went for a swim in the Umhiz Ocean before the Triton Ark attack.

Arcane Blessing was a result of him creating the Blessings of: ’Anti-Divinity, Divinity and the last one he was still working on, ’Destruction’.

Delay Attack was him applying his time law energy to slow down his opponent’s movements, causing them to be sluggish.

He did this a lot, but it had not become a skill until he added an extra edge to it. Using his Pseudo-Authority, he stored up the delayed time and released it in a powerful burst that amplified the speed and power behind his strikes.

Temporal Slash was what he had used to kill that Divine Human who used the powers of the law of Reflection on Triton Ark, halting the progression of his attack mid-way. The sudden pause caught her off guard and she overcommitted to her counterattack.

Arthur then accelerated the motion and it bypassed her guard, dividing her body in two.

Temporal Thrust was simply the Thrust variant of the Temporal Slash Attack.

’If I use Chronoslash, it’d show, right?’

He had that thought as he scanned the rest of the status board, noticing that he had now been assigned a combat class.

’Chrono Destructor’

It gave him bonuses to his damage and energy manipulation speed with Time and Destruction energies.

’I wonder if they stick even after I leave this Universe.’

That was something he wished was the case but considering he had never heard about Systems being Inter-Universal, he didn’t have much hope.

Lastly, his stats were as high as ever. He had X2 health and energy stats, even higher than Sigesi who had recently become a Sovereign.

His Strength and Durability stats were that of a Superior Legendary and it was his Agility and Intelligence which were on the Level of Intermediate Legendries.

Though he was good at it, Arthur didn’t use magic much so he didn’t care too much about the Intelligence stat.

As for Agility, he could always accelerate to the speed of a Sovereign with his time magic so he wasn’t also bothered that it was on the level of an Intermediate Legendary.

Of course, his thoughts would have made any other Legendary attack him with anger.

Arthur noticed a new title on his status but he didn’t pay it any attention, seeing it as something that was expected considering his actions on Aramis so far.

If the gods didn’t hate him by now then he would have questioned if they were okay in the head.

Dismissing his status, Arthur looked up to see Sigesi lecturing McEnda who was on his knees for some reason, shaking his head with a sigh and turning towards the entrance.

Right then, Alvey and Jabberwocky walked into the place, and they had confused expressions upon seeing the two buckets on the floor.

McEnda on his knees also increased their confusion and Arthur gave them a simple explanation.

"McEnda was being silly, and Sigesi is scolding him."

"Oh, so the usual, then?"

"Yep, the usual."

Alvey nodded in understanding before making his way to the drawing room. He had been called here by McEnda but he silently abandoned the man and let him get scolded by Sigesi, completely ignoring his pleading gaze.

When McEnada was finally freed 10 minutes later, he rushed right into the drawing room, only to find himself drenched in water.

"...what?"

He turned around and saw Arthur standing behind him with an empty bucket and there was an ethereal projection of him right in front of the drawing-room door.

Arthur had used his Pseudo-Authority of Time to interfere with the McEnda of 5 seconds ago when he had just opened the door.

The effects of his actions were then transferred to the current McEnda, resulting in him having a taste of his own medicine.

As McEnda was a Transcendent with a Pseudo-Authority of his own, Arthur consumed a lot of cosmic energy for this, but if it meant getting back at the Archdemon for his earlier actions, then it was worth it! 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Like so, Arthur’s birthday passed on a relatively normal note with no particular celebrations.

The Demons wished him a happy birthday and when he went over to Tolgue, he met up with Rachel who took him out on a birthday dinner.

He didn’t do any more work that day, instead opting to relax on some of Torten’s verdant plains, watching the night sky while the hands of the clock ticked towards the next day.

In this fashion, Aramis stepped into the First day of January in the 531st Divine Year, a year that would forever be etched into the annals of history by the future historians of the Valmone Universe.
