Chapter 379: The Aramisians’ Fear
"..."
Ger remained silent and seeing this Arthur asked if it was silence because he didn’t know, or simply because he didn’t want to speak.
"I’d have you know that I can search your soul and extract said information whenever I want. I’m just being polite because of Rachel."
That wasn’t really the full truth as although Arthur could use the laws of life and death to search souls, he wasn’t proficient enough to pull out too many memories.
At most, he could see up to what Ger had for breakfast the previous day.
"You’re someone she kind of looks up to so I feel strange rendering you a vegetable."
Arthur placed his hand on his chin and looked at the ceiling as he thought about his answer just now.
"To think I’m caring this much about someone I just met in this universe over a week ago?"
His phrasing attracted Ger’s attention, with the man’s eyes going wide as he asked.
"This...Universe? Are you saying you’re not from this Universe?"
"Huh? I didn’t mention that? Oh, right...I only mentioned I wasn’t a demon."
"Impossible.
Crossing the dark matter that exists between galaxies is not possible, much less the greater Universe!"
Seeing Ger get all agitated had Arthur back up a bit before he suddenly burst into laughter.
"You know about the Galaxies and Universe but believe that traversing between them is impossible? Guess the gods do restrict your knowledge much.
I assure you that it is possible to traverse universes; I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t, after all."
Holding up his hand, he continued speaking.
"I spent my first week here dealing with the repulsive force of the universe trying to tell me to ’Get the fuck out’.
Unfortunately, I have zero plans of doing so for the next year."
Arthur casually revealed his plans before redirecting the conversation back to what the Aramisians think the Gozonians are after them for.
From Ger, Arthur discovered that the planet Gozon was a pretty big shot in the Orithyia Galaxy.
They were one of the oldest Prime Worlds in existence and one that had an interstellar empire like no other.
The Dominant Race of Gozon, the Demon Race, has been conquering other planets for as long as the History Books can date back to.
Many of the Demon Race Kings who existed, and the most powerful ones, were all Gozonians, and very few Interstellar Colonies had the power to match up to Gozon.
In fact, it required an alliance of over a dozen Interstellar Colonies to match up to Gozon’s Interstellar Empire and barely keep them in check.
"We noticed something strange about some worlds Gozon conquered. Prime Worlds.
Strangely, a few decades after losing to Gozon, these Prime Worlds suddenly vanished from existence.
No planetary debris or asteroid belts were left in the area.
These whole planets just disappeared."
"Deity Realms can easily take planets out of Orbits. There’s no big deal there...I’m sure your gods could do it too.
But the issue here is the fact that these Prime Worlds ’disappeared’, huh?"
Arthur could easily guess the reason for the Aramisians’ fierce resistance to the point that they’d resorted to creating Fake Divine Humans.
They were scared of what Gozon was doing to those Prime Worlds, and they didn’t want such things to happen to them.
He believed Alvey and McEnda knew of this, but they wouldn’t tell him. They already stated it was for ’Gozonian High-Rank Demon’s ears alone’.
"You didn’t say anything about the Demon enslavement part, though? Did your world’s people really do that?"
"..."
"I’d take that silence as a ’yes’."
In the end, the Aramisians were the ones who drew the attention of the Interstellar Behemoth which was Gozon to themselves with their actions.
If they never started enslaving the Demons, then maybe Gozon would not have discovered them.
The Galaxy is a big place, after all; with over 100,000 light years in diameter and thousands of inhabitable solar systems.
"Now I have two sides of the story...I need a third one to make a proper conclusion."
Arthur placed his elbow on the desk and propped up his chin on his palm as he looked at Ger and spoke.
"Major Ger, I honestly don’t know what to do with you."
The boy got up to his feet, making Ger move back a bit on reflex. Paying tis no mind, Arthur continued.
"I’ve been thinking about it for a while before you got here, and I didn’t arrive at an answer.
I don’t know what to do with you, and this Duskhand.
This whole place makes me feel strange. Despite knowing none of the people here and having zero relation to them...I feel ’annoyed’.
Why is that?"
At this point, the boy wasn’t talking to Ger anymore, but to himself. He drew upon the energy of the law of life and after twirling it around his finger, he understood where the ’annoyance’ he felt came from.
"It’s the law of life, huh?
The same way that Mother deals with destructive urges because of her own power...this thing is making me feel ’Annoyed’ by seeing how much of an abomination to ’Life’ is going on here."
But when Arthur thought about it properly, he realised that this was not supposed to be the case. His comprehension level in the law of life was abysmal, 5% at best, so why was the law’s power able to influence him?
’It’s just like how it was when I was comprehending the law of Tim—!"
It was then that it all clicked. Arthur took a seat and placed his hand on his chin as he sunk into his thoughts, making sure to have a spear of destructive energy crafted and pointed towards Ger to make the man behave.
"Could it be that my affinity for the Law of Life is as strong as my Time affinity?"
Though it sounded far-fetched, this was the only logical explanation.
Arthur’s time law comprehensions were still very low when he began having dreams of the ’future’ and his eye colour began changing.
The same with his destruction, as he started using the power of his ’Annihilation’ from a stage much lower than normal.
When it came to space and gravity—his next most used laws—nothing of the sort had happened.
The boy understood he had affinities for almost every element and law there was; with a few exceptions which he was just straight-up incompatible with.
He attributed this to a mixture of his innate talent with his nature as a Progenitor.
As for his affinities which were stronger than others, like Time and Destruction, it wasn’t hard to explain why that was.
Time was inherited from Kronos through Hades, and Destruction flowed in the Vaughn Family Line.
"I’m a Progenitor...the first of my race. It’s beginning, and its lifeline..."
The moment he thought this, his eyes widened in newfound realisation.
"Indeed...Progenitors are the Life and Death of their respective races, the beginning and the end."
If he thought about it that way, then it made perfect sense for him to have a higher affinity with the laws that derived from these concepts.
A burst of law energy escaped his body at that moment, its colour being a mixture of light green and pitch black.
He felt like a dam in his mind had been released, and the floodgates of knowledge had been opened up in his soul.
Right at that moment, his comprehensions in the two laws increased...as did the feeling of ’annoyance’ that he was getting, and this made Arthur frown in displeasure.
"This thing...it can be controlled. Uncle Creusery has higher law comprehensions than me, so he should feel this more strongly, and control it more so."
With that thought, the boy used his Progenitor Authority’s power, shying away a bit from activating it and giving three-fourths of Duskhand a sudden heart attack.
With his Authority’s aid, he ’pressed down’ on the life law energy and forced it to ’shut up’, easily dealing with the strange annoyance he felt.
"Damn...now I actually feel grateful to you..."
Having his comprehensions increase like this was a blessing in disguise and now he was beginning to see more ’worth’ in having come to the Duskhand Bastille.
"First, my understanding of racial factors increased, and next, I gained law comprehensions...I wonder what’s next?"
The boy controlled his energy properly as he spoke, before swivelling around on the seat to look out of the window, at the rest of Duskhand as he asked.
"The Soldiers who became Divine Humans...do they know where their ’powers’ came from?"
