Demon General McEnda walked into his best friend’s office with a blank gaze, pale cheeks and eye bags under his eyes.
He looked like someone had drained the life out of him for days on end, and though every other person had refrained from asking him about it, Arthur didn’t have any problems with that.
"Why do you look like you had your life force sucked out?"
His curiosity only increased when he saw Sigesi walk in right after him with a bright smile on her face, something that was clearly abnormal, given how dumbfounded Alvey’s aides looked when they saw her.
"That’s because someone actually did."
McEnda replied as he plopped down on the desk that had been set up not too far from Alvey’s and Sigesi greeted Arthur and the other Generals with a smile on her face while setting up the files that McEnda needed to grow through.
Alvey looked up from his desk and at the blue-haired woman when he heard her greeting, and after turning her gaze towards McEnda, recognition flashed through his eyes.
"Please don’t make him more useless than he normally is..."
"Worry not, General Sargon. General McEnda would be able to carry out his work at 120% efficiency today.
I made sure he has enough motivation for that."
She replied with the same smile that had Alvey’s aides looking like they had seen a ghost, before moving behind McEnda’s seat and patting his shoulders.
"Alright, General. First off, you have to approve the request to bring in more of the Portable Power Grids."
She leaned in front of him and placed the request letters sent by the man’s subordinates in front of him, whispering something in his ears while she did this.
No one knew what she said as she used magic to isolate the sound, but whatever it was, it caused McEnda’s lips to curl up slightly.
Arthur could see the man fighting the urge to grin and this only served to increase his curiosity.
While all of this was happening, Alvey had dismissed his Aides as he had finished all the paperwork that required their assistance, leaving only things that were for his eyes only.
As such, only he, Arthur, McEnda and Sigesi were left in the office.
And just when Arthur was about to go back to playing the video on his phone, he saw another scene he clearly didn’t expect.
Sigesi casually sat on top of McEnda’s desk, before picking up a stack of papers and marking some things on them with her pen.
"Do Brigadier Generals casually sit on their Superior’s desks while they are working in this Universe?"
The boy couldn’t help but ask this when he saw Sigesi’s actions, but thankfully, Alvey chipped in a reply and stopped him from developing a warped impression of this Universe’s Military system.
"Both of them are the only ones with this kind of relationship in the entire army.
No other lower-ranked officer dares to interact with McEnda the way she does."
"And why is that?"
"Because they are from Noble Demon Households, and are engaged officially."
"Oh..."
Alvey’s answer made everything that Arthur had seen in the past few minutes make a lot more sense.
’That’s why she called him by his first name yesterday...’
He did recall Sigesi addressing the man as ’Jack’, only for him to remind her that they were in an Official Setting which then prompted her to correct herself.
"Engaged, huh?"
Arthur muttered this as he used his partial Appraisal on Sigesi, however, when his gaze reached her Age tab, the boy’s eyes narrowed lightly.
|Name- Sigesi Valren
Race- Elder-Breed Demon
Gender-Female
Age-27
Existence Realm-Legendary (Superior)
Titles: Brigadier General of the Demon Army, Battle Junkie, Demon Noble, Frost Demon, Mid-Rank Demon, She Who Peruses the Doctrine of Ice...|
His narrowed gaze turned towards McEnda and the man silently looked away as if trying to avoid it.
"So, you like women half your age, huh?"
He said it half-jokingly, but from the way McEnda sighed with light exasperation, it seemed this wasn’t the first time he had been told this.
"She’s 27, that’s not half my age."
"It’s just a little margin for error."
Alvey chipped in a line that made McEnda’s brows twitch repeatedly, while Arthur had his gaze on Sigesi who ignored all of this while she worked.
"An Engagement by your Households, huh?
You can reject this kind of thing if you want, right?"
In response to Arthur’s question, McEnda picked up a red pen and rejected one of the requests in front of him before replying.
"Leave it to the juvenile High-Rank demon who hasn’t even conquered a Prime World to reject an engagement fixed by two Demon Kings.
I’m sure that’s gonna work out perfectly fine."
From his reply, Arthur didn’t need to be a genius to figure out that McEnda couldn’t do anything about it if he wanted.
"Oh please, the General wouldn’t dare to do such a thing.
In fact, he likes It quite a lot."
Sigesi finally spoke up as she arranged her files and put them in a folder, but McEnda’s expression fell when he heard her voice.
"Sigesi, stop talking."
Unfortunately, the woman didn’t seem to hear his words.
"After all, he’s a be—"
"Sigesi!"
"Yes, General?"
Seeing her tilt her head with pure confusion on her face as if she genuinely didn’t understand the reason why he stopped her from speaking, McEnda heaved a deep sigh.
"Some things are better left unsaid to outsiders."
"Is that so?"
The woman nodded lightly, before turning back to Arthur and continuing her words from earlier.
"As I was saying, the General is a mons—"
"Sigesi!!"
Unable to hold her flat expression anymore, the woman burst into laughter and it was then that McEnda finally understood that she had been messing with him from the start.
On the side, Alvey spoke to Arthur while pointing at the both of them with his pen.
"No matter how much this idiot may act like he doesn’t like it, it’s all a charade. He’s deeply in love with her."
"No, I’m not."
McEnda heard Alvey’s words and cut in with a denial, but instead of rebutting him, Alvey nodded in affirmation.
"Yes, you’re not in love with her, Planet Aramis is a square, and the Sun is Green."
"..."
"Pfft..."
Arthur had a hard time holding in his laughter when he heard Alvey’s reply, as it was clear as day that the man didn’t believe McEnda wasn’t head over heels for Sigesi.
The godslayer boy then placed a hand on his chin and sunk into his thoughts, before uttering a statement that threw the conversation onto a totally different topic.
"You know, there might actually be square planets somewhere in the universe."
And McEnda, ever ready to end this budding conversation about his love life, jumped on the lifeline that Arthur had thrown him.
"How messed up must a planet’s Self Gravity be to be squared instead of rounded?"
"Well, if you calculate the gravitational coefficient like this..."
Arthur created a projection of a planet with light, along with a grid showing the spacetime fabric and how the planet caused it to bend.
"You can see it like this...then the planet’s gravity can be altered like this..."
McEnda had a bit of Gravity law comprehension, so he could make sense of what Arthur was speaking of and genuinely became interested in trying to calculate how to make a planet squared.
"No, if you alter it in this manner, shouldn’t this reduce the curvature in space-time?"
"Yeah, it should. But don’t forget that a square has edges, the we have to completely make these points the edges..."
Seeing the both of them seriously get invested in the conversation, to the point of simulating a mini star system with fire, earth and gravity law energies, Alvey facepalmed with a sigh.
"I’m honestly amazed at how easily the both of you can derail a conversation."
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
Arthur looked at him with confusion on his face and Alvey pointed to Sigesi, making the boy remember their original conversation topic.
"Nahh, this is more important."
"Yeah, it’s more important."
McEnda chipped in as he infused more gravity law energy, making the rocks that were floating around the tiny ball of flames they created merge together and round themselves into a sphere.
"No, you used too much energy, fine-tune it like this..."
"That makes much more sense.
This kid...are your Gravity law comprehensions higher than mine?"
"I’m at 38%. You?"
"Damn, I’m at 30%."
Sigesi raised a brow in surprise when she heard Arthur talking about law comprehensions despite being a Legendary, but upon seeing how invested he and McEnda were, she decided not to ask.
They continued messing around with their little experiment for close to five minutes before Alvey finally got fed up and called them out on it.
"Can the both of you just realise you do not have enough Gravitational Law comprehension to understand how to make a planet a Square?"
