Chapter 39: Chapter 39

"The Demon Emperor isn’t lying to me, right?"

"The Demon Emperor really won’t kill my clansmen?"

Soren nodded. "Not killing them comes with the condition I just named."

"Thank you, Demon Emperor."

"Demon Emperor, you are truly a good person."

A good person? Soren nearly choked on his tea, the last thing he wanted was those two words shackled to him, he intended to do exactly as he pleased in this world.

On the panel, Absolute Loyalty glowed for several seconds, it faded slowly, but the message was clear, he wasn’t far from lighting it for good.

"Please, Demon Emperor, let me do something for you."

"Otherwise I will always feel uneasy."

"Whatever the Demon Emperor needs, I will do it."

Soren felt his scalp go numb. "I don’t need you to do anything at the moment."

"No, I want to do things for the Demon Emperor."

Her stubborn innocence left him with nothing to say, he honestly had no task to give her.

"I have an idea."

"From now on, please let me be the Demon Emperor’s personal maid!"

"I will work hard to satisfy the Demon Emperor."

One look at those welling eyes and he knew she’d cry if he refused. "Do whatever you want."

"But answer the rest of my questions honestly."

"Yes." Ethel brightened at once, a stone had lifted off her heart, if she did nothing for him, she would always feel she owed him.

He had pulled her and her brother out of Grant’s hands, he had stopped her brother’s berserk rampage, yet he wanted neither her blood nor her in his bed.

She truly could not figure out what Soren was after.

She offered to massage his shoulders, he agreed, and her warm little hands danced lightly across them, no lie, it felt good.

Seeing him settle back with eyes half-closed, Ethel gathered her thoughts and began her recount.

"Black Dragon Mountain is a very strange place, it seems only my Ice Heaven Alluring Fox clan can enter and leave, other Spirit clans cannot."

"I heard a one-eyed Elder Grandpa say so."

"Black Dragon Mountain is a super, super massive place."

"My clan’s territory isn’t deep inside or high up, it sits somewhere like halfway up the mountain."

"Any deeper and the sonic waves affect us too, so we only occupy a small corner."

"Demons, humans, beasts, and most Spirit clans can’t enter at all."

"So Black Dragon Mountain is a huge treasure trove, rich in resources."

"Especially the wild medicinal herbs, too many to count."

"But the precious ones grow deeper in."

"We can’t reach them, so we can’t harvest them, and the herbs around the clan territory won’t last forever."

"My clan has strict rules, the Clan Chief and the Elders forbid anyone from leaving the territory’s bounds, they say unknown dangers wait inside the mountain."

Soren had the shape of it, the Ice Heaven Alluring Fox clan had never fully occupied Black Dragon Mountain, and its secrets remained unraveled, a vast, masterless treasure trove, he meant to claim it.

He hesitated no longer, he brought Ethel and Lysara down from the upper level.

He still couldn’t fully trust Lysara, but she held Lower-Tier Human Emperor strength, an excellent fighter, and her tier read Obedient and Submissive, he could start training her autonomous reactions now.

Right up until Deep Affection and Righteousness lit.

At that point, whomever Soren favored, whomever he turned hostile toward, Lysara would sense it at once, she would attack or shield him without thinking, no more waiting on commands.

The three left the independent space.

Bruce stayed behind, planted on the iron chair facing the imprisoned trio, features scrunched together, looking depressed.

"Why didn’t Master take me?" He couldn’t figure it out, his brain felt ready to burst.

Althea and Duke traded a silent glance, then turned to Abel, they conversed with their eyes.

Althea said through mental transmission, this blockhead doesn’t look smart, with Soren gone, should we try communicating with him?

Duke replied, If we can turn Bruce, we can use him.

Abel nodded frantically, only Soren can open this space, but having the blockhead smuggle information back to the Great Emperor Palace shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Althea’s mouth curled, her expression turned wicked and enchanting, if we transmit Soren’s route to Father, he can set an ambush.

Abel’s eyes went vicious, Soren made me suffer, he chopped off my limbs and even dared to cut my... ahem, I won’t let him off, I will repay every humiliation a hundredfold, a thousandfold.

Bruce, already glum, caught Abel wearing that sinister grin, he decided Abel was mocking him, frowned, and walked over.

A massive palm cracked across Abel’s face. "What the hell are you laughing at!?"

Abel sat stunned stupid, he shot Althea and Duke a look begging for rescue.

Duke went mute and shook his head, he had no chips to sway Bruce, rverything rode on their eldest sister, Althea rolled her eyes at his uselessness.

The only chip left was her looks.

The dignified eldest daughter of the Great Demon Emperor, reduced to selling her charms to a Minotaur, the thought alone made her sick.

But a chance this rare would never come twice.

Althea smoothed her feelings, squeezed out a smile, drew Bruce’s attention, and lavished praise on his powerful physique.

Bruce was half-human, half-beast, and bare-chested, his muscles bulged like they might split the skin, far more imposing than any ordinary man.

He seemed to lap up the flattery, Althea sensed her opening and kept hinting.

"If I could become Dao companions with someone like you, I think that would be a very happy thing, don’t you?"

"Sigh, what a pity fate hasn’t tied us together."

"Locked up where we can’t see daylight, I don’t even know when Little Brother Soren will kill us."

"If, and I only say if, we truly survive this..."

"Hehe, Bruce, would you want to have a deep exchange with me?"

Bruce looked her up and down, his gaze slowly changed.

Then a massive slap landed on her face.
