Chapter 36: Chapter 36
[Name: Ethel.]
[Spirit Race Species: Ice Heaven Alluring Fox.]
[Middle-Tier Spirit King.]
[Bloodline Tier: Premium.]
The base data mattered less than the strategy, his starting tier with Jared read Strangers Meeting by Chance.
His starting tier with Ethel read Obedient and Submissive, born, most likely, of sheer terror.
Jared could scream "I won’t say even if you kill me" all he liked, Ethel might simply, obediently, tell Soren everything he wanted to know.
Across the panel, lines of text woven from Great Dao energy rose into view.
[Jared lost both parents at a young age, though his aptitude is excellent, his clansmen cruelly ostracized him, he survives by relying on Ethel, and the two often go hungry.]
[Ethel is the most important person in Jared’s life.]
[A younger sister he would die to protect.]
[To conquer Jared and raise his relationship tier, you must begin with Ethel.]
[The more care Ethel receives and the more protection she is given, the higher Jared’s loyalty and affection for Master will climb.]
[Jared left Black Dragon Mountain in secret to steal a medicinal herb from the storage pavilion of the Violet Jade Immortal Domain’s Commerce Guild.]
[The herb is exclusive to the Commerce Guild within the Violet Jade Immortal Domain.]
[Its purpose: suppressing an innate curse.]
A curse.
Soren fixed his will on the word, and the panel unfolded its details.
[A racial curse unique to the Ice Heaven Alluring Fox. It appears in one of every hundred thousand clansmen and flares without warning at certain times.]
[When it flares, the bearer loses consciousness and goes berserk, their strength multiplies severalfold, but they attack anything that moves, friend or foe alike.]
[The medicinal power of Heart-Nourishing Tranquility Grass can suppress an onset, but each stalk lasts only one year.]
[The herb does not grow in Black Dragon Mountain. To keep protecting Ethel, and to avoid hurting her when his condition strikes, Jared chose to risk sneaking out to steal it.]
So that was it.
The clan shunned the siblings, and the curse was almost certainly why.
A good older brother.
Soren thought for a moment, then switched to Ethel’s strategy panel.
[Ethel harbors equally deep affection for her older brother.]
[Worried about Jared acting alone, she secretly followed him out of Black Dragon Mountain.]
[Jared only discovered her at the Commerce Guild, leaving the two no choice but to act together.]
[Rescue Jared, or help him resolve his curse, and Ethel’s relationship tier will rise just as quickly.]
An interesting pair, treat the brother well, and the sister submits, treat the sister well, and the brother submits.
The two were weak, hardly worth conquering, and Ethel’s Premium Spirit blood wouldn’t move his needle much.
What he cared about was Black Dragon Mountain itself, and the Spirit tribes hiding inside it.
A Spirit army serving under him, that was a pleasant thought.
Except the Spirit race and the demon race carried a blood feud with no bottom, demons had hunted Spirits for ages, selling them, draining them as blood-supplying Spirit slaves.
Crushing them by force was no problem, effortless, even.
The problem was getting them to serve with absolute loyalty.
Soren had also wanted to squeeze the siblings for a way into Black Dragon Mountain, both claimed they knew of none, he checked the encyclopedia, they truly didn’t.
All that was certain, only members of the Ice Heaven Alluring Fox clan could pass in and out freely, untouched.
The Strategy Encyclopedia could conquer anything, but it required contact first, for now, it offered no strategy for entering the mountain.
He would move first thing tomorrow morning.
"Can I ask... how, how do you plan to deal with us?" Ethel was terrified of him, even her voice shook.
She had watched Lysara get flung aside, Soren’s demonic energy raking across her body seventy or eighty times like a scythe.
A Lower-Tier Human Emperor, swatted away for refusing one order, in Ethel’s eyes, Soren was a demon among demons.
Everything she knew of the demon race was hearsay, she had been born inside Black Dragon Mountain and never once set foot outside it, today marked her fifth day in a demon’s company.
He said nothing, Ethel bit her lip hard.
"My brother is in poor health."
"Could you please let him go?"
"I know this request is asking too much."
"I have Premium Spirit blood."
"I... I will produce more Spirit blood for you."
"A bottle of Spirit blood is worth a Venerable-tier medicinal pill, ordinary Spirit slaves can provide it about ten times a year."
"I can provide it twelve times... no, no, fifteen is fine too."
She blurted it out sentence by sentence, who could blame her? She was negotiating terms with a demon.
Afraid Spirit blood alone wouldn’t move him, she hastily added one more line. "I can also... warm your bed for you."
Jared’s eyes went bright red. "Ethel, what nonsense are you spouting?"
"Demon, just kill me! As long as you leave my sister alone, you can kill me however you want!"
"All this chattering is annoying!" Soren turned to Bruce.
"Lock the two of them in the third room first."
"No one enters or leaves except me."
"The quality of the Spirit blood must be guaranteed, give them each a medicinal pill to recuperate."
"I’ll deal with them when I’m in the mood."
Bruce marched the two into the third room.
The room and its door were both wrapped in a powerful formation, there was no escape, the heavy door rumbled shut, and the formation sealed tight.
Ethel stared at the pill in her hand. "Brother, I feel like he isn’t as bad as we imagined..."
"Ethel, don’t be fooled, he’s a monstrous demon who kills without blinking, what wouldn’t he do?"
"Besides, he said it himself, the pills are to ensure the quality of our bloodline."
Ethel let out a soft oh, She opened her hand and looked at the pill in silence.
Soren wrapped Lysara in demonic energy and carried her to his own room.
It sat at the highest point of the independent space, on the upper floor of the demonic fortress, the largest room, and the quietest, fitted out in luxury, this little space of his was small but complete.
Lysara stared at the bathtub carved from crystal in front of her, she was stunned, shen she looked at Soren, seated in a chair to the side, chin resting on one hand.
