Chapter 20: Chapter 20

The Great Emperor Palace had received Soren’s latest gift.

A pair of legs, severed from the knees down.

The Third Matriarch recognized them at a glance as Abel’s.

The blow proved too much, she screamed, convulsed, and fainted dead away, the maids carried her out.

Vorian sat in black silence for a long, long while, at last, he spat out a single word.

"Good."

"Good, Soren!"

That majestic, freezing voice made every heart in the hall seize, the whole assembly seemed to shrink three inches.

The crowd edged back half a step, no one dared speak.

A bald old demon with white eyebrows steeled himself and stepped forward.

"Master, Soren’s movements run one step ahead of ours, every time."

"It seems he anticipated that we would seed spies into the Ice Heaven Demonic Palace, which is why he abandoned the palace outright."

"He took only his two confidants, Bruce and Arnold, we have no idea what his next move will be."

"The man acts unpredictably and avenges the smallest slight, this old servant said from the start that the Great Emperor Palace must not act rashly."

"Show him even a flicker of hostility, and he strikes back without mercy, his purpose in sending this today is nothing more than a warning, do not do what should not be done."

"If we insist on opposing him, the three captive offspring will pay for it."

This enforced passivity sat in Vorian’s gut like a stone, it felt like a boot planted on his head.

When had he ever imagined that he, ruler of the Endless Demonic Domain, would be strangled into a corner like this?

For a moment, Vorian drifted, if he hadn’t severed the bond with Soren, if he hadn’t thrown Soren’s mother into the Black Water Dungeon, would none of this have happened?

No, I am the Great Demon Emperor, I bow to no one, and I regret nothing. Let’s see what waves a Lower-Tier Demon Emperor with no backing can raise in my hands.

Seeing the edge return to Vorian’s gaze, the white-browed old demon continued.

"Great Demon Emperor, though we cannot move against him, tracking his whereabouts remains essential."

"He has left the Ice Heaven Demonic Realm, which means he has a destination. If he is still inside the Domain, finding him will not be difficult."

"The fear is that he has left the Domain entirely."

"I will contact the various departments and instruct our spies in the other domains to watch for him."

Vorian gave a small nod of silent assent.

Then he walked toward the chamber where the Sixth Matriarch was held, forced to comply with Soren’s demand, he had released her from the Black Water Dungeon the previous afternoon, she was now under house arrest in a hidden room.

Soren left Arnold at the demonic fortress inside the independent space, took Bruce, and crossed into the Violet Jade Immortal Domain.

Bruce rode the wind with his face glowing like springtime, grinning ear to ear like a bear that had just robbed a beehive.

On the Strategy Encyclopedia, Bruce’s relationship level now read Following to the Death.

He was delivering a full report of his activities, Soren truly did not want to hear what the man had been doing in that room, but the blockhead possessed none of Arnold’s tact.

Once inside the Violet Jade Immortal Domain, Soren had no plans to dawdle, straight through, direct to Black Dragon Mountain.

"Master, this is the Fairy Great Demon Emperor’s territory, should we disguise ourselves?"

"No need."

Soren’s answer was perfectly calm. In this domain, only Victoria stood above him in strength, and with the Demonic Lotus in hand, she wouldn’t dare touch him.

Within a domain, he could travel by tearing the void, so tear it he did, the horizon shattered like glass under a hammer, opening into boundless space like primordial chaos.

He led Bruce inside, when they stepped out, the two had reached deep into the central cities of the Violet Jade Immortal Domain.

Reaching Black Dragon Mountain would take at least three or four more tears.

Soren was only a Lower-Tier Demon Emperor, crossing an entire domain in a single tear was the privilege of the Upper Tier, and he had ripped through the void many times these past days, his demonic energy reserves were bleeding out accordingly.

He didn’t want to lose time, he also had no choice, he stopped to recover.

Bruce watched his master hover in midair, deep in thought, and scratched his head. "Master, what’s wrong?"

"Nothing."

Calm on the outside, not remotely calm on the inside.

I lost every memory of his demonic techniques, without a technique, how am I supposed to absorb demonic energy?

Soren didn’t panic, he turned the Strategy Encyclopedia on himself, searching for whatever strategy would benefit him most, recovering energy, raising strength, anything.

[The Strategy Encyclopedia comes equipped with the Six Paths Form Diagram. It senses its owner’s identity and transforms into abilities matching his needs.]

[In accordance with Master’s identity as a Demon Emperor, the Six Paths Form Diagram has already transformed into the abilities most suited to Master.]

Even as surprise registered, the Encyclopedia flipped itself over and glowed milky white.

The Heavenly Book mode divided into six regions, each like a cage, iron chains of condensed energy stretched out of the Book and into the cages, their far ends shackled to the bodies of six women.

All six were in visible torment, struggling bitterly in their cramped prisons, their powers lay sealed inside their own bodies, and no method they tried could release them.

It seemed only Soren could see them, they could not see him.

Guided by the Heavenly Book, Soren channeled his demonic energy along the lines of the Form Diagram, into the body of the woman representing the Lord of the Heavenly Dao.

In the next second, the holy white dress on the beautiful young woman shattered away into motes of light, black motes gathered in their place, weaving into a demonic dress as thin as silkworm silk.
