Chapter 17: Chapter 17
He stared at her profile, at those lips, dazzling as dark blood.
Soren sucked in a breath of cold air.
Then he pressed his lips to hers.
Victoria’s eyes flew wide, her body shaking.
An invisible current seemed to pour into her from the point of contact and crash around inside her, scattering her thoughts and her Dao Heart into pure chaos.
"Soren... you have some nerve..."
"You dare humiliate me!?"
Soren was gambling his life on this, he could not show weakness now. If anything, he had to push harder.
Because if he wasn’t domineering enough, Victoria would only stew hotter with every passing second, and the moment she came back to herself, she would slap him into a cripple.
Keep going.
Compared to Victoria, who stood as if struck by an immobilization talisman and a weakness talisman at once, Arnold and the two Upper-Tier Demon Venerables were in even worse shape.
Arnold stood frozen, one hand at his waist, the other clamped on his skull cane, utterly shocked.
"Oh my, truly worthy of my young master. This courage outstrips the Upper-Tier Great Demon Emperors of every domain combined!"
"This old servant has followed the young master for hundreds of years, and this is the first time I’ve seen him take the initiative with a woman."
"Why is my old face blushing?"
The two Demon Venerables of the Violet Jade Immortal Domain fared no better, bodies trembling, legs numb, they pointed shaking fingers at the man brazenly drinking down their Fairy’s essence and found no words at all.
The boy has lost his mind! To do that to the Fairy Great Demon Emperor! He’s dead, utterly dead.
The Fairy will scatter his ashes to the winds!
Then again... Fairy Great Demon Emperor, you’ve been in his arms for a dozen seconds now. Why haven’t you pushed him off? And why in the world are you closing your eyes?
The more the two thought about it, the less sense it made, and the worse their premonition grew.
Soren kept his attention nailed to the Strategy Encyclopedia, perhaps the shock of his boldness ran deep, because the title Obedient and Submissive flickered.
On. Off. On.
And then it lit up, and stayed lit.
One decisive strike of affection had launched Victoria from Strangers Meeting by Chance straight into Obedient and Submissive.
She probably isn’t planning to kill me anymore, what an unexpectedly efficient upgrade.
Of course, nothing in this world was absolute, especially not with a woman like Victoria, who slaughtered without blinking yet melted at being called a fairy, tier or no tier, she might still want him dead.
Soren released her and retreated hard, opening a wide gap between them.
Victoria stood there looking thoroughly intoxicated, and swallowed without realizing it.
"The Fairy Demon Emperor tastes excellent, fragrant and sweet."
"Soren, you’re courting death!"
"I’ll kill you!" Victoria snapped awake as if doused in ice water and lunged at him with a shriek.
Soren’s hand rose in the gesture of detonating the demonic lotus, and Victoria slammed to a halt, forced back to where she’d stood.
She glared at him, chest heaving, a dead-still pool churned into a raging sea.
Never, not once, had she imagined that a Lower-Tier Demon Emperor would dare treat her, an Upper-Tier Demon Emperor, with such disrespect.
Her mind had simply gone blank, she had no explanation for why she’d stayed tangled up with him that long without pushing him off.
And once she calmed slightly, a stranger thought arrived, she had just been assaulted, so why wasn’t she anywhere near as furious as she should be?
Victoria dredged up her emotions by force, trying to stoke the killing intent to teach him a lesson.
She failed, the killing intent kept drowning under curiosity.
An intense, overwhelming need to understand this man.
Why isn’t he the coward from the rumors? Why is he a Lower-Tier Demon Emperor? And why is he this bold? He stole my first kiss in front of three Demon Venerables!
Victoria was a mess, she turned her face aside, unwilling to meet his eyes, because every time she looked at him, the memory returned, and her whole body ran hot.
"I have no intention of dying together with you."
"Nor did I come for the World-Destroying Demonic Lotus."
Arnold and the two Demon Venerables had long since stopped following any of it, shouldn’t she be flying into a rage? Shouldn’t there be an earth-shattering battle?
Victoria flicked her eyes at the two Demon Venerables, they hurried out a yes and descended, one left, one right, rummaging through the piles of purple crystal, soon both stopped at the same corner and started shouting.
"It’s gone!"
"Fairy Great Demon Emperor, the Holy Nectar has been taken!"
Victoria’s willow brows lifted a fraction, then, slowly, she looked back at Soren and the faint smile hanging on his face.
"The Holy Nectar, that was you as well, wasn’t it?"
Soren nodded. "It’s in my hands."
Victoria sighed. "I discovered it here long ago. I never hurried to take it because it hadn’t fully matured, now I have urgent need of it, so I came to collect."
Soren had considered gifting it as a favor, a fast track to a better relationship, but with Victoria, selling favors simply didn’t work, and the Earth Core Holy Nectar was worth a fortune besides.
He was no simp, he was not about to hand over a treasure knowing it wouldn’t move her tier an inch, he was a man starting from nothing, with everything left to build.
Every good item stayed in his pocket.
Seeing he had no intention of surrendering it, Victoria thought for a moment, then drew a spiritual fruit from her storage, wrapped it in demonic energy, and floated it across to him.
"Honest people don’t talk in riddles."
"An old friend of mine needs the Holy Nectar to extend their life."
"This Dark Thunder Fruit is every bit as valuable, and it benefits cultivation besides. I’ll trade you."
Soren caught the fruit, felt the potent medicinal power humming inside it, and flipped a small vial of Holy Nectar back to her in the same motion.
