Chapter 63: Prophecy and Mother

As the force pulled him away, Wuxia’s senses spun violently and a wave of dizziness struck him, followed by the urge to vomit despite no longer possessing a physical body.

He tried calling the system, but no response came, before he could understand what was happening, light returned around him and the pulling force suddenly disappeared.

Wuxia steadied himself and looked around, only to see the same woman standing before him.

His mind went blank, he recognised her immediately, yet no words came as he stared at the face he had not seen in years.

The woman slowly approached him and to Wuxia’s shock, her hand did not pass through his soul. Her fingers gently touched his cheek as a soft voice escaped her lips.

"My child... it seems you have grown up."

Wuxia’s soul trembled, and when he finally managed to speak, his voice was barely steady. "Mother..."

The impression gave him a faint smile. "You could say that, my child."

Her fingers remained against his cheek as her expression softened. "I am sorry for leaving you behind, it seems you have already discovered some things, but—"

A red crack suddenly tore through the golden dome.

[External interference detected.]

Before Wuxia could react, a chain shot from the crack and struck the woman’s body. A gasp of pain escaped her as the chain tightened and dragged her backwards. "Mother!"

Wuxia rushed toward her, but she raised one hand and stopped him. "My child, listen to me, I do not have much time."

She forced herself upright despite the chain pulling against her. "Your father and I never betrayed the Alliance."

"We were not merely the commander and vice commander of that city, the Wargod Hall sent us there on a mission and someone betrayed us."

Her voice trembled, but she continued before Wuxia could interrupt. "Your father and I would never betray humanity."

Another red crack appeared behind her and a second chain shot through the golden space and pierced her impression. Her body twisted as a scream escaped her, while cracks spread across the light forming her figure.

Wuxia’s expression changed as anger and confusion surged through him. "Who did this? Who betrayed you?"

His mother looked at him through the pain. "Beware of everyone in this era. Until you learn the truth, you cannot trust anyone."

The chains pulled tighter, causing more cracks to spread across her body. "Find your father," she said hurriedly. "He is still alive; he can help you uncover what happened."

A third crack tore open above them.

[Purging external interference.]

More chains emerged from the darkness beyond it, but the woman continued speaking and a small token separated from the centre of her forehead and flew toward Wuxia.

He caught it before it could fall. "You must find your father."

The golden dome shattered before she could say anything more. Chains poured through the surrounding cracks and pierced her impression from several directions, locking her arms, legs, and body in place.

Wuxia tried to move toward her, but the space between them twisted and forced him back.

"Mother!"

Her head lowered as the chains dragged her deeper into the collapsing light but then she slowly looked up again.

Her expression had become empty, and when her mouth opened, the voice that came out was no longer hers.

Her expression became empty, and when her mouth opened, the voice that emerged was no longer hers.

It was neither male nor female, and each word spread through the collapsing space as if countless distant voices were speaking together.

"The gates buried beyond the heavens will open once more and the Era of Gods shall return to the mortal world."

Wuxia froze as the chains around his mother tightened.

"The old thrones will awaken, the forgotten names will reclaim their followers, and those who once fled from humanity will descend again."

More red cracks spread across the golden dome, but the voice continued without pause.

"When the first throne crosses the broken boundary, the World Seed will awaken from its long slumber."

"Fed by the blood of this era, it shall grow into one of two futures."

"One shall rise as an eternal flame, consuming the laws of the old world and allowing something new to be born from its ashes."

"The other shall bloom as endless frost, sealing the world in perfect stillness so that nothing within it may ever change again."

The chains dragged his mother deeper into the cracks as the golden space trembled around them.

"Fire shall bring destruction and rebirth."

"Ice shall bring preservation and death."

"Neither path shall save humanity without a price."

Wuxia’s eyes narrowed as the empty gaze of his mother’s impression shifted toward him.

"When the World Seed chooses its bearer, the hidden thrones will reveal themselves, ancient oaths will be broken, and the traitors buried within humanity will rise."

The voice paused as the cracks spread across her entire body.

"And when the final gate opens, the chosen bearer must decide whether the returning gods will inherit this world..."

"...or burn with the era they abandoned."

[Interference purged.]

The remaining golden light shattered, and the chains tore the impression apart before Wuxia could reach her.

The next instant, Wuxia’s consciousness twisted again and before he could react, the collapsing space vanished and he was thrown back into the memorial hall.

He steadied himself and looked around and noticed that almost nothing had changed. The ceremony had just ended, and the others were beginning to turn away from the stele.

Xingluo immediately noticed his return and shock flashed across her face, but she quickly controlled her expression and followed Professor Liang toward the exit.

Professor Liang glanced at her several times as they walked, his gaze carrying a trace of caution.

Wuxia understood that Xingluo’s reaction during his disappearance had probably drawn his attention.

Questions, anger and confusion crowded Wuxia’s mind, but he forced them down. Professor Liang was already watching Xingluo closely, and this was not the place to reveal that something had happened.
