Chapter 2: Reborn
Shen Wuxia floated silently within a dark void, his mind replaying everything that had happened after he accepted the strange voice’s offer.
The moment he chose yes, it felt as though something had violently yanked him away from death itself, and his fading consciousness had been completely refreshed before he was thrown into this endless darkness.
Since then, he had remained there without a body, direction, or sense of time, forced to watch his own memories repeat again and again inside his mind.
Sometimes it felt as though several days had already passed, yet at the same time, it also felt like only a few minutes ago he had still been running through the burning dungeon corridors.
Just then, the void around him suddenly twisted violently as another irresistible force grabbed hold of him without warning.
Shen Wuxia felt the surrounding space collapse inward, and before he could even think, blinding light struck his face as the sensation of cold air returned to him again.
His eyes opened immediately afterward, and the first thing he saw was not the dungeon, nor the burning corridors, but a messy room filled with scattered clothes, books, and old papers.
Snow fell quietly beyond the window while the faint light outside reflected against the glass, covering the room in a pale winter glow.
Shen Wuxia slowly turned his gaze afterward until his eyes landed on the calendar hanging beside the wall.
Several dates had already been crossed out, and when he saw the marked day clearly, his expression changed slightly.
It was the seventh day of the tenth month in the Year of Rahk.
That meant twenty days had already passed since he entered that hidden instance and died inside it.
But before that realization could settle properly, something suddenly stirred nearby, and the blanket lying across the bed slipped down slightly.
Sleeping beneath it was a beautiful girl wearing a loose white T-shirt and soft pajamas, her purple hair scattered across the pillow like fine strands of silk.
Seeing her, Shen Wuxia froze for a moment, yet the faint smile resting on her face struck him harder than any monster inside the dungeon ever had.
His breathing stopped as he hurriedly approached the bed and looked at her more carefully.
The young girl before him slowly overlapped with another figure buried six years deep inside his memories, and for a brief moment, Shen Wuxia could not even move.
Luo Xingluo.
He instinctively looked away afterward, as if afraid staring any longer would shatter the scene before him.
His gaze swept across the room and finally stopped on a book placed nearby, where the same name had been written neatly across the cover.
Shock surfaced in his eyes as he moved his hand forward to pick up the book, but the moment his fingers touched it, they passed straight through the cover without resistance.
Before he could react, a blue system panel was suddenly forced before his face.
[Player: Shen Wuxia]
[Level: 93 (Sealed)]
[Status: Dead]
[Talent: Sealed]
[Class: Sealed]
[Health: Sealed]
[Mana: Sealed]
[Stats: Sealed]
Shen Wuxia stared at the panel in disbelief before hurriedly trying to touch several other things inside the room.
Yet whether it was the book, the table, the chair, or the scattered clothes near the bed, his hand passed through all of them as if his entire body no longer belonged to the world.
He then tried to move toward the door, but the moment he reached a certain distance from Luo Xingluo, an invisible force dragged him back harshly.
No matter how many times he tried afterward, he could not move more than ten feet away from her.
After countless failed attempts, Shen Wuxia finally slumped down against the floor beside the bed while a cold realization slowly settled inside him.
He had truly died, and for some unknown reason, his soul was now bound to Luo Xingluo.
She had once been the girl from his old town, the one who stayed in his memory even after he left.
They had not been lovers, and maybe she had barely remembered him, but Wuxia had carried her name quietly for years.
Now, through some absurd twist of fate, he had returned to the world as a dead man bound to the one person he thought he would never meet again.
Shen Wuxia slowly raised his head and looked toward the clock on the wall, where the hands quietly pointed toward one in the morning.
With no way to touch anything, leave the room, or wake the sleeping girl before him, he could only remain there silently.
After all his desperate attempts failed, Shen Wuxia leaned back against the cold floor and waited beneath the quiet sound of falling snow.
Time slowly passed in silence until the clock on the wall finally struck five in the morning, and the alarm beside the bed rang out sharply through the quiet room.
Luo Xingluo groaned faintly beneath the blanket before raising one hand and slapping the alarm down with practiced irritation.
She stretched lazily afterward while still half-asleep, her purple hair falling messily across her shoulders as she slowly sat up on the bed.
But just as she dangled her feet down to search for her slippers, her gaze suddenly landed on the man standing silently in front of her bed.
For one frozen moment, the room became completely still, then a scream tore straight out of her mouth.
Shen Wuxia, who had not expected to be seen at all, was so shocked by her scream that he instinctively screamed back.
The next instant, Luo Xingluo grabbed the pillow beside her and threw it at him with all her strength, only for the pillow to pass straight through his body before crashing against the wall behind him.
Seeing that, both of them froze again.
Shen Wuxia hurriedly stepped forward afterward while raising both hands in panic, trying to stop her before the situation became worse. "Wait, wait, do not scream, Miss Xingluo, please calm down first."
But the moment he approached, Luo Xingluo backed away even faster, pulling the blanket tightly against herself while her face turned pale from shock. "Ghost! There is a ghost in my room!"
Before Shen Wuxia could explain anything, the door suddenly banged open, and a middle-aged woman appeared there with an angry and exhausted expression on her face.
Her hair was slightly messy, and the frustration in her eyes clearly showed that this was not the way she had wanted to start her morning.
"What are you screaming for so early in the morning?" she shouted while walking straight into the room.
Shen Wuxia instinctively tried to move aside and hide, but he was already too late.
The woman passed directly through his body without the slightest pause and approached Luo Xingluo as if there was absolutely nothing standing in her path.
Seeing this scene, both Shen Wuxia and Luo Xingluo became stunned at the same time. The woman had not seen him, nor had she heard him.
Only Luo Xingluo could see and hear him.
Luo Xingluo looked at Shen Wuxia, who was pleading silently with both hands clasped together, then looked back at her mother standing angrily beside the bed.
After several stiff breaths, she forced a nervous smile onto her face and said quickly, "Sorry, Mom... I just had a really weird bad dream."
Hearing that, her mother sighed heavily before rubbing her forehead in irritation. "Well, okay then, now get ready while I prepare breakfast for you.
Another day you woke me ahead of my time, so be happy your dad is not here, otherwise he would have blasted the door apart already."
After saying that, her mother turned around and left the room while still grumbling under her breath, completely ignoring Shen Wuxia’s existence.
Only after the door closed again did both the girl and the dead man slowly slump down at the same time, as if all strength had left them together.
Luo Xingluo stared at him for several moments, her expression shifting between fear, confusion, and disbelief. "Who are you? What are you? Have I finally gone insane?"
Hearing this, Shen Wuxia slowly cleared his throat as if preparing himself for some grand and dignified explanation.
Yet after standing there seriously for several breaths, the only thing that came out of his mouth was a single helpless sentence.
"You are not insane, Miss Xingluo... it is just that I am a stranded soul somehow latched onto you."
