Chapter 11: Trust
As the darkness shattered around him, a soft white light-struck Shen Wuxia’s eyes again.
For a moment, his vision remained blurred, and only after several breaths did the scene around him slowly become clear.
White walls, clean curtains, healing lamps, and faint blue medical arrays surrounded him from every direction.
The sharp smell of medicine drifted through the air, while several monitoring crystals floated quietly beside a hospital bed.
Before Shen Wuxia could fully understand where he had returned, a startled scream suddenly rang out from behind him.
His expression changed immediately as he turned around, only to see Luo Xingluo sitting on the hospital bed with a completely frozen expression.
Her face was still pale, and a thin blanket covered her lower body, yet her eyes were fixed on him without blinking.
For several breaths, neither of them spoke. Then Xingluo suddenly threw the blanket aside and climbed down from the bed, almost stumbling because her body had not fully recovered yet.
Shen Wuxia instinctively moved forward to support her, but his hands passed through her shoulders without resistance.
Seeing that familiar scene, Xingluo stopped in front of him and looked at his translucent figure carefully, as if confirming he had truly returned.
The next moment, her eyes reddened without warning.
Before Shen Wuxia could ask anything, tears had already started falling down her face, and she slowly sat back on the edge of the bed.
Seeing her cry so suddenly, Shen Wuxia became completely stiff for a moment.
"Miss Xingluo, why are you crying?" he asked quickly, his voice carrying rare panic." what happened?"
Hearing his voice, Xingluo lowered her head for a few breaths before her shoulders trembled even harder.
"I am sorry," she said quietly, her voice breaking between words. "I should have listened to you from the start."
Shen Wuxia opened his mouth slightly, but the words stopped before they could leave.
Xingluo wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, yet more tears fell almost immediately afterward.
"I should not have gone to that party," she continued, her fingers tightening around the blanket. "I thought your soul dispersed because of me."
She raised one trembling hand and pointed toward the center of her forehead.
Only then did Shen Wuxia notice the faint star-shaped mark resting between her brows, its pale silver glow almost hidden beneath her messy bangs.
"You became so pale and transparent before vanishing into this mark," Xingluo said softly. "No matter how much I called you afterward, you did not answer."
Hearing this, Shen Wuxia slowly looked at the mark on her forehead, and his expression became a little complicated.
So, after the system forced him into shutdown, his soul had been pulled directly into the Anchor Link.
No wonder he had woken up inside that dark space instead of beside her.
But looking at Xingluo’s tearful face, Shen Wuxia pushed those thoughts aside for the moment and tried to comfort her first.
He raised his hand awkwardly, hesitated for a breath, then still tried to pat her head. As expected, his palm passed straight through her hair and sank halfway into the pillow behind her.
The scene became silent, Shen Wuxia slowly withdrew his hand with a stiff expression, while Xingluo stared at him through her tears for several moments.
Then, for some reason, the absurdity of his failed comfort made her crying soften into a small broken laugh.
Seeing that she had finally stopped crying so hard, Shen Wuxia released a quiet breath and said helplessly, "It is all right now, Miss Xingluo. I am still here."
Xingluo sniffed softly before lowering her head, her fingers still clutching the blanket tightly.
After a long silence, she finally looked up at him again, her eyes still wet but no longer as frightened as before.
"Thank you for saving me," she said quietly, her voice much softer than usual.
Shen Wuxia was about to reply seriously, but the next words made his expression freeze in place.
"Thank you, my knight."
For a brief moment, Shen Wuxia stared at her without moving, and even his faint soul body seemed to stiffen under that sentence.
Then he coughed lightly and turned his gaze toward the hospital window with unnatural calm.
"Miss Xingluo," he said after several breaths, "using that title so suddenly is extremely unfair to a dead man."
Hearing his answer, Xingluo stared at him for a moment before finally sighing and sitting properly on the bed again.
"Whatever," she said softly, though her voice still sounded a little hoarse. "You really did something ridiculous last night."
Shen Wuxia’s expression became slightly awkward after hearing that, but he wisely chose not to interrupt her immediately.
Xingluo rubbed her forehead lightly, her fingers brushing past the faint star-shaped mark between her brows.
"The alarm made nearly half the city lose sleep, and the matter became even worse because Qin Haoran’s leg was crushed by the emergency door."
Hearing this, Shen Wuxia’s brows moved slightly, yet there was not much surprise in his eyes.
"Everyone present at the banquet was questioned properly afterward," Xingluo continued, glancing toward the hospital window. "The city guards, hotel security, and even several academy representatives arrived."
She paused for a moment before adding with a strange expression, "And from what I heard, the hotel owner has already lost both his position and backing because of that so-called malfunction."
Shen Wuxia gave a quiet sigh after hearing those words.
The emergency lockdown had indeed saved Xingluo, but it had also torn open a matter too large to be buried casually.
More importantly, Qin Haoran had been injured in front of many people, and someone like him would never accept such humiliation silently.
"This was never going to end easily," Shen Wuxia said after a brief silence. "Even now, Qin Haoran will not let you go just because last night failed."
Hearing those words, Xingluo’s fingers tightened slightly against the blanket. A faint trace of fear crossed her eyes, but she quickly lowered her gaze as if trying to hide it.
"What can I even do then?" she asked quietly. "I am only Level 68, and my talent is just C-rank."
Shen Wuxia looked at her for several breaths before his expression became calmer.
"Then the answer is simple," he said. "You become strong enough that people like him cannot casually decide your fate."
Xingluo raised her head and looked at him, but the confusion in her eyes clearly showed that she did not know where to even begin.
Seeing this, Shen Wuxia thought for a moment before speaking again.
"I should have some money left," he said slowly. "Not a little amount either but accessing it will be troublesome in my current state."
Xingluo blinked once, and for a moment even her fear was pushed aside by surprise.
"You have money?" she asked with clear disbelief. "Mister Ghost, you do realize you are dead, right?"
The corner of Shen Wuxia’s mouth twitched faintly after hearing that familiar title again.
"I am aware of my unfortunate condition," he replied dryly. "But before dying, I was still a Tianchen University student and a Level 93 player."
Xingluo’s expression changed slightly after hearing his level again, because that number still sounded unreal compared to her own.
Shen Wuxia continued speaking before she could ask too much about his identity.
"I cannot promise immediate access, but if I can recover even part of what I left behind, your equipment, training resources, and dungeon preparation can all improve."
Xingluo slowly lowered her eyes, and the hesitation on her face became clear.
She needed money for her mother, strength for herself, and now protection from someone far beyond her current reach.
For the first time, the problem before her no longer looked like something she could solve by simply enduring alone.
Shen Wuxia noticed her expression and softened his tone slightly. "Listen carefully, Miss Xingluo. Qin Haoran is dangerous because he has strength, status, money, and people willing to cover his crimes."
He paused for a moment before his gaze turned sharper. "So, we cannot fight him with anger. We need levels, equipment, evidence, and enough ability to survive whatever he sends next."
Xingluo remained silent for several breaths before finally nodding slowly.
Her face was still pale, but the helplessness in her eyes had faded a little. "Then what do we do first?" she asked.
Shen Wuxia looked toward the faint star mark on her forehead, then toward the hospital door outside.
"First, you recover properly," he said. "Then we check what happened after the banquet, what Qin Haoran is saying, and then we have a place to visit."
