Chapter 10: Activation
Shen Wuxia’s eyes flickered faintly as a cold mechanical voice rang through his mind.
[Anchor Trust Level has reached the required threshold.]
[System Activation Progress: 99% → 100%]
[System has been fully activated.]
The broken darkness around his consciousness trembled slightly, and the pain that had nearly torn his soul apart began fading little by little.
[Emergency Soul Stabilization commencing.]
[Soul Stability: 77%]
[Soul Stability: 89%]
[Soul Stability: 100%]
Only after the final number appeared did Shen Wuxia’s scattered thoughts slowly return to order.
His vision cleared afterward, yet what entered his eyes was not the banquet hall, nor the flashing red alarm from before.
There was only darkness in every direction, silent and endless, while a faint blue screen slowly loaded before him.
Shen Wuxia stared at the screen for several breaths before the memories returned one after another.
Qin Haoran leading Xingluo toward the side door, the emergency button sealed behind the Platinum-grade cover, the soul bond dragging him backward, and finally the steel door crashing down with the alarm.
After remembering that final scene, Shen Wuxia quietly released a breath he had not realized he was holding.
Seems it went well.
His expression eased slightly, but that relief did not last long because another notification appeared before him.
[Mission Completed.]
[Anchor Luo Xingluo has been protected from immediate danger.]
[Anchor Trust Level has increased.]
[System Activation Requirement has been fulfilled.]
Seeing those words, Shen Wuxia’s gaze paused for a moment before he gave a faint helpless smile.
So almost getting myself killed again was the correct method. What a great system it is.
Before he could continue mocking it, the blue screen in front of him flickered again.
[SSS-Rank Talent has been awakened.]
[Talent Name: Soul Monarch.]
The moment those words appeared, Shen Wuxia’s entire expression froze.
For a long time, he simply stared at the panel without saying anything, as if his thoughts had stopped moving.
SSS-rank talents were not things ordinary players could even imagine touching.
Across the entire Human Alliance and all of Asterion, the number of currently active SSS-rank talent holders could be counted on one hand.
The Four War Gods stood at humanity’s highest battlefields, while the Human Emperor ruled above them all.
Those five people were living pillars of mankind, each capable of changing the direction of a war simply by appearing.
Yet now, this broken system was telling Shen Wuxia that he had awakened a talent standing on the same level as those monsters.
Before that shock could settle properly, the system panel changed again.
[Current State: Soul Form.]
[Physical Body: Lost.]
[Level: 93.]
[Class: Soul Monarch.]
[Talent One: Maniac.]
[Talent Two: Soul Monarch.]
[Monarch Authority: Level 0.]
Shen Wuxia narrowed his eyes slightly when he saw the final line, but before he could think further, another set of notifications appeared.
[Initial Soul Monarch Skills have been generated.]
[Skill One: Soul Perception.]
[Effect: The host can sense soul fluctuations, emotional hostility, spiritual injuries, and abnormal soul conditions within a limited range.]
[Skill Two: Soul Thread.]
[Effect: The host can release weak soul threads to interfere with nearby objects, unstable souls, and limited physical movement.]
[Warning: Excessive use will reduce Soul Stability.]
[Skill Three: Anchor Link.]
[Effect: The bond between the host and Anchor Luo Xingluo has been stabilized.]
[Effect: Communication efficiency, perception sharing, and soul-distance tolerance will increase according to Anchor Trust Level.]
Seeing this, Shen Wuxia’s expression finally became a little more serious.
The ten-foot restriction had nearly ruined everything earlier, so any increase in distance tolerance was more important than it looked.
If Qin Haoran had walked even a little faster, Shen Wuxia might have failed before reaching the button.
The screen continued flickering afterward, and the final skill slowly appeared before his eyes.
[Skill Four: Soul Extraction.]
[Effect: The host can extract Soul Power and Soul Fragments from defeated monsters, dungeon beasts, awakened enemies, and unstable soul remnants within perception range.]
[Restriction: Extraction efficiency depends on the target’s level, soul quality, and remaining will.]
[Additional Effect: Soul Soldier Awakening.]
[When a soul is fully consumed, willingly submits, or becomes ready to serve, the host may awaken it as a Soul Soldier.]
Before Shen Wuxia could even think about the final skill properly, his gaze first stopped on the number of abilities listed before him.
Four initial skills had appeared the moment Soul Monarch awakened, and that alone was already abnormal beyond common sense.
Even Qin Haoran, who possessed an A-rank talent and stood among the top geniuses of the younger generation, was rumored to have awakened only one initial skill.
Yet Shen Wuxia had received four at once, and every one of them was directly connected to his current soul state.
His eyes finally returned to the last skill, and the words written beneath it made his expression sharpen slightly.
Soul Soldier was not like ordinary summoning, because most summoners relied on contracts, mana beasts, or temporary battlefield constructs.
Necromancers were closer, but even they mostly controlled corpses, bones, shadows, or death energy left behind after life had faded.
Soul Monarch was different, because it did not start from flesh or mana, but from the soul itself.
If Soul Extraction worked as written, then the things serving under him would not be empty puppets or borrowed beasts.
They would be souls that had lost completely, submitted willingly, or been reshaped by his authority after death.
Thinking until here, Shen Wuxia’s expression slowly became more restrained.
This was not the path of an ordinary player, nor was it close to any summoning talent he had seen in Tianchen University.
Then the corner of his mouth lifted slightly as one thought suddenly passed through his mind.
If this keeps growing, does that mean I can really command an army of souls one day?
For a brief moment, countless possibilities appeared in his mind, but before those thoughts could spread too far, the blue panel shifted again.
A separate section opened beneath the skill list, destroying most of his imagination before it could properly form.
[Authority Panel Unlocked.]
[Authority: Soul Monarch.]
[Authority Level: 0.]
[Current Soul Soldier Capacity: 0/100.]
[Soul Power: 0 / 10,000.]
[Method of Growth: Use Soul Extraction to obtain Soul Power from suitable targets.]
[Authority Level will determine skill strength, Soul Soldier capacity, extraction efficiency, and Monarch privileges.]
Seeing the number required for the next level, Shen Wuxia’s mouth twitched slightly.
Ten thousand Soul Power just to move from Level 0 to Level 1.
He did not know how much Soul Power an ordinary monster could provide, but judging by the system’s usual cruelty, it would definitely not be generous.
Still, compared to remaining a useless ghost who could barely push a pencil, this was already far better than nothing.
Shen Wuxia slowly raised his head and looked toward the darkness around him.
Luo Xingluo’s unconscious face appeared inside his mind soon afterward, followed by Qin Haoran’s twisted smile beneath the banquet lights.
His gaze slowly became firmer as the meaning of the Authority Panel settled in his mind.
Soul Power is the key, and Soul Extraction is the only way to obtain it.
But Shen Wuxia could not kill anything by himself in his current state, nor could he freely move beyond Luo Xingluo’s side.
That meant every path forward now passed through her, whether he liked it or not.
If I want to return, she has to become stronger first.
His eyes turned colder as Qin Haoran’s face appeared again inside his memory.
And before that, she needs to survive the trouble already waiting outside.
He understood Qin Haoran was not the type of person to easily let go of his prey, especially after being interrupted so brutally in front of everyone.
Just then a cold chime rang beside Shen Wuxia’s ears and a blue panel appeared before him, its light flickering faintly in the corner of his vision.
[Chain Task Triggered.]
[Chain Task 1/??: Tournament Preparation.]
[Objective: Help Luo Xingluo reach Level 80.]
[Objective: Train Luo Xingluo’s combat skills before the city military tournament.]
[Reward: 5,000 Soul Power.]
[Reward: Soul Soldier Card x1.]
Shen Wuxia’s gaze stopped on the reward for a moment but before he could think too deeply, another line appeared beneath the panel.
[Chain Completion Reward: Physical Body Restoration.]
For several breaths, Shen Wuxia did not move.
So I really can get my body back.
The thought made his fingers curl slightly, but the excitement lasted only a moment before his eyes returned to the task itself.
Level 80 was not impossible, but Xingluo was still Level 68, and her combat foundation was far from stable.
A tournament backed by the city military would not be like Professor Liang’s small classroom test.
There would be academy elites, military trainees, sponsored geniuses, and probably people Qin Haoran could influence from behind the scenes.
The system screen slowly dimmed after displaying the final line, while the darkness around him began rippling faintly.
Shen Wuxia understood that this space was about to collapse and send him back to Luo Xingluo’s side.
