Chapter 415: Only One Thousand
Lying on the ground, three Scorpion Men stared at the scene before them with wide eyes. Their breathing unconsciously slowed.
None of them dared move.
"T-This..." one of them whispered, his voice filled with shock. His body trembled slightly.
For a moment, the others did not respond, their eyes glued to the scene before them. Various expressions flickered across their faces.
Shock.
Disbelief.
"Let’s return," one of them whispered and slowly retreated from the dune.
His voice remained extremely low. He feared the enemy might somehow detect them.
The remaining two immediately nodded. Slowly and carefully, the scouts retreated without making any noise.
Only after climbing down from the dune did they finally breathe out in relief.
Their faces were filled with urgency.
Without exchanging another word, they mounted their Greater Dune Scorpions and urged them to race back.
They needed to report what they had just seen immediately.
Not a single moment could be wasted.
Traveling across the dense dune slopes, the scouts’ movements were fast and swift. Their Greater Dune Scorpions raced effortlessly across the crimson sand.
Sand exploded behind them.
The powerful mounts crossed one dune after another at astonishing speed. Beyond the dunes, the Scorpion Army stood, waiting patiently for the scouts to return.
The soldiers remained in orderly formation.
Standing a couple of feet from the General, the three Commanders wore ugly expressions. They exchanged subtle glances every few moments.
Although none voiced their thoughts, each silently prepared himself for the worst.
Among the soldiers, the atmosphere was odd.
With many scouts sent out and none returning, many expected this mission would not be any different.
Some had already begun believing these three scouts would disappear just like the others.
But then, everyone’s expression changed as they felt the tremors from the ground.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The vibrations rapidly grew stronger.
Patrolling guards standing on each slope were stunned when they saw the figures rushing toward them.
"Dust!"
"Someone is coming!" One guard immediately shouted.
The General looked toward the source of the vibration, his face expressionless.
His sharp eyes narrowed slightly. From around the bend, they saw the three scouts rushing toward them.
For a brief moment, silence fell across the army.
"Eh! They are back."
"They made it back."
"How?"
Soft whispers immediately spread through the ranks. Many soldiers rubbed their eyes, wondering whether they were seeing things.
The three Commanders stepped forward from their positions. Their faces were etched with shock and disbelief.
Many questions ran through their minds.
How did they survive?
The scouts stopped a couple of feet from the General and jumped down from their mounts. Without wasting another second, they hurried toward him and gave a military salute.
"General, we found the enemy," the Scout Captain said, his voice filled with excitement.
His excitement, however, failed to conceal the lingering anticipation in his eyes.
"Two hundred meters from our location, the enemy is hiding."
"They have close to one thousand men," he reported calmly.
Hmm?
The three Commanders were stunned for a moment before their expressions changed. They subconsciously looked at one another.
A force of only one thousand enemies?
How could such a force defeat Kharv and his men? The question echoed repeatedly in their minds.
Is there more to the force than they detected?
Could the enemy be hiding another army behind the dunes?
Even though many questions appeared in their minds, they did not dwell on them too much. The scouts had already confirmed the enemy’s location.
The mystery that had troubled them for so long had finally been solved. Now that they had detected the enemies, they could finally show their force.
The world could finally witness the might of the Scorpion Clan Army. The General turned toward the three Commanders and commanded,
"I want the enemies annihilated with no survivors." His voice echoed across the desert.
There was no hesitation.
"Today, we must march to Mantis Town and reclaim it." His tone was forceful and domineering.
It carried the confidence of someone who had never tasted defeat.
"Yes, General." The Commanders responded in unison.
Their voices were loud and firm.
Their greatest concern had never been fighting the enemy. It had been finding them.
And now, with the enemy found. They could finally unleash the rage that had been boiling within their hearts.
Not only them, but all the Scorpion Soldiers were also boiling with anticipation.
Many grinned fiercely.
Others slammed their weapons against their shields.
Some let out savage roars that echoed across the desert.
In less than a minute, the three Commanders had rallied their battalions and marched deeper into the desert.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The ground trembled.
Dust rose into the sky.
Countless grains of crimson sand exploded beneath their feet. The entire desert seemed to shake beneath the advancing army.
The overwhelming momentum alone was enough to intimidate ordinary opponents. To make sure their enemies did not escape, the three battalions spread out, covering a large area.
Their formation resembled an enormous net.
Anyone trapped inside would find escape nearly impossible.
Watching the scene, the General’s eyes blazed with killing intent. His grip tightened around the hilt of his gigantic saber.
He stared at an army messenger squad and commanded,
"Send a message to the King."
"We have found the enemy, and I shall present their heads very soon." His confidence never wavered.
Victory already seemed certain in his eyes.
"Yes, General." The Messenger Captain nodded before departing quickly.
Without wasting another moment, several messenger riders immediately broke away from the army.
Their Greater Dune Scorpions rushed toward Scorpion City at astonishing speed. With the message sent, the General could finally focus on taking down the enemies.
A cruel smile slowly appeared across his face.
He raised his hand.
Immediately, the elite soldiers behind him tightened their formation.
"Advance!"
With a wave of his hand, he marched forward with his men following closely behind him. The elite guards maintained a disciplined pace.
Their dark crimson armor gleamed beneath the light of the three moons.
Unknown to the General, the three Commanders, and the entire Scorpion Army. They failed to notice the undead Echo Scarabs flying high in the sky.
Their tiny bodies blended perfectly with the crimson heavens. They observed every movement of the Scorpion Army.
Far away beyond the dunes.
Everything the Scorpion Army did was already being transmitted to Thoren through the mental connection.
Not a single movement escaped his eyes.
