"Are you okay?"
Lin Ye asked with some concern.
After materializing, Little Guardian looked incredibly fragile.
"I'm hungry."
Little Guardian glanced at the egg-shaped objects in the vehicle; she just wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.
"Here."
Lin Ye handed his spare emergency food to Little Guardian, then pulled her away from the prison transport vehicle.
The egg-shaped objects inside were trembling slightly, with cracks opening at their tops.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang...
Just as Lin Ye was about to pull Little Guardian back, he suddenly heard intense gunfire in the distance.
A massive wave of bizarre, dark-green monsters surged into the stairwell entrance. Some of these monsters resembled ones he had seen before, like those with spider and long worm features.
Lin Ye pulled Little Guardian into the shadows of the 'cave,' but those dark-green monsters had already blocked their escape route. If they were discovered now, they would be cornered in a dead end of the underground parking lot.
The number of monsters was even greater than Lin Ye had anticipated. Some were dragging unconscious creatures toward the prison transport vehicle.
Lin Ye suddenly turned his head toward the prison transport vehicle. Several beige-yellow larvae, somewhat resembling scorpions, were scuttling rapidly toward them.
'This is going to be a problem...'
Lin Ye sighed. The nearest larvae had already closed to within ten meters of them. He had no choice but to raise his Rifle and mow them down.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!
The gunfire alerted every monster in the underground parking lot, and they all converged on the source of the sound.
"Hold on tight. Don't move."
Considering Little Guardian's physical strength, Lin Ye hoisted her over his shoulder like a sack of flour.
Little Guardian obediently lay across his shoulder without struggling.
Lin Ye sprinted toward the prison transport vehicle at top speed while firing at the monsters closing in. His bullets precisely struck each monster's head, and they fell in droves, but even more were gathering toward them.
Soon, Lin Ye emptied the Rifle's magazine. Fortunately, he had three spare magazines on him. While swapping magazines, he switched to his pistol to shoot any approaching monsters.
After killing all the monsters blocking his path, Lin Ye carried Little Guardian and charged onto the prison transport vehicle. A swarm of larvae burst out from between the seats, lunging at their heads.
Before boarding, Lin Ye had anticipated this. He backed up while using the Rifle for precise shots, quickly killing all the larvae that had burst out.
The reason for his caution was that the larvae's internal fluids were somewhat corrosive. He was worried the bodily fluids might damage the prison transport vehicle.
After clearing the nearby larvae, Lin Ye used his Rifle to shoot through the unhatched egg-shaped objects. Then, he started the prison transport vehicle just before the monsters could reach him.
"Watch out!"
Little Guardian spotted several larvae darting out from under the seats, lunging at their heads.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!
Lin Ye spun the steering wheel with one hand while pulling out his pistol with the other to fire behind him. Every bullet knocked a larva flying.
He didn't even need to turn his head; he could track the larvae's movement trajectories through the rearview mirror.
Countless monsters of all shapes and sizes charged at the prison transport vehicle, but Lin Ye had no intention of stopping. He floored the accelerator, directly plowing through the monsters blocking his path.
The prison transport vehicle was built to high quality standards. Though the monsters' corrosive acid had eaten through parts of it, creating gaps, these didn't affect its operation. Under Lin Ye's control, the vehicle's power system remained undamaged.
Lin Ye fired at the monsters that leaped onto the roof. Some of their tails could pierce the steel panels, and combined with that corrosive fluid, if he didn't act quickly, the prison transport vehicle would be torn apart by these monsters soon, leaving them trapped in a horde.
The prison transport vehicle rammed wildly through the underground parking lot. If anyone else had been driving, it would have been wrecked long ago, but as a Veteran Driver, Lin Ye wouldn't let that happen.
By leveraging the terrain, Lin Ye drove the prison transport vehicle forcefully out of the underground parking lot and into a ramp leading to the surface.
Some monsters were blocking the ramp, trying to flip the vehicle over. But even while climbing the slope, Lin Ye didn't slow down. He stuck his Rifle out the window and sprayed bullets at the monsters in front.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang...
Thirty rounds were evenly distributed among every monster near the prison transport vehicle. The vehicle crushed the monsters' corpses beneath its wheels as it climbed, and soon they burst out of the ramp, reaching the surface.
The prison gate was right near the exit. If Lin Ye wanted to make a run for it, he only needed to turn the steering wheel to leave the prison.
But Lin Ye didn't do that. He had no idea what the situation outside was like, and he wasn't about to abandon the survivors and flee alone.
A massive horde of monsters chased the prison transport vehicle out of the ramp. Lin Ye drove straight toward the prison cafeteria. He was running low on bullets and needed to restock at the cafeteria.
Soon, the prison transport vehicle pulled up near the back kitchen window of the cafeteria. Lin Ye jumped out, carrying Little Guardian over his shoulder, firing behind him as he ran.
Though the mist affected visibility, the monsters left traces as they moved through it. Lin Ye could track their movement paths by those traces.
"What's going on? Where are the others?"
Jeffrey saw Lin Ye and hurriedly climbed out the window with a Rifle.
"They're still on the stairs! Tell the people inside to prepare a Rifle for me! No, bring me that light machine gun!"
Lin Ye grabbed Jeffrey's Rifle and started firing at the monsters in the mist.
Soon, the survivors in the Kitchen brought Lin Ye the only light machine gun in the storage room, along with several ammunition belts.
Lin Ye began spraying with the light machine gun, slowly moving forward at the same time.
Without the power of Fear, Lin Ye wouldn't dare fire this way—his body simply couldn't handle it.
For that, he had to thank that Dreamrealm creature.
Lin Ye quickly emptied one ammunition belt. The ground was littered with monster corpses, and the air was thick with the acrid smell of acid corroding the floor.
"Follow me! We're going down to clear out those monsters!"
Lin Ye led Jeffrey straight to the prison transport vehicle. This time, Jeffrey was driving while Lin Ye stuck the machine gun out the window, shooting at the fleeing monsters.
Jeffrey drove the prison transport vehicle into the underground parking lot. Lin Ye opened both side windows, continuously firing at the monsters hiding in the caves.
If they wanted to escape the city tomorrow, they had to clean this place out now.
Lin Ye's marksmanship was impeccable. The monsters darting around couldn't dodge his bullets. The machine gun's ammunition belts were long; as long as he had ammo, he could kill every monster here.
But unfortunately, as the monsters trying to approach the prison transport vehicle were gunned down by Lin Ye, the survivors began to flee toward the exit of the underground parking lot.
