Chapter 42: Chapter 42: [Data Chip (White)]

A guess formed in Ye Yun’s mind.

The second danger was likely also related to mutant creatures.

This time, the enemy probably wouldn’t be weak mutant cockroaches, but a powerful mutant creature instead.

However, he quickly dismissed this theory.

’The timing is off.’

There were still seven days left before the 10-day deadline. Logically, it shouldn’t erupt so soon.

Still, Ye Yun didn’t think the appearance of a powerful mutant creature near the shelter was a mere coincidence.

But there were too few clues at the moment; any more guessing was just baseless speculation.

The matter of the bionoids, however, needed to be addressed as soon as possible.

An average attribute score of only three was just too low. He hadn’t thought it was a big deal before.

But compared to the average human in the wasteland, they were far too weak. They couldn’t even equip slightly better gear.

Anyone who had played games knew that equipment was a crucial part of combat power. A good set of gear could even decide the outcome of a battle.

If he couldn’t raise the bionoids’ attributes, their usefulness would only continue to shrink.

Ye Yun opened the private chat room.

Ye Yun:

[Brothers, does anyone know how to raise a bionoid’s attribute values?]

As soon as Ye Yun’s question appeared, someone piped up.

[I wanted to ask you the same thing, Brother Ye. I can’t believe even you don’t know.]

[My bionoids are still using white-rarity equipment. I want to raise their attributes too.]

[Instead of upgrading bionoids, you should figure out how to find other wasteland survivors. I feel like besides needing food and water, survivors are better than bionoids in every other way.]

[Brother Jie is right. The two new members in my shelter have average attributes of 5-6. With the effort it takes to upgrade bionoids, you’re better off just finding a few new humans.]

[I heard someone mention this in the public chat room. I think it requires some kind of chip? The chat was moving too fast, so I only glanced at it.]

[If you want to raise a bionoid’s attributes, you can use this: [Data Chip (White)].]

...

Ye Yun was surprised that someone actually knew.

He quickly inspected the item’s details.

[Data Chip (White)]

[Description: A special chip used to upgrade bionoids.]

[Effect: Randomly increases one attribute by 1 point upon use.]

[Restriction: Cannot be used on a target with an attribute value of 4 or higher.]

Ye Yun immediately clicked on the other person’s profile and got straight to the point.

[Are you interested in selling that [Data Chip (White)] you have?]

The person replied instantly:

[If it were anyone else, I’d definitely say no. But since it’s you asking, Brother Ye, I’m willing to sell. The only thing is, what are you planning to trade for it, Brother Ye?]

Ye Yun thought for a moment:

[How about one green component?]

Seeing Ye Yun’s offer, Zhang Wang frowned slightly.

He wasn’t very satisfied with this price. He even grumbled to himself. ’I don’t know how many resources Brother Ye has, but he’s been selling tons of finished equipment and items. His profits must be huge.’

[Brother Ye, isn’t that price a little too low?]

Ye Yun:

[On the market right now, even white-rarity items like equipment and armor only cost about 100 white components.]

Zhang Wang:

[Brother Ye, that’s true for common white-rarity items, but this is a rare one. A price of one green component is really too low.]

Ye Yun frowned slightly. The guy had a point; he had never seen this item on the Exchange before.

Ye Yun:

[Then name your price.]

Zhang Wang:

[One piece of green-rarity armor. Anything with a defense value over 10 will do.]

Ye Yun’s frown deepened.

A piece of green-rarity armor with 10 defense had a market price of around 200 to 210 white components. The guy had just doubled the price.

He did a quick calculation. One data chip could raise an attribute by one point.

To raise all seven of a bionoid’s attributes to four, he would need seven chips, which would cost 1,400 to 1,500 white components.

That was a steep price.

With his current savings, getting both bionoids’ attributes up to four would require 30 green components.

After calculating the cost, the corner of Ye Yun’s mouth twitched.

He did want to improve his two bionoids’ attributes, but he wasn’t willing to empty his entire stash to do it.

Ye Yun: [The price is too high. Let’s just forget it. Sorry to bother you.]

Seeing the rejection, Zhang Wang’s heart skipped a beat. ’Did I ask for too much?’

’Impossible. He’s so rich, why would he care about such a small amount?’

’That’s right. Ye Yun must be saying that on purpose, just to drive the price down.’

’As long as I ignore him, he’ll definitely come back to me.’

However, twenty minutes passed, and no new message appeared in the chat window.

Zhang Wang sucked in a sharp breath. He finally sensed that something was wrong.

’Did I really ask for too much and now I’m stuck with this thing?’

His line of thinking was the same as many others: bionoids had attributes that were just too low.

Their starting attribute was only 3. They were probably just meant to help shelters get through the early stages smoothly.

In the later stages, you would most likely need to rely on recruiting more wasteland survivors to expand your shelter’s strength.

Everyone’s resources were stretched thin. Not only did they have to upgrade their shelters, but they also had to strengthen their members.

In Zhang Wang’s view, it was better to save those resources to buy more powerful equipment and items for new shelter members rather than waste them on upgrading bionoids.

Zhang Wang began to reconsider his judgment. He realized he had probably overestimated the [Data Chip (White)]’s value to Ye Yun.

He had initially assumed Ye Yun was dead set on getting the data chip, but now it was clear that wasn’t the case.

Zhang Wang didn’t want to lose this opportunity to trade, either.

He quickly sent a message in the chat room:

[Brother Ye, my bad. I lost my head and just threw out a random price. Please be the bigger person and don’t mind me.]

[How about this? I have two [Data Chip (White)]. I’ll trade both for one piece of green-rarity armor with 12 defense. What do you think?]

Ye Yun hadn’t actually given up on the [Data Chip (White)].

He had just thought the price was too high before.

Seeing the new offer, Ye Yun’s interest was piqued.

He opened the Exchange and glanced at it.

Green-rarity armor with 12 defense was priced at 250 white components.

By that calculation, the price of one [Data Chip (White)] was 125 white components.

Considering the item’s scarcity, a 20% premium was something Ye Yun could accept.

At this rate, it would take about 18 green components to raise the stats of Number 1 and Number 2 to 4. While the cost was a bit high, it was still within his acceptable range.

Ye Yun: [Deal.]

Ye Yun decisively bought a piece of green-rarity armor with 12 defense from the Exchange and then sent a trade request to the other party.
