Chapter 184: Chapter 124: A Sudden Start to War

[Private Chat]

[I Am The Protagonist]: You’re the Undead City Lord?

[Don’t Want to Get a Driver’s License]: Yeah.

[I Am The Protagonist]: Allow me to introduce myself. I am the Jackal Wolfman Controller, the Wilderness Raider, the great Transmigrator, Benjamin Mac.

Li Ziyu fell silent as he read the message. He scratched his head, then his face. A tingling sensation ran through his body, and he couldn’t help but shiver. ’What the hell is with this cringey, medieval-fantasy-movie-style introduction?!’

’Is this just a habit of his, or is he unleashing his inner edgelord because we’re not face-to-face?’

Come to think of it, this style of introduction was pretty common in Western movies from his past life. They always tried to sound so impressive. The titles were usually about their bloodline or their great deeds. They’d start with a round of self-praise to try and intimidate you before getting down to business. ’But for a fellow Transmigrator from the modern era, you’re taking it too far. Are you trying to assassinate me with pure cringe?!’

’Damn it, you bastard!’

’However, an introduction like that just had to go and trigger my competitive spirit.’

[Don’t Want to Get a Driver’s License]: Let me introduce myself as well. I am of the Eastern lineage, a descendant of the Flame and Yellow Emperors, heir to the Ancient Kingdoms, a fine youth raised under the red flag, Controller of the Undead, Master of Skulls, Lord of Ghosts, Master of Minotaurs, a Transmigrator Lord, Ziyu Li.

’You want titles? Fine, let’s make some up. Who’s afraid of who here!’

’Die!’

Li Ziyu’s tactic was a success. Benjamin was dizzy just looking at the long, messy string of titles. It felt a little surreal, as if he’d met a kindred spirit. The main point was, he couldn’t even refute them. Every single one was damn well justified!

How could he argue with the first few? The guy’s homeland truly had that history. One of the Four Great Ancient Civilizations—that wasn’t a joke. It was completely accurate. As for the later titles like "Controller of the Undead," those also seemed correct. After all, he was an Undead City Lord; that was his Race.

The only one that might be questionable was "Master of Minotaurs." ’Do the Undead even have Minotaurs?’

Feeling his momentum had been crushed, Benjamin was at a loss for words. He fell into deep thought, and only after a long while did he send another message.

[I Am The Protagonist]: We don’t have any deep-seated hatred for each other. There’s no need to go to war.

[Don’t Want to Get a Driver’s License]: You say that as if I’m the one who drove my fortress right up to your face.

[I Am The Protagonist]: A fight that leaves us both crippled benefits neither of us. Why don’t we find a peaceful way to resolve this conflict?

[Don’t Want to Get a Driver’s License]: And what do you call a "peaceful way"?

[I Am The Protagonist]: As long as you’re willing to part with some insignificant resources, I’ll leave immediately. Wouldn’t that be very peaceful?

’Hah! I spit on that!’

’The absolute nerve! You park your fortress on my doorstep and then tell me to pay you to leave? What is this, you give him an inch and he takes a mile? Are you trying to push me around?’

’And you act like you’re being generous.’

Benjamin’s words reminded Li Ziyu of the humiliating history of invasions his country had suffered. A fire ignited in his heart.

’If he hadn’t said that, there might have been room for negotiation. But now that he has, there’s nothing to talk about!’

Whenever he studied history, Li Ziyu would get a bitter taste in his mouth. He always wondered, ’Why were we the ones being bullied? We didn’t go around bullying others, so why were those bastards always trying to fleece us? And not just fleece us—they’d take an inch and demand a mile, wanting to devour the whole damn sheep!’

’How is this Benjamin Mac any different from those invaders of the past?’

To Li Ziyu, there was no difference at all!

In all of history, the dynasty Li Ziyu admired most was the Great Ming Dynasty. It came to power more legitimately than any other, and its ancestral edicts were so domineering, so inspiring!

No marriage alliances, no reparations, no ceding territory, no paying tribute! The Son of Heaven guards the nation’s gates; the Monarch dies with his state!

’If you dare to provoke me, there’s no need for words. We fight!’

’Looks like today I’ll have to take a page from Emperor Yongle’s book. Even though I’m no longer in my old world, even as a Transmigrator, I still consider myself a descendant of the Flame and Yellow Emperors. I will not let Benjamin Mac walk all over me and demand tribute. This means war!’

[Don’t Want to Get a Driver’s License]: Yongle Zhu Di sends his regards.

’I’ve had enough of the arrogant. I’ve had enough of the self-righteous. I’ve had enough of kindness being mistaken for weakness, and I’ve had enough of using so-called reason to talk myself down!’

’So, I’m done holding back!’

Li Ziyu lowered his head, the fire in his heart flaring, spreading through his veins. He lifted his head, opened his mouth, and stared at the Jackal Wolfman Mobile Fortress. Something seemed to explode in his mind. Spreading his arms wide, he roared with all his might, "To war!"

The Undead, who had been standing silent as statues, were roused at that moment. They all raised their heads, feeling their City Lord’s emotions. Even suppressed by the sunlight, the Soul Fire within their skulls blazed fiercely. The battle lust welling up inside them was like kindling, igniting their very souls.

KR-R-RUNCH!

The Undead Fortress slowly rumbled to life, then steadily accelerated, charging straight for the Jackal Wolfman Mobile Fortress.

Percy, still holding his spyglass, felt a sense of dread the moment the Undead Fortress began to move. When he saw it continuously pick up speed, bearing down on them like a mountain, he panicked. He scrambled down from the platform, shouting at the top of his lungs, "They’re coming! They’re charging right at us!"

Benjamin, sitting inside his fortress, frowned at the message in the system, perplexed. He still hadn’t figured out who this Yongle Zhu Di was or what Li Ziyu had meant by that line when he heard Percy’s terrified shouts.
