Chapter 313: The Superhuman Guild’s Base

Back inside the shelter, Kai’s eyes swept across the battlefield...

The mortars had done their work, but Codebreakers Shelter wasn’t relying on artillery alone. They had fighters... They were survivors who had experienced numerous battles at this point, each with Gene Skills that made them stand out.

Alfie, the Gladiator, was already preparing to move out, his combat style built for melee clashes, so he would be supported by several more Survivors.

There was Ralph, with his Sharpshooter Talent, who had taken position on the upper walls. At this time, he was the one making the most killing thanks to his Ruger Mini Rifle purchased from the Auction House. His precise shots were cutting down mutants who dared to expose themselves.

Sera and Althea, each wielding low‑grade Gene Weapons, stood ready to reinforce the lines behind Alfie...

Aside from them, Wallace, clad in full body armor from the Auction House, was a walking fortress, his layered Gene Skills making him nearly impervious to small arms fire.

And beyond the human fighters, Codebreakers Shelter had its machines.

A dozen X‑Series Sentinels patrolled the perimeter, with their mechanical bodies equipped with many weapons.

Renji’s two androids also coordinated really well, covering blind spots and coordinating with the defenders.

Finally, there was Kai’s trump card... the S‑Grade Sentinel, Black Atom.

The machine stayed at the center of the shelter just in case Digger Units could somehow pass through their defenses and destroy their inside...

For now, Kai had deliberately kept it inactive. Black Atom’s energy consumption was immense, and its destructive potential was meant for battles against S‑Grade Machines, A‑Grade machines, or high‑level survivors above Level 50.

To unleash it now against Wilfred’s force would be wasteful.

Kai couldn’t waste Black Atom’s energy reserve and would only move it when absolutely necessary.

"Do not worry about the bullets! Just use them all of needed! No need to fight in close quarters unless we’re forced to!"

Indeed, unlike many other shelters that these mutants attacked before, they were not worried about the ammunition consumption at all.

With Kai’s Infinite Gift Pack Talent, he was able to produce all the ammunition except for the mortars.

"Yes, Sir!"

"We’ll not let them set foot in our shelter!"

"Defend our home!"

Just like that, the battle raged on.

The mutants did their best to defend using various Gene Skills, hoping that the bombardment and the firing of rifles would stop after a few minutes...

However, it wasn’t happening at all!

"What is going on?!"

"How are they not running out of ammo!"

"They should be stopping soon! Don’t give up!"

But as they tried to advance, the traps, mortars, and defenders tore through their ranks. Twenty of them fell, their grotesque bodies burning in the trenches or shattered by shrapnel.

The survivors tried to regroup, but when they reached the gates, they were met with something unexpected... a force field barrier.

"What?!"

"This..."

Bullets, plasma bursts, even javelins bounced harmlessly off the wall of energy. The mutants roared in frustration, hammering against it with weapons and claws, but nothing broke through.

Wilfred’s four‑eyed lieutenant shouted, "Commander, we can’t breach it!"

Wilfred frowned as he was also unsure if they could break it. He had expected resistance, but not this. The shelter was protected by technology far beyond what his guild had seen.

"Retreat!" he shouted. "Fall back!"

The order rippled through the ranks.

Soon, the mutants disengaged, dragging wounded comrades as they fled into the night.

But retreat was costly. Mortar shells continued to fall, snipers picked off stragglers, and the Sentinels advanced to cut down those who lingered.

By the time the chaos settled, only thirty mutants escaped safely. Half of them had been eliminated!

Kai watched them scatter across the dark fields.

His expression hardened. "They dared to attack us at night. If we let them go, they’ll return with more. We can’t allow that."

He turned to his officers. "We kill them all."

Alfie slammed his gauntlet against his chest. "Then let me lead the charge."

Ralph adjusted his rifle. "I’ll join the chase."

Sera and Althea exchanged a glance as they considered it as well. "We’ll cut off their escape routes. I think they’re headed to the valley."

Wallace’s armored body moved. He wasn’t really able to fight. He wanted the Mutants to reach the walls, but unfortunately, they were too weak to do so.

"I already used a Gene Stimulant. I thought we’d have a huge fight. I want to chase them. I have the Movement Gene Skill with me! I’ll hold the front line."

Kai nodded. "The X‑Series Sentinels will stay to defend the shelter... Renji, stay here with your androids. Mei, take your scouts and check the surroundings. There could be others lurking in the shadows."

Kai then paused for a moment as he looked at Alfie, Ralph, Wallace, Sera, and Althea...

"All of you, let’s use the Dragoons."

"Ahh! That’s right!"

Sera’s eyes lit up, recalling the Dragoons... the modified flying vessels that resembled oversized jet skis.

They were once used by the A.I. Army, but they had been converted into machines humans could pilot.

Each Dragoon carried one driver and one passenger, making them perfect for rapid pursuit.

"Yes! We still have those in the warehouse!" Alfie exclaimed.

Kai nodded. "I stored some of them in my System Inventory. Let’s go!"

Moments later, three Dragoons were activated... Their thrusters ignited as they lifted off.

Six fighters mounted the machines... Kai himself, Alfie, Ralph, Sera, Althea, and Wallace were soaring into the night sky to chase down the retreating mutants.

The pursuit was fast...

The Dragoons skimmed above the treetops, firing their rifles...

At first, the attacks seemed sloppy, deliberately slow, as if missing their targets. But it was a calculated tactic... The mutants were being herded, funneled into open ground.

Sure enough, one by one, they fell. Eight more were eliminated before the survivors realized the trap.

Then Kai’s eyes widened.

Ahead, deep in the forest, was the Superhuman Guild’s base.

"We’re close to their base now! Be careful!"

As he said this, everyone noticed the dozens of tree houses connected by rope bridges!

"This is their base?!" Ralph was shocked as he steered the Dragoon.

Suddenly, gunfire and plasma bolts were fired from the tree houses.

The Guild had defenses ready, forcing the Dragoons to climb higher, retreat, or weave evasively through the barrage!

"Retreat!" Kai ordered as he knew that the six of them couldn’t deal with the whole Superhuman Guild!
