Chapter 312: The Mutants and the New Weapons

Wilfred, commander of the Superhuman Guild, marched at the head of his squad as he carried the Signal Jammer in his hand.

This Jammer allowed them to move undetected by even C-Grade units of the A.I. Army.

Unlike ordinary survivors, the guild he belonged to had gained access to rare Special Gene Enhancement Serums... concoctions that didn’t just strengthen the body, but warped it into something monstrous.

Their mutations were varied...

Some bore four arms, able to wield multiple weapons at once.

Others had four eyes, glowing faintly in the dark, granting them incredible perception.

A few had mouths in their palms, able to bite or consume directly during combat.

One even had a massive jaw that could swallow a human whole.

Still, there were other mutations like having double knee joints or double elbows, twisting their limbs unnaturally.

Right, there were even those with spines protruding like spiky armor, or tails tipped with bone blades.

None of them cared about their appearance anymore.

In this apocalypse, survival outweighed vanity. And survival was exactly what these mutations offered.

One of the greatest benefits was their altered physiology... their satiety was extraordinary. They only needed to eat once a week, freeing them from the constant hunger that plagued ordinary survivors.

But tonight, survival wasn’t their only goal.

Wilfred had come for vengeance.

"Wait for me, brother... I’ll avenge your death."

Apparently, Aaron, one of their recruiters, had been killed while attempting to bring new members into the guild.

Whether the shelter ahead was responsible or not didn’t matter. The Superhuman Guild needed blood to ease its rage, and this survivor base was the perfect target.

Wilfred raised his hand, his four‑eyed lieutenant then stepped closer...

"We’ll raid the place. If they resist, we’ll tear it apart. If they surrender, we’ll take their supplies. Either way, Aaron’s death will be answered."

"Yes, Sir!"

The mutants behind him looked so excited. Soon, flexed their warped bodies, eager for violence.

Soon, the dark outline of a shelter came into view. Torches or perhaps emergency lights could be seen faintly along its perimeter, and Wilfred’s lips curled into a cruel smile.

"Perfect," he muttered. "They won’t even know what hit them."

None of them realized yet that the shelter they were about to assault was Codebreakers Shelter...

As soon as Wilfred’s squad advanced, the mutants brought out their weapons.

About thirty of them carried revolvers, their crude but reliable firearms...

Others hefted plasma rifles, the rare weapons were even humming with stored energy. The rest had to rely on javelins for long‑range attacks, and swords and shields for close combat.

They moved quickly, their twisted bodies shifting unnaturally as they closed the distance. The shelter’s defenders had already noticed them... several moved along the walls, and the faint glint of scopes revealed that snipers were in position.

"Release the Bomber Drones!"

Wilfred’s men released a swarm of drones, each carrying small explosive charges meant to obliterate the gates. The buzzing machines darted forward, but before they could reach their target, sharp sound echoed across the night.

One by one, the drones were shot down mid‑air, their payloads detonating harmlessly outside the perimeter.

"Snipers," Wilfred frowned while his four‑eyed lieutenant confirmed with a nod.

The mutants didn’t stop however...

A group carrying tower shields surged forward, their limbs bracing behind the heavy slabs of reinforced steel.

With their defensive gear and mutation‑enhanced resilience, they pressed on, determined to reach the shelter’s walls.

Behind them, the revolver‑wielders fired sporadic shots to suppress the defenders, while the plasma rifle carriers prepared to unleash devastating bursts once they had a clear line of sight.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The clash was inevitable. The Codebreakers Shelter had spotted them early, but Wilfred’s force was quick!

With shields raised and weapons ready, the mutants advanced step by step!

However, the defenders of Codebreakers Shelter had prepared for this moment.

Snap!

The first trap triggered... a line of concealed wooden barricades swung down from hidden hinges, slamming into the advancing shield‑bearers.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The impact staggered several mutants, forcing them to break formation.

Crunch!

Moments later, a series of spike pits opened beneath their feet.

"Aack!"

"Shit! It’s filled with traps!"

"Careful, everyone!"

Covered with thin planks and dirt, the traps gave way under the weight of the charging mutants. Screams erupted as bodies fell onto sharpened stakes, impaling those unlucky enough to be caught.

Wilfred roared as the four‑eyed lieutenant giving orders to regroup. But the defenders weren’t finished. From the walls, survivors triggered another mechanism... rolling log traps, even massive beams, were released from hidden ramps. They thundered down the slope, smashing into the mutants’ front line and scattering them like ragdolls.

Then came the most devastating blow... oil‑fire trenches ignited along the perimeter. Flames roared to life, cutting off the direct path to the gates.

"Aack!"

"It hurts!"

The mutants were forced to slow their advance, their shields barely holding against the sudden inferno.

"Push forward!" Wilfred roared as the attack stopped..

His voice carried over the chaos. His men obeyed, but their momentum was broken. The traps had done their work... the assault line was fractured, their numbers thinned, and their confidence shaken.

And just as they tried to regroup, the defenders unleashed their countermeasure. Bombardment began. Mortar‑like launchers hidden within the shelter fired volleys of explosive shells, raining down on the mutants.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Each detonation tore through their ranks, sending shockwaves across the battlefield!

The night lit up with fire and gunfire, the clash between the Superhuman Guild and Codebreakers Shelter fully underway!

Back inside the shelter, Kai stood on the observation platform, watching the mortar crews at work.

Two survivors operated each launcher, and they were all quite slow because they were new weapons from the Auction Realm, but it didn’t matter.

One of them was in charge of loading shells. The next one was focusing on adjusting the angle and firing it...

The thunderous blasts shook the ground, and each explosion outside lit up the night as mutants were thrown into disarray...

Box after box of ammunition was consumed.

However, against sixty mutants who were Level 20 at most, it was all necessary!

’We don’t know what kind of Gene Skills they possess... Better to end them while they’re still at a distance.’
