Chapter 408. Suppressed, Wounded for the First Time, A Wisp of Purple Light

When the black dragon had appeared, Jiang Ningxian was worried. Once the two began fighting and Lu Yuan took control of the battle, she gradually relaxed, thinking the outcome would be the same as always.

The entire thing had unfolded exactly as she had expected. Even a being as ancient as the black dragon, one that had lived for an unfathomable span of time, was outmatched. It even went all-out, but Lu Yuan still restrained it.

Hence, Jiang Ningxian had never once considered the possibility that Lu Yuan would lose or be hurt.

As a result, the sight before her left her reeling in shock. She truly hadn't anticipated that a single drop of black blood would contain a power so terrifying that even Lu Yuan couldn't stop it.

She wasn't the only one; Yinglong was equally shocked. However, the most shocked of everyone present was Lu Yuan himself. He could feel it. That drop of black blood was truly bizarre.

He had deployed everything to stop it from reaching him, but it was useless. Once it entered him, two entirely opposing forces began rampaging inside him. One moment, he burned as if he were in the midst of an inferno, but the next moment, he would feel as though he had plunged into the depths of a frozen abyss.

He deployed the Heaven-Earth Furnace and every technique at his disposal, but none of them made any difference. He had never experienced anything like this. It was like his soul and his body were being attacked simultaneously.

"Cough! Cough! Cough!"

Another wave of discomfort hit him, sending Lu Yuan into a fit of harsh coughing. The power inside him had become completely inaccessible; he couldn't do anything about it.

"Lu Yuan, are you okay?" Jiang Ningxian rushed to his side, looking frantic. She pushed her own power into him to examine his condition and find the source of the problem, but to her dismay, it was useless.

Lu Yuan was like a bottomless void. Her power couldn't make contact with anything.

"It's useless. That was my final trump card. It doesn't matter who comes here to help him; all they can do is watch," the black dragon remarked. It was still in its human form, but it looked different now. Its figure had withered to the absolute extreme.

The flame of its life flickered constantly, and it seemed to be teetering on the edge of demise. It seemed that forcing out that drop of black blood had taken a toll on it as well. Otherwise, it wouldn't be in this state.

"What did you do to him?" asked Jiang Ningxian in a voice laced with thick killing intent. Her razor-sharp gaze settled on the black dragon. She knew Lu Yuan was in serious danger; she had to do something to help him.

"That's not important. What matters is that he's about to become my food. And so are you." The black dragon's eyes gleamed with greed. Even in its state, it still had formidable power. Neither Jiang Ningxian nor Yinglong was its math.

"Both of you, step back. Leave the rest to me," Lu Yuan said. His power was being restrained by the drop of black blood, but he could still draw on a portion of it.

What concerned him was the possibility that Yinglong and Jiang Ningxian could be in danger during the fight, so he rose to his feet and forced himself upright.

"Your will is impressive, I'll give you that. To temporarily resist that blood and still maintain consciousness is no small feat," the black dragon remarked, sounding unconcerned. "But how long do you think you can keep that up?"

The black dragon couldn't care less about what Lu Yuan was trying to do. It believed that Lu Yuan was doomed the moment its technique struck true. The price it had paid was enormous, but what so what? At this point, survival was all that mattered. After all, only by staying alive could it accomplish anything.

"Don't say anything," Jiang Ningxian said. Her killing intent grew denser as she said, "The black dragon is in a bad condition as well. If I become an Immortal, I might be able to kill it."

Jiang Ningxian's exceedingly deep foundations meant that she could force a breakthrough to reach the Immortal Realm. The only reason she hadn't done so was the Separation of Heaven and Earth.

Now that Lu Yuan was in danger, and they were facing a black dragon capable of displaying strength on the same level as an Immortal. Jiang Ningxian knew that even if it meant taking a risk, she had no other choice but to force a breakthrough.

"This isn't the right time," Lu Yuan said. Then, without waiting for her answer, he took a single step forward and vanished, reappearing before the black dragon.

He threw another punch. Lu Yuan had already assessed his opponent. The black dragon had been imprisoned for countless years, and it had paid a huge price to force out that bizarre drop of black blood.

Under these conditions, turning the fight around was possible. He just had to kill the black dragon, and he would be able to deal with anything afterward. That drop of black blood was a problem, but there had to be a way to handle it.

"You actually still dare to fight?" The black dragon was stunned, then it sneered. How long could Lu Yuan maintain his resistance? The black dragon responded with an attack of its own. It was weakened, but so was Lu Yuan.

Moreover, the drop of black blood was still inside Lu Yuan, so the black dragon believed that the last laugh definitely belonged to it.

Boom!

A violent explosion echoed throughout the entire Dragon Penitentiary, as the battle raged on once more, though it lacked the ferocity of before.

As time passed, Lu Yuan noticed that the drop of black blood inside him was growing stronger, while he was becoming weaker and weaker.

Bang!

A loud noise echoed as Lu Yuan was sent skidding backward upon receiving the black dragon's attack. Lu Yuan was faltering, not because he was weak. The drop of black blood inside him was just too bizarre. It seemed to be an otherworldly power capable of restraining every ounce of energy in him, making it nearly impossible for him to draw out his power.

Bang!

The black dragon's punch struck Lu Yuan once again, and a thread of blood spilled from the corner of the latter's mouth as he staggered backward.

"I am not at my peak, but you've been hit by my strongest technique. You actually think you can turn this around? How delusional. Just give up. It is your honor to become my food," the black dragon remarked. Its condition was equally poor, but it had the upper hand in this fight.

It turned to face Lu Yuan and began walking toward him step by step while slowly reverting to its massive dragon form. A savage, merciless aura erupted from it. Just as it had said, it was about to devour Lu Yuan.

"Don't you dare!" Jiang Ningxian roared and appeared directly in front of Lu Yuan.

Swoosh!

Yinglong rushed forward from the side and transformed into its dragon form as well. In its mind, it was the one who had brought the two of them here, and this was happening inside the Eastern Sea Dragon Palace. As such, if anything were to go wrong, the blame would fall squarely on its shoulders.

Hence, Yinglong decisively made a move in this critical juncture.

"Hmph. You're overestimating yourselves!" The black dragon didn't take them seriously. It roared, and waves of terrifying energy burst out of it as it was about to deal the finishing blow to Lu Yuan.

Just then, a wisp of purple light seeped out of Lu Yuan right before everyone's eyes.
