Chapter 548: Chapter 548: Lucian’s Call

Every single time, Lucian pointed out all the loopholes in his plans, leaving him completely speechless. As he recalled those memories, a laugh escaped his lips.

"You know, there was one time when he even installed cameras. Cameras six and two directly exposed everything. He live-streamed the entire process of how that fake heir was planning to get Lucian disowned. When the livestream went viral, it caused quite a stir."

Lana’s eyes twinkled with admiration.

"The entire internet was talking about it. Honestly, only Lucian could think of exposing himself in such a unique way."

Lana laughed softly and nodded in agreement.

Quinn continued with an amused smile.

"That was the last time he ever tried something like that. After that day, the family became suspicious and started investigating Lucian directly. Meanwhile, he pretended to remain calm. He quietly searched for a place to live and even found himself a part-time job."

Lana understood immediately and chuckled. "Well, regardless of everything, Lucian is doing pretty well now."

Quinn nodded. As he spoke, his gaze drifted toward Lana. A faint trace of envy appeared in his eyes.

"Sometimes I wish I could have his blessing too."

Lana let out a quiet laugh.

"Trust me. Some things look beautiful from afar, but when you get close enough, you realize just how toxic they really are."

Hearing those words, Quinn chuckled helplessly. Soon afterward, he stood up and left.

Lucian returned home earlier than usual that day.

The cool evening breeze followed him inside as he walked toward Lana’s room. Stopping by the door, he knocked gently before speaking.

"Did Quinn come here today?"

Lana looked up and nodded honestly.

"Yes. He came here to study."

Lucian stared at her for a moment. Then, without saying anything, he nudged the small velvet box on the table.

The moment Lana saw it, her heart nearly skipped a beat.

’Oh no... he forgot to take it back with him.’

Taking a slow breath to calm herself, she forced a smile. "Yes, he confessed to me, and I rejected him."

Lucian’s expression remained calm, but his eyes darkened slightly.

The next second, he wrapped an arm around her waist and gently pulled her onto the bed.

His warm embrace surrounded her completely. The familiar scent of his cologne filled her senses as he lowered his head and kissed her hair.

Once the kiss ended, he looked directly into her eyes. His gaze burned with an intensity that made her heart race.

"So if one day you had to choose between Quinn and me, who would you choose?"

Lana laughed softly. "Of course I would choose my boyfriend."

Lucian was not satisfied. "What if you and I were never together? Would you ever consider giving Quinn a chance?"

Lana did not understand why he was suddenly asking such strange questions, but she still answered honestly. "No."

That answer came from the bottom of her heart.

Even in her previous life, when she could not be with Lucian, she had never thought about finding another man to replace him.

Sure, there had been moments when she admired certain people, but those feelings had never gone beyond simple appreciation.

As she thought about it, she looked up at him curiously. "But why are you asking such strange questions?"

Lucian chuckled and gently pinched her cheek. "It is nothing. I just wanted a little reassurance. Am I not allowed to be jealous?"

Lana immediately burst into laughter. "Fine, fine. You are allowed to be jealous."

With that, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly.

A while later, Lucian finally left the room.

The moment he stepped outside, he lowered his gaze toward his phone. The call log was still visible on the screen.

Elsewhere, Quinn stared at his own phone with a completely speechless expression.

Just ten minutes earlier, Lucian had suddenly called him.

At first, Quinn had thought Lucian was calling to confront him about the proposal. He had mentally prepared himself for an awkward conversation before finally answering the call.

Who could have imagined that instead of confrontation, he would be forced to listen to such an absurd declaration of love?

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. A bitter laugh escaped him. "That fox did it on purpose."

He clenched his jaw. "Sometimes I truly wonder why he gets everything he wants."

Meanwhile, Thessy had finally obtained the report she had been searching for. The information inside immediately made her expression darken.

Her suspicions only grew stronger. ’Sure enough. The Peterson family knows about Lana’s existence.’

Otherwise, why would her second brother meet a woman who supposedly had no connection whatsoever to them?

Without hesitation, she called Philip. The call connected quickly. "What do you want?"

Philip’s casual voice came through the phone.

Thessy suppressed her anxiety and forced herself to remain calm. "Brother, can we meet? I have something important to discuss."

Philip agreed immediately. "Sure. When are you returning to the country? Just let me know."

Thessy lowered her voice. "I have already returned. There is no need to wait. Let’s meet directly at the café."

Hearing the urgency in her tone, Philip accepted without hesitation.

Soon, both siblings arrived at their usual café. The moment they sat down, Thessy looked directly at Philip.

"Brother, do you know something strange happened recently? I met a woman who looks a lot like our parents."

As she spoke, she carefully observed every change in Philip’s expression.

Meanwhile, Philip merely scoffed. "Really? Then what did you do?"

Thessy smiled casually. "Nothing. I simply thought she looked similar to them."

She paused briefly before continuing.

"But do you know what even stranger is? A few days ago, I received a message from someone claiming they had found the true daughter."

She laughed as though the entire thing was ridiculous. "Can you believe it? I even played along. I asked how much money the other party wanted."

As those words left her mouth, Philip’s tense heart finally relaxed. ’Maybe I misunderstood everything.’

Perhaps his earlier reaction had been excessive. Maybe she had played along because she did not know about Lana’s relationship with the Peterson family.
