Chapter 381: The Observers, And Pawns

"Stop."

Mirabella came to an abrupt stop mid-air, her golden aura flaring as she hovered a significant distance away from Hayatobi and the struggling frontline group. She moved her sharp gaze all over the burning place, her enhanced perception piercing through the thick, unnatural smog, then slowly raised her head to the dark, churning sky.

’So much powerful presence... Why aren’t they stopping these things?’ She thought, a slight, deeply suspicious frown forming on her face. Her senses were picking up massive, dormant signatures hidden within the atmospheric layers—entities fully capable of erasing this undead plague with a single strike.

’Even those who called themselves Guardians are simply watching the show.’ She lowered her gaze, staring coldly down at the red-skinned lady with the umbrella, and the two massive, 10-foot-tall red-skinned zombies flanking her.

’These pigs, they’re watching from the shadows to know everyone trump cards...’ Mirabella’s eyes narrowed with absolute contempt for the games being played with innocent lives. She refused to let her guild be used as sacrificial testing dummies. Slowly, she raised her fingers, and snapped it.

BOOOOM!!

Down in the ruined streets, Hitachi, who was busy executing a flawless sword sequence to hold back the horde in the West side, suddenly froze mid-strike as a golden spatial array locked onto his coordinates.

"This?" He muttered, recognizing the energy of his Guild Leader.

Aurelia, David, Precious, Austin, Daniel and Casey who were fiercely fighting close by blinked in profound confusion, as Hitachi violently vanished from the bloody battlefield, leaving behind only a vacuum of displaced air.

"....?!"

"What just?" Austin was completely stunned, his fists still wrapped in flames, as Aurelia vanished next in a flash of light, then rapidly followed by Precious, David, Daniel, Casey, and lastly him.

The exhausted local soldiers and mages who were fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with them were left entirely dumbfounded, staring blankly at the empty spots their main, heavy-hitting fighters stood some moments ago. The sudden loss of pressure was catastrophic.

GRAAAAAA!!

Without the elite members of Ghost holding the line, the red zombies let out a collective, bloodcurdling roar. They shot forward with ten times their previous speed, crashing into the weakened defensive line like a tidal wave and killing the soldiers none stop, their unkillable bodies tearing through standard armor like paper.

_

High above the carnage, the teleported group appeared right in the sky, safely suspended behind Mirabella. They looked at one another in sheer disbelief, checking for injuries, and then turned to their Guild Leader with varying expressions of shock and anger.

"What are you doing? People are dying down there!" Austin yelled. He strained against the spatial lock holding him in the air, but no matter how he try to move, his body didn’t budge a single inch.

"Quiet down. They are countless powerhouses around us... You should think, why aren’t they helping? And most of them are from the Sword Empire." Mirabella said, her voice dropping to a chilling register. Her words instantly shattered the chaotic atmosphere, stunning the group behind her into a tense silence.

Hitachi stared at Mirabella for some seconds, his mind rapidly processing the implications, then closed his eyes. He channeled energy into his celestial vision, expanding his sensory web into the clouds and the surrounding buildings. After some seconds, he opened his eyes again, his gaze utterly cold, confirming the horrific truth of her statement.

Everyone watched the proud young master of the Azul clan, a warrior who lived for honorable combat, as he slowly sheathed back his sword, the click echoing loudly in the quiet sky, and hugged it tightly in his arms, entirely submitting to her command.

"Wait! What are you saying?! You are saying Sword Empire’s powerhouses are all over the place, but none is helping?! Are they with these red-skinned monsters?!" Carl asked, a deep, horrified frown on his face as the betrayal dawned on him.

"Don’t jump into conclusions." Mirabella muttered, standing calmly in the air like a sovereign watching a chessboard. Her posture was relaxed, yet entirely lethal:

"We are students, no one will hold it against us if we don’t participate in this battle, we can simply say we were scared." She added, providing them with the perfect, undeniable alibi.

The Ghost Guild members looked at one another, the reality of the realms’ ruthlessness sinking in. Reluctantly, they nodded their heads, standing completely still in the sky, their gazes fixed heavily on the brutal bloodbath unfolding below.

Directly below their position, the 50 elite red zombies stood on the rooftops, making no move to attack, calmly observing them with hollow, intelligent eyes.

_

Hidden deep within the storm clouds, safely partitioned from the chaos.

"What is she doing?!!" Jang Gu asked in sheer disbelief, his old, weathered eyes wide opened as he watched the absolute top prospect of the generation completely abandon the frontline.

"It seems she detected us, and instead of helping, she stood back to observe the situation." Nita answered, her voice laced with a mixture of profound shock and deep respect, turning her intense gaze to the burning city below.

"We should go and help now!" Bonita yelled, her empathy reaching its absolute limit as the screams of the dying soldiers echoed through the atmosphere. But before she could even move a muscle to descend, Nita raised one single, authoritative finger, completely freezing her in place with overwhelming pressure.

"Leader!" Bonita gritted her teeth in rage, tears of frustration forming in her eyes.

"I know you want to help, but we can’t just jump inside there! Around us, are more than 50 Sword Empire’s masters, Guild Leaders, and soldiers... My plan is to wait, and see what these people are waiting for. If they attack Hayatobi and the others, then..." Nita paused, her aura flaring dangerously as she calculated the fallout. She tightly clenched her fists:

"The second world will only have two empires." She added, the sheer weight of her words promising absolute, genocidal war against the Sword Empire if they proved to be traitors.

Bonita blinked rapidly, her anger morphing into a chilling realization. She genuinely thought the Sword Empire’s hidden forces were just preparing to join the battle and help with a coordinated strike... But now, the terrifying prospect of a continental betrayal hung over Galaxy City.

"Let’s just observe." Fernando said in a deep, calm tone that rumbled like distant thunder, his massive arms folded across his chest. His gaze remained entirely fixed on Mirabella, a small, knowing smile playing on his face. He admired the young girl’s ruthless clarity.

_

BOOOOM!!!

A massive section of the defensive barricade violently shattered into dust.

"Help!!! We are losing the West side!!!" Someone screamed from the ground, their voice cracking with absolute terror, causing a deep, stressed frown to form on Hayatobi’s brows.

’Strange, I distinctly thought Hitachi and the others are actively guarding that area,’ He thought rapidly. He looked over his shoulder at the arrogant Fire Lord, Antonio:

"You want to help! Then go and defend that sector!"

’This old man! I am not in the military faction, you can’t order me around like your dog,’ Antonio thought with a slight, deeply annoyed frown, hating the command tone. He elegantly looked over his shoulder at the two elite ladies behind him, who both silently nodded their heads in absolute loyalty.

"Saving lives is more important! Come." He turned dramatically, his red cape snapping in the hot wind, and shot towards the failing location. He moved with incredible, blazing speed, leaving a trail of embers in his wake, the two ladies following close behind him to intercept the unkillable horde.
