Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Nina, Save Me, I Don’t Want to Go to Jail
The English teacher didn’t dare say another word. He just nodded blankly and fled the office.
The internet calmed down again. The Sinclair family had paid to have all the trending topics related to the incident removed.
Although the truth was out, some people insisted on believing the worst and would periodically sling mud.
So, it was best to reduce the heat as much as possible.
On Friday, Mr. Sinclair changed into a set of casual clothes as soon as he got off work at noon, ready to attend the parent-teacher conference.
Even though Chloe Sinclair was on leave, how could he possibly miss the parent-teacher conference when his daughter had scored so well for the first time?
Gabriel Sinclair had originally wanted to go, but Mr. Sinclair flatly refused, saying he was too conspicuous.
As for his eldest son, he’d directly scheduled a meeting for him; it wasn’t even certain if he’d be able to come home that night.
A silver-gray Phaeton pulled up slowly to the school gate. Because of its unassuming badge, it didn’t attract much attention.
Furthermore, Mr. Sinclair was dressed in casual clothes like most of the other parents. Aside from his handsome face, which was quite striking for his age and made a few people turn their heads, he didn’t cause much of a stir.
When he arrived at Class 7 of the senior year, he saw that many parents had already arrived.
Outside the classroom, a girl from Class 1 saw a familiar figure. She couldn’t help but glance back at Nina Sinclair and ask, puzzled, "Huh? Nina, wasn’t that your dad who just went into Class 7? Why isn’t he coming to your conference?"
Hearing this, Nina Sinclair’s expression stiffened, and her gaze followed.
’She thought about how she had been calling Mr. Sinclair nonstop for the past few days. At first, the calls just went unanswered, but eventually, she got a message saying the number was no longer in service.’
’Mr. Sinclair had obviously canceled the SIM card.’
’She had messaged Ethan Sinclair on WeChat. Although he always replied, his tone was consistently cold.’
’And now, for the parent-teacher conference, he wasn’t even coming for her.’
’In the past, even when Mr. Sinclair was busy with work, it was almost always his assistant who attended these meetings.’
’But Chloe Sinclair had only been home for a few months, so why was Mr. Sinclair suddenly dropping work to attend a meeting for her?’
Nina Sinclair’s face was filled with anger, but she couldn’t show it in front of everyone. She could only force a bitter smile and speculate, "Perhaps it’s what my sister requested. After all, Dad is busy and can’t be there for both of us."
However, to her classmates, this sounded like Chloe Sinclair had shamelessly pestered Nina Sinclair’s father into attending the conference for her instead.
Seeing that her goal was achieved, a triumphant smile appeared on Nina Sinclair’s face.
However, the classmates next to her were still chattering away.
The conversation happened to turn to Nina Sinclair’s recent win at a piano competition.
"You won first place in the city-wide piano competition last time, right? That’s so amazing."
Nina Sinclair’s vanity was instantly stoked. She lifted her chin arrogantly and said, "I was just lucky."
This remark only made her classmate like her more. The classmate asked again, "I heard from Yuna Rhodes that a director has taken an interest in you. I don’t know if it’s true, but if it is, can you give me your autograph then?"
The more the classmate spoke, the more excited she became, as if she truly saw Nina Sinclair as a big star.
Nina Sinclair inwardly looked down on the girl in front of her, but she thoroughly enjoyed the praise.
She said, "I’m not some big star, but if you want an autograph, I can give you one after we get back."
Hearing Nina Sinclair’s indirect confirmation, the classmate nodded excitedly and threw her arms around her.
Although Nina felt disgusted, she couldn’t just push her away.
Just then, the phone in her pocket suddenly started to ring.
Without a word, Nina Sinclair subtly slipped out of the girl’s embrace and turned away to answer the call.
"Nina, you have to help me! I can’t go to jail!"
