Chapter 38: Chapter 38: But It’s Not My Fault Either
"A watch?"
Confusion flickered across Chloe Sinclair’s face, as if she didn’t quite understand. "What watch?"
"Didn’t I give you a watch the day before yesterday to give to Dad?" Nina Sinclair explained.
She had spent her entire allowance on that watch.
Even though she received a hundred thousand yuan a month from the Sinclair Family, it was nowhere near enough for her.
She had to get that watch back. She absolutely could not let Chloe Sinclair get away with it.
Thus, her eyes were filled with urgency, desperate to know where the watch had gone.
"Oh, you mean *that* watch."
Chloe Sinclair thought for a moment, then a look of sudden realization dawned on her. "Didn’t you already give it to me?"
The words caught in Nina Sinclair’s throat. But to get the watch back smoothly, she forced a smile. "I meant for you to give that to Dad, but you didn’t give it to him yesterday."
At this, a hint of blame crept onto Nina Sinclair’s face. "And you... why didn’t you tell me you changed your birthday gift? And it even ended up being the same as mine. If you’re unhappy about something, you can just say it. There’s no need to..."
"I thought, with your level of intelligence, you would have figured it out by now. I didn’t expect to have overestimated you," Chloe Sinclair said softly, her eyes lifting slightly, a smile playing on her lips.
Her gaze swept over Nina Sinclair, and she instantly saw Nina’s expression turn volatile.
"Chloe Sinclair, you tricked me!"
Nina Sinclair suddenly flew into a rage, raising her hand to slap Chloe Sinclair.
Chloe Sinclair’s eyes instantly turned cold. "Nina Sinclair, you’re just stupid."
’It’s her own fault for being too greedy, too ambitious.’
"I’m going to tell Dad!"
"Oh?" Chloe Sinclair raised an eyebrow, a faint smile gracing her lips. "What, you’re going to tell Dad that I took the watch you were originally going to give him?"
"A watch for his birthday? What a brilliant idea!"
Nina Sinclair froze. Her mouth opened as if to mumble something, but she couldn’t form the words. Her eyes instantly filled with a sense of being wronged.
Mrs. Logan, standing to the side, felt her heart ache for Nina and couldn’t help but chide, "Chloe, just let it go. Don’t be so petty. Nina has already suffered so much since you came back."
’In her eyes, Chloe Sinclair was nothing compared to Nina Sinclair.’
’Their Nina had lived like a princess in a castle her whole life. If not for Chloe Sinclair’s appearance, Nina could have continued living that way forever.’
"Hah—"
Chloe Sinclair spoke, her voice laced with annoyance. "What, you think I shouldn’t have come back?"
Mrs. Logan didn’t speak, which was a tacit admission.
Chloe Sinclair found the situation utterly absurd and couldn’t stop herself from saying, "The life Nina Sinclair had was originally supposed to be mine. If it weren’t for her, I could have grown up happily in this house, with endless pretty clothes to wear and endless pocket money to spend."
"If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have known those two drunkards I had for parents, and I wouldn’t have been locked up every day in a tiny, pitch-black room less than five square meters for seventeen long years!"
’Besides, was Nina Sinclair really completely clueless about all this?’
"But that’s not Nina’s fault," Mrs. Logan retorted.
"But it’s not my fault either!"
Chloe Sinclair’s voice was sharp. "It’s not wrong for me to want to return to my birth family! It’s not wrong for me to want to fight for a better life! And it’s certainly not wrong for me to want my dad and brother to like me!"
"I’m asking you, what have I done wrong?"
Mrs. Logan was rendered speechless. She suddenly caught sight of Ethan Sinclair not far away and immediately clutched her sleeves tightly.
"Young Master," she stammered, extremely nervous.
However, Ethan Sinclair had just come downstairs and wasn’t clear on what had happened between the three of them.
But he had heard Chloe Sinclair’s last sentence loud and clear.
Ethan Sinclair was silent for a moment, his eyes turning red. "Chloe, I’m sorry."
