Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Chloe, Where’s My Watch?
Nina Sinclair’s face was pale, and she swayed unsteadily before collapsing to the floor.
Her lips parted, as if to explain something, but Mr. Sinclair cut her off.
"I’ll have the villa in the West End transferred to your name. I’ll also send you a monthly allowance."
Nina Sinclair’s face turned ashen, and her body trembled with fear.
She understood that Mr. Sinclair was truly furious this time.
"Dad, I was wrong. I was just jealous of Chloe. Jealous of how everyone liked her the moment she came back to the Sinclair family. I..."
"Enough!"
The more Mr. Sinclair listened to Nina, the more wrong it felt. He couldn’t help but demand, "Just because you were jealous, you slandered Chloe in front of everyone at the banquet, accusing her of fabricating her scores?"
"I’ll have Mrs. Logan take you to your new home tomorrow."
A weary look crossed Mr. Sinclair’s face. "We did raise you for eighteen years, after all. We won’t just abandon you, but from now on, you are to have no contact with Chloe whatsoever."
Nina Sinclair knew she was truly done for. Inside, her resentment for Chloe Sinclair only grew.
In the end, she stopped trying to defend herself. She wiped the tears from her face, stood up, and bowed. "Dad, I’m sorry."
Seeing this, Mr. Sinclair couldn’t say anything more. He waved his hand dismissively. "You may go."
When Nina Sinclair saw that Mr. Sinclair had no intention of trying to stop her, she had no choice but to leave.
—
「The next day」
As Chloe Sinclair came downstairs, she saw Nina Sinclair struggling down with her luggage.
She instantly raised an eyebrow, a faint smile playing on her lips.
She stood on the landing. The moment Nina Sinclair looked up and saw her, a flash of hatred crossed her eyes.
"Miss, how can you possibly live all by yourself? Why don’t I go plead with Mr. Sinclair to let you stay?"
Nina Sinclair scoffed inwardly.
’Mrs. Logan is, at the end of the day, just a housekeeper. She barely even speaks to her boss.’
’If she went to plead on my behalf, wouldn’t Mr. Sinclair just dig deeper into my past misdeeds?’
"Mrs. Logan, you should stay here at the villa and take care of Dad and my brother. I’ll be fine on my own."
Nina Sinclair lowered her voice, her expression softening.
"SIGH... If it weren’t for Miss Chloe, you wouldn’t be getting sent away. Mr. Sinclair is being so unfair," Mrs. Logan grumbled, her eyes filled with indignation.
’Idiot!’
Nina Sinclair scoffed inwardly, but her words were gentle. "Please don’t say that. I’ve always been an outsider here. Chloe is Dad’s biological daughter. It’s only right that I leave now that she’s back. You absolutely must not make things difficult for her."
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Logan fell into thought for a moment, as if an idea had occurred to her.
When she snapped out of it, she nodded repeatedly, a faint smile on her face. "I’ll make you some chicken soup and bring it over tomorrow."
Nina Sinclair’s expression darkened. She knew Mrs. Logan had taken her words to heart. "Thank you, Mrs. Logan."
Standing on the landing, Chloe Sinclair gave a slight raise of her eyebrow and descended the stairs as if no one else were there.
Hearing the footsteps, the two of them panicked and quickly lowered their heads.
An unnatural smile appeared on Mrs. Logan’s face. "Chloe, when did you come down?"
Chloe Sinclair put on a puzzled expression. "Just now. Why?"
Mrs. Logan and Nina Sinclair exchanged a look. Then, Mrs. Logan forced a benevolent smile. "It’s nothing, nothing at all."
Chloe Sinclair scoffed to herself, her gaze suddenly falling on the suitcase in Nina’s hands.
Nina Sinclair’s expression immediately turned awkward, and she instinctively tried to hide the suitcase behind her back.
"Going on a trip, sister?"
"N-no."
"Then why do you have a suitcase, sister?"
Nina Sinclair said nothing, her expression turning foul.
For some reason, she felt a hint of mockery in Chloe Sinclair’s words.
The thought of how Chloe Sinclair had ruined her plan last night by not giving the watch away sent a fresh wave of anger through her.
"Chloe, what about the watch I gave you the day before yesterday?"
