Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Class Reunion
Nina Sinclair felt a sour knot in her stomach watching three million of her money disappear in an instant.
That three million was the final payment from her contract with a film production.
Nina Sinclair finished signing the IOU, her tone sharp. "Can I go now?"
Chloe Sinclair nodded. "Be my guest."
Not wanting to stay a moment longer, Nina Sinclair turned and left without a second thought.
After Nina Sinclair left, Landon Sinclair gazed at White, which had been forced to shut down and wouldn’t restart. A hint of worry flashed in his eyes. "Don’t worry, I’ll fix him for you."
But from the looks of it, the robot was completely totaled. It was hard to say if its original programming could ever be restored.
But Chloe Sinclair shook her head.
She walked past Yvonne White and crouched down beside White, giving the robot a quick inspection. "No need," she finally said, looking up at Landon. "I can fix him. But I’ll need to use your laboratory."
Landon Sinclair readily agreed.
After all, his research institute had plenty of spare lab space.
"Will you need an assistant?" Landon Sinclair asked, still concerned.
It was only natural to ask. Artificial Intelligence projects required a team; the chance of a single person pulling it off was incredibly slim.
Data had to be recorded throughout the entire repair, and there was no room for even the slightest error.
Chloe Sinclair, however, didn’t need any help.
Eight was an intelligent big-data computer capable of monitoring all the necessary data.
Besides, White’s operating system hadn’t been released to the public, and she didn’t want to risk exposing it.
A leak could affect the internal research at the Shaw Group.
Chloe Sinclair couldn’t take that risk.
Besides, she already had an audacious plan forming in her mind.
Chloe Sinclair turned to the butler. "I’ll have to trouble you to bring White to my brother’s institute later."
The butler nodded eagerly and agreed at once.
Yvonne White, who had been silent all this time, finally snapped, "Chloe Sinclair, didn’t you say this broken robot was a total loss? How can it be fixed?"
Chloe Sinclair froze for a second. Then, a smile played on her lips, but her eyes turned instantly frigid. "I’m the only one who can fix White. Anyone else... can’t."
Yvonne White was suddenly speechless.
But the thought of how Chloe Sinclair had repeatedly defied her left a bitter feeling.
Before she could say anything else, Mr. Sinclair suddenly stepped in to stop her.
"Mom, you’re tired. Why don’t you go and rest?"
Seeing as she was in someone else’s home, Yvonne White wasn’t foolish enough to cause a scene and kept her mouth shut.
Still, watching Chloe Sinclair walk away left her feeling deeply unsettled.
Chloe Sinclair didn’t leave her room for two solid weeks.
Worried something had happened, Mr. Sinclair went in to check on her, only to find the room in a state of utter chaos.
Mr. Sinclair quietly tidied up the room for her before speaking in a careful tone, "Chloe, you’ve been cooped up in here for two weeks. How about going out for a bit?"
Chloe Sinclair looked up from her book and didn’t refuse.
A few days prior, her classmates had all been tagging her online, asking her to come to a class reunion.
She hadn’t refused, but she hadn’t accepted, either.
It wasn’t until Mr. Sinclair mentioned it that she realized just how long she had locked herself in her room again.
She wasn’t one to neglect her own well-being. Especially since being reborn, she had always put her health first.
So, she nodded and said earnestly, "I’ll go to the class reunion tomorrow."
Mr. Sinclair was ecstatic. "Wonderful, wonderful!" he said, beaming. "It’s good to get out and make friends! How much money will you need for tomorrow?"
After a moment’s thought, Mr. Sinclair said, "You know what? I’ll just transfer a million to my dear Cody. If that’s not enough, just ask Dad for more."
He had barely finished speaking when Chloe Sinclair saw a notification for a new transfer to her bank account.
"Dad, I have money," she said.
Her classmates were just regular students. Very few of them were actually rich. The reunion would likely just be a hot pot dinner and maybe some fun afterward.
’A million is way too much,’ she thought.
But Mr. Sinclair waved her off. "That’s your own money. This is from me. Spend as much as you like. If there’s one thing this family isn’t short on, it’s money."
Chloe Sinclair’s lip twitched. The phrase "nouveau riche" popped into her head, but she felt a warmth spreading through her chest. "Thanks, Dad."
For a moment, Mr. Sinclair felt a wave of emotion.
He used to give Nina Sinclair just as much pocket money, if not more, but Nina had always acted as if it was her due.
He hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but now the memory left him feeling a little uneasy.
"No matter what you choose to do, I’ll always support you. But I hope you’ll put your health first. I don’t want you to be like your mother..."
Chloe Sinclair froze.
She didn’t really have any feelings for her mother.
After all, she had never met the woman in her life.
This was the first time Mr. Sinclair had ever brought her up.
Chloe Sinclair was at a loss for words. After a moment, she could only reply stiffly, "Right. I’ll take care of my health."
Mr. Sinclair saw how uncomfortable she was, so he sighed softly and changed the subject. "Aren’t the exam results coming out tomorrow afternoon?"
Chloe Sinclair didn’t process it at first, her gaze distant.
She’d been holed up in her room for so long, she was still a bit dazed.
"What?" Chloe Sinclair asked, thinking she must have misheard him.
Eight, speaking from within her system, couldn’t bear it any longer. *You idiot, the results for the college entrance exams are posted tomorrow!*
It finally dawned on Chloe Sinclair.
She muttered to herself, "Wow, time really flew by."
Two weeks had passed in the blink of an eye.
Mr. Sinclair didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at his daughter’s reaction.
He shook his head. "Come down for dinner later. And no more instant noodles."
Chloe Sinclair was mortified.
She looked at the mountain of instant noodle boxes filling her room, wondering if she should clean them up now.
Mr. Sinclair, knowing exactly what was on her mind, said with a resigned sigh, "Just let Nanny Archer clean it up later."
Nanny Archer was a new housekeeper for the Sinclair Family.
She was getting on in years and was a former neighbor from the butler’s hometown. Her family had made their way to Kennet because her grandson was sick.
Taking pity on her, the butler had offered her the position.
Fortunately, Nanny Archer was honest and hardworking, so Mr. Sinclair had agreed.
In less than half an hour, Nanny Archer had the room sparkling clean.
After resting for a bit, Chloe Sinclair made another post online.
It wasn’t long before likes and comments started pouring in.
They were all about how beautiful Chloe Sinclair was, the flattery so over-the-top it was practically an art form.
Whenever Chloe Sinclair read the comments, she couldn’t help but touch her cheek, feeling a little self-conscious.
After replying to a few messages from her followers, Chloe Sinclair put her phone away.
When she went downstairs, she found Yvonne White watching TV in the living room.
Chloe Sinclair stopped in her tracks.
She was about to turn and leave, but Yvonne White’s voice stopped her. "You have less and less respect these days. Can’t even be bothered to greet your elders."
