Chapter 344: Chapter 344: Unspeakable
Wu Sheng was taken away for only one reason: he had beaten up Ge Ba.
Ge Ba had suffered two broken ribs and stated that for now, he would reserve the right to press charges, pending Wu Sheng’s future conduct.
Wu Sheng was taken from Su Li’s hospital room. Before he left, he uttered just three words: "Don’t be afraid."
Only then did Su Li learn that Ge Ba had been released, the reason being insufficient evidence.
A corner of Su Li’s mouth twitched when she heard that excuse.
Not long after Wu Sheng was taken away, Pinjun Clothing’s boutique was forced by the department store to shut down and vacate the premises.
Even the shop they had rented from Yang Jiu was forcibly reclaimed.
Then, the factory began receiving a flood of calls from radio stations and newspapers regarding their advertising contracts.
They were told that future collaborations would likely be impossible.
This was a silent warning: if Su Li didn’t get the message, the factory might not be able to stay in business.
In the eyes of an ordinary person, Su Li was already quite wealthy, but in reality, she was just getting started.
In the eyes of an old, established family like the Yang Family, someone like Su Li was like a newborn infant they could crush at will.
While Li Hongqin was rushing to the hospital room to tell Su Li about these developments, Wu Sheng was also meeting with someone.
It was none other than Ge Ba, who was supposed to be hospitalized.
"Having fun?" Wu Sheng asked, his gaze landing on Ge Ba.
Ge Ba’s eyes quivered.
’Having fun?’
’Was everything he had so painstakingly orchestrated just a game to him?’
At the thought, Ge Ba suddenly laughed.
"A game? I suppose so. To you, this can only be considered a game."
Wu Sheng watched Ge Ba without a word.
Ge Ba met his cold gaze and murmured, "I know I can’t win against you, but..."
He laughed. "But, Wu Sheng, you seem to have forgotten. You’re different now. You have a weakness."
And Wu Sheng’s weakness was Su Li.
The look in Wu Sheng’s eyes finally changed, turning terrifyingly grim.
Ge Ba leaned in close to Wu Sheng. "I have no weakness, so I don’t need to fear you. All I have to do is get my hands on her."
’All he needed was to get his hands on Su Li.’
"Don’t you dare." The killing intent in Wu Sheng’s eyes was so thick it was almost tangible.
"Oh, I dare." Ge Ba’s eyes were filled with a crazed light. "Having come this far, what is there left that I wouldn’t dare do?"
Ge Ba’s eyes suddenly turned red. "Wu Sheng, I’m sick. I have a disease that can never be cured. I don’t care if I die anymore, did you know that?"
Wu Sheng frowned at Ge Ba, completely baffled by what he was saying.
"Wu Sheng, wouldn’t it have been so much better if you’d just never married, never found a woman? Why did you suddenly have to go and find Su Li?"
Ge Ba wiped away a tear and started to laugh.
"You’re already thirty, why did you have to get interested now? It would have been so much better if you’d stayed like you were before, not liking anyone, even letting people say you liked men."
He patted his own chest. "I would have been with you! I would have stayed with you your whole life, been a bachelor right alongside you! Why did you have to change?"
"This is all that bitch Su Li’s fault! A woman like her... how dare she seduce you!"
"A piece of used goods, and she actually managed to sway you..."
Staring at Ge Ba, a crack finally appeared in Wu Sheng’s stony expression.
A chill shot down his spine, making it go numb. He looked at Ge Ba, the man he had grown up with, and his gaze was utterly transformed.
He knew he had never truly understood Ge Ba, but only now did he realize just how little he knew.
’How could Ge Ba... how could he...’
Ge Ba saw the look on Wu Sheng’s face, and his own features twisted viciously for an instant.
’He knew it. He just knew it. As soon as his feelings were exposed, this is how Wu Sheng would look at him.’
’He was willing to give up more than that Su Li ever could, and he asked for so much less.’
’But it was impossible.’
A love so profound, yet impossible to speak of.
Only because he, too, was a man.
It was a sickness.
Ge Ba knew he was sick to the core, completely beyond saving.
He had used every method he could think of to ruin things between Wu Sheng and Su Li.
He had always been aware of Wu Sheng’s family background and knew what kind of person Ye Xilan was, so he leaked the news to her that Wu Sheng was involved with a divorcée like Su Li.
He had hoped to use Ye Xilan to break the couple apart, but unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned.
Later, left with no other choice, he decided to get involved personally.
He knew Su Li had her own factory, that she had some skills, and that she loved and valued money.
So, he had adopted a different identity and mustered a lifetime’s worth of patience to pursue Su Li, the woman he detested most.
He had spent so much effort, dangled so many lures, and invested so much capital that he was certain Su Li would agree without hesitation.
But in the end, Su Li had remained completely unmoved.
Ge Ba had given it his all, but still, nothing changed.
Wu Sheng still went ahead and enthusiastically planned his elaborate proposal, and Su Li accepted.
Ge Ba couldn’t accept this reality.
It was in this state of mind that Ge Ba had waited downstairs at Su Li’s apartment.
When he saw Wu Sheng and Su Li exchange rings, saw Su Li kiss Wu Sheng, and then watched as Wu Sheng, so deliriously happy he didn’t know which way was up, bumped into a wall, Ge Ba clearly heard the tightly wound string in his mind snap completely.
The moment Wu Sheng was out of sight, Ge Ba went upstairs and carried out his insane plan.
His hatred, his disgust, his jealousy—all of it was made manifest in the wounds he inflicted on Su Li.
Only one thought had echoed in Ge Ba’s mind: destroy Su Li, make her disappear.
If Su Li disappeared, everything would go back to the way it was.
But Su Li had been saved, and Wu Sheng’s feelings for her remained unchanged.
And he had been exposed.
Ge Ba didn’t regret it. He only hated that he hadn’t been more careful.
Fortunately, he still had an opportunity.
Ge Ba’s eyes were filled with a fanatical madness. "Wu Sheng, leave Su Li. As long as you promise to leave her, I won’t press charges for what you did."
After the initial wave of disbelief, countless emotions flashed through Wu Sheng’s eyes.
Anger, disappointment, confusion, disgust—all of these and more, until only a sense of the absurd remained.
’Wasn’t it utterly absurd?’
’He’d never thought he’d encounter something so preposterous in his entire life.’
"And if I say no?"
’Ge Ba, just how much more ridiculous are you going to get?’
