Chapter 1147: Chapter 1161: Choosing Love Over Friendship
Lin Ruonan blinked in confusion. It seemed she saw that indelible warmth in Brother’s eyes again, along with her own shadow, hazy and ethereal, right at the center, growing larger and larger...
The post-rain sunlight fell on the grass, illuminating the glistening droplets and gradually rising with a tide of warmth.
An Ran looked at the number on the scale, which after some fluctuations settled on a certain integer. She pouted, "A good girl should be under a hundred, and I’m about to not be a good girl anymore. Sister Su, this is all thanks to you."
The day Mu Xingfeng led the team to training, An Ran called Jiang Zhuo to pick her up and take her back to the villa, thus beginning a carefree, easygoing life with Xiao Xiao.
Su Jin, being five or six years older than them and a retired member of the Guard Team, was much more emotionally mature.
It was rare for the two girls to stay home for such an extended period, and she diligently prepared delicious meals for them every day.
Su Jin’s cooking was already superb, and coupled with the girls’ inherent love for food, it took less than a week for An Ran to gain almost three pounds.
Su Jin brought out another plate of sliced fruit from the kitchen and placed it on the coffee table. Seeing the girls’ aggrieved expressions, she smiled and said, "With your build, even over a hundred won’t look fat; it’ll just make you look healthier."
"Ding dong," a short musical sound came from the phone. An Ran picked it up and opened it, her eyes narrowing.
"Mu Xingfeng has finished work and can return to the hospital today. No, I have to rush back before he gets there." An Ran put the phone down and headed upstairs at a run.
"Ugh, this friend who values color over friendship, I’ve got her figured out," Xiao Xiao muttered with a pout.
Su Jin chuckled softly. "I heard the order for his transfer is coming soon. When Mr. moves to the Imperial City, Mrs. and he will barely meet over the years. It’s natural for her to cherish the time they have now. Miss Xiao, don’t take it to heart."
Xiao Xiao waved her hand hurriedly, "No, I was just speaking casually."
"Then doesn’t Miss Xiao plan to meet up with Lin Junyang in the next few days?" Su Jin teased, finally getting a chance to turn the tables after being the butt of Miss Xiao’s jokes often.
Xiao Xiao blushed at Su Jin’s words. "Why would I meet him? I can’t wait for him to transfer and leave, so he won’t bother me anymore."
Su Jin narrowed her eyes and chuckled, not exposing her lie.
Shortly after, An Ran came downstairs, dressed and carrying a backpack. She waved to the two in the living room, "I’m off. Don’t miss me too much."
Xiao Xiao waved back without lifting her head, "Go, go, hurry and find your Instructor Mu. By the way, don’t forget school starts the day after tomorrow."
As she finished speaking, only An Ran’s voice could be heard faintly in the distance, accompanied by the sound of a car engine.
An Ran returned to the Guard Team just after midday, tidied up the house, and seeing the fridge was empty, she took a little bag and headed to the market.
By five in the afternoon, the sun was no longer as fierce. Mu Xingfeng still hadn’t sent any messages, presumably not back at the hospital yet. Seeing the leafy trees along the path, An Ran decided to walk back to the hospital with her groceries.
After just a few steps, a figure appeared from the side alley.
"Miss An, why are you buying so many groceries?" Huang Xiaoyu asked, carrying a bundle of fruit.
An Ran nodded at her, "Today, Mu Xingfeng is coming back, planning to cook a couple more dishes."
"I didn’t expect Miss An to be so young yet so virtuous. Captain Mu is really lucky. I’m also heading back to the Guard Team, I’ll help you carry some," said Huang Xiaoyu, reaching out to take two bags from An Ran’s hand.
"Thank you, Miss Huang."
Perhaps it was because she had told Huang Xiaoyu she and Mu Xingfeng were married last time. Since then, every time they met, the previous confrontational attitude was gone. Maybe upon knowing Mu Xingfeng was married, she gave up.
It was about a kilometer from the market to the Guard Team, and since the road was remote, there were hardly any pedestrians.
On one side of the road was a man-made forest, and not far on the other side was a small river, with water joyously flowing after the rainy season.
In early September, though the temperature hadn’t dropped, there were occasional breezes. Being by the river, the wind was gentle and pleasant.
An Ran wasn’t much of a talker around strangers, but Huang Xiaoyu was like a chatterbox, talking non-stop along the way.
An Ran responded intermittently.
The sunset’s afterglow spilled over the country path as a breeze gently wafted by, with a faint sound floating in the air.
An Ran stopped in her tracks, listening carefully...
Huang Xiaoyu looked at her serious face and asked, "What’s wrong, Miss An?"
An Ran looked around uncertainly, "Miss Huang, did you hear someone calling for help?"
