Chapter 243: Are You Really Willing To Leave Me?
Christopher was still worried.
In the end, Janice couldn’t do anything but be cute.
"Honey, please. I promise I’ll come back safe and sound."
Her coquettish tone made him completely defenseless. In the end, he compromised.
"Keep in touch with me at all times. Tell me straight away if you need something."
"Okay." Janice agreed.
Early the next morning, she packed up her luggage and left.
Yvonne’s car was waiting at the door. Christopher sent Janice out and held her in his arms, reluctant to let go.
"Are you really willing to leave me?"
Janice was speechless. She would only go there for two days.
She said, "Didn’t we agree last night?"
Christopher thought, "But I’m still reluctant to part with you."
However, he also knew that Janice was determined to go. So he said in resignation, "You must call me when you arrive."
Janice nodded. "Alright, I promise. I’ll take good care of myself."
When Yvonne saw the two, she teased, "If you continue like this, we won’t be able to catch up to the TV station’s fleet."
Only then did Christopher let go of her.
Janice got in the car and waved at him.
It was not until the car was out of sight that Christopher turned around and walked back, but his heart was a little empty.
On the way, Yvonne was driving after the TV station’s fleet.
Janice sat in the passenger seat. When she mentioned it to Yvonne last night, Yvonne agreed without hesitation.
At this moment, seeing her, Janice remembered that Yvonne had applied for the new job before. She asked, "By the way, how was your interview from before?"
Yvonne frowned and said, "Forget it. That hospital might be state of the art, but it wasn’t professional at all. I wouldn’t waste my time in that kind of place."
Upon hearing her say this, Janice couldn’t help but feel a bit upset.
"When I get back, I’ll try to find another one. Don’t worry. I can find one." Yvonne
comforted her.
Janice replied, "Then I’ll go with you when we get back."
"OK. That would be great."
They looked at each other and ended the topic with a mutual smile.
Under Yvonne’s persistent efforts, they finally reunited with the TV station’s fleet.
It was already afternoon when they arrived at the reception area of the village.
With the reception of the principal, they were ushered into the school.
Janice was familiar with the people and environment. After accompanying Lucy to chat with others for a while, she and Yvonne left first.
After all, her goal this time was to find Joey.
The road in the mountains was rugged. Janice and Yvonne decided to go to find Joey on foot.
"Why would someone stay in such a poor and desolate place? If it’s just for the sake of making a living, wouldn’t there be more opportunities to earn money in the city? There’s no need to stay here." After walking around the village, Yvonne complained.
Janice wasn’t surprised by her thoughts. After all, Yvonne came from an affluent family, so that she didn’t have the opportunity to experience life here. She wouldn’t understand the people whose families had lived here for generations.
However, Janice was fortunate enough to experience it before.
<It’s an atmosphere that can’t be experienced in a city. Rural life is quiet and everyone does their part to help out each other.>
She said, "It’s not just about making money. They probably know that they can make more elsewhere. But for them, they love the mountains, water, and even the air here. It’s a sense of security that no other place can give them, and it can’t be bought with money."
...
Yvonne thought for a while and agreed. If she were to go to an unfamiliar place alone, she would also feel insecure.
"Then why do you think the man brought the child here?"
Janice had mentioned the matter to Yvonne, but she hadn’t told the details.
Yvonne was curious.
"I don’t know either until we find the person. When we find the person later, don’t tell anyone else. If people ask, tell them we are here for interviews, understand?"
"Got it. I’m not that stupid."
Janice chuckled softly.
A countryman carrying a knapsack on his back walked over. Janice asked him for directions.
"The man said that we’ll be there in another one kilometer."
When Yvonne heard this, she became depressed. "One kilometer? You’d better bury me here."
As she spoke, she didn’t work forward, but found a stone and sat down.
"You’re really not continuing?" Janice asked with a frown.
"No, I can’t walk anymore."
Yvonne sat on the stone, panting and fanning herself.
Janice also felt tired. She thought, "The road here hasn’t changed for three years."
However, this was autumn. Under the scorching sun, Janice knew that this was not a good place to rest.
She looked around and said, "There is a bamboo forest over there. We can have a rest there, where could be a little cooler."
However, Yvonne waved her hand and said, "No. I really can’t walk anymore."
Janice was a little speechless. She seemed to have thought of something as she moved closer and spoke mysteriously, "You’re really not walking?"
"I’m not walking." Yvonne shook her head.
Knitting her brows, Janice purposely said, "Then, I’ll take my leave first. But don’t blame me for not reminding you. Wild animals often roam around here, so be careful."
As soon as she finished speaking, Yvonne abruptly stood up.
"Wild animal? Where is it?"
Seeing her terrified expression, Janice held back her laughter and continued, "Look at the surrounding trees and weeds, which would be easy for wild animals to hide themselves. I heard from the locals that wild tigers were seen here."
When Yvonne heard this, her face turned pale. "Then let’s go. I don’t want to be eaten by a tiger."
As she spoke, she ran away like a rabbit.
Janice burst out laughing when she saw her running.
"As a doctor, she doesn’t seem to have any common sense at all." Janice thought and shook her head while following her.
They arrived at the bamboo forest that Janice had spoken of.
Yvonne ran into the bamboo forest to take a rest without saying a word.
Janice followed behind her and handed her a bottle of water.
"We’re almost there."
Yvonne rolled her eyes at her. "You’ve said that so many times already. Janice, are you running to such a godforsaken place because you don’t have anywhere to spend your pregestational hormone?"
Janice didn’t say anything, but she knew exactly what she was doing.
She didn’t come here for no reason.
She wanted to find Joey and persuade him to admit his mistake.
<There are many ways to solve a problem. The breakdown of a friendship is sometimes the most exciting for the onlookers.
But for the people involved, it’s the most impetuous decision. It is never a pleasure, but damage to their mind.
Only the people involved know how much it hurt.
Those scars are invisible and untouchable and would stay in the injurer’s heart for the rest of their lives.>
She did not want Christopher to experience that kind of pain.
If she could make Joey voluntarily admit his mistake, it could also a compensation for Christopher.
...
However, Yvonne was still unable to understand that.
She said, "Yvonne, when you truly fall in love with someone, you will understand what I am doing today."
Yvonne snorted, "I know you care about your husband so much that you don’t treat your best friend like a human being, right?"
Janice walked over and grabbed her by the shoulder.
She said, "Aww, are you referring to my Yvonne? Isn’t she a fairy from the sky?"
Yvonne was amused by her and rolled her eyes at her.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Janice glanced at the screen and saw that it was from Christopher.
She told Yvonne and walked to the side to answer the phone.
"Hello, honey."
On the other side of the phone, Christopher had been uneasy the whole morning because of her departure.
Hearing her voice, he immediately perked up.
"Where are you now?"
Janice glanced at the bamboo forest behind her. "I’m in a beautiful place."
Yvonne couldn’t help but snort when she heard this.
Janice took a glance at her. She was afraid that Christopher would hear this, so she took a step forward and asked, "What about you? What are you doing?"
He glanced at the thick stack of documents in front of him and frowned.
"I’m at work. I’m going home later, but since you’re not there, I really don’t want to return there."
"Then, why don’t you visit Mom and Grandpa and greet them for me?"
Christopher frowned. "Don’t you want me to go to join you?"
Janice grew anxious when she heard this. "There’s no need. I’m in a remote area, and sometimes my phone doesn’t get a proper signal. What if you come and the company can’t find you?"
"I’m just going for a night. Why they have to find me?" "No, just in case," Janice hurriedly replied. Christopher frowned when he heard her anxious voice.
"Are you hiding something from me?"
He always felt that she had overreacted.
Janice was afraid of being figured out so she lowered her tone.
"No... no."
"Really?"
"I really don’t."
"Well, make a video call now and let me have a look at you."
Hearing this, Janice immediately replied, "I... I need to get an article done. The signal here isn’t good, I’ll contact you tonight."
After saying that, she hung up the phone in a hurry.
Christopher didn’t even have time to say goodbye. He frowned and put away the phone.
"If she doesn’t want me to go, then I won’t go. What is the rush?"
He put his mobile phone aside and thought of her advice. "It is a good choice to visit grandpa."
When Janice hung up the phone, she still felt guilty.
She didn’t tell him her real reason to come here. If he found out that she was looking for Joey, he would definitely come here. At that time, her plan would fail.
Therefore, before things were settled, she had to keep him in the dark.
Thinking of this, she walked back and said, "It’s about time to continue. Let’s go."
Yvonne only complained a little.
The two set off again.
When they reached the entrance of the village, Janice saw a small figure squatting in the grass.
She paused for a moment and walked forward, realizing that it was Anna. She quickly squatted down and said, "Anna, why are you here?"
Anna was surprised to see Janice here. Then she got up and threw herself into her arms. "Auntie, I don’t want to be here. I want to go home."
The rims of her eyes were red. It was obvious that she had cried before.
