Chapter 227: Just Feel Sad?

Janice paused, then responded, "Yes."

"OK! Madam, I’m sorry to tell you this, but you need to come to the traffic police detachment right now."

The man did not explain the details clearly. Janice hung up the phone and changed her clothes in a hurry before rushing over.

When she entered and saw Christopher sitting in custody, she was surprised, to say the least.

His clothes were messy, and there were bloodstains on his forehead. It was obvious that he had a traffic accident.

Janice hurried over when she saw this.

"What happened to you? Where are you hurt?" she asked nervously.

Christopher did not say a word, and only looked at her with a pair of slightly dull eyes.

Janice could only search his body over and over again until she was sure that Christopher was completely fine, except for his grazed forehead. Only then did she relax.

When she saw his focused gaze, she paused for a moment before saying, "I’m going inside for a while."

She turned around and walked inside.

"Officer, I am his wife. He is..."

"Reckless driving before crashing into the flower bed. In addition, he has been extremely uncooperative with us."

Janice hurried to apologize as she heard the police officer’s complaint. "I’m sorry. He just recovered from his injuries, and he must be not intentional."

"In this case, your need to take good care of him. It’s dangerous to drive like this. What if something happens?"

"Thank you, sir. I’ll be sure to tell him that."

After apologizing, Janice signed the fine list.

She went outside and took a look at her husband, who was sitting on the bench outside, and sighed helplessly.

"Let’s go, I’ll send you back."

Christopher stood up but ignored her. He walked straight out of the door of the traffic police station.

Janice followed closely behind him. Seeing his indifferent attitude and recalling the

traffic police’s previous words, she couldn’t help but grow angry.

"Don’t you know it’s dangerous to drive like that?"

As she spoke, he walked straight ahead and ignored her.

Janice could only step forward and block his path.

"Even if you don’t do it for yourself, you should still consider your mother and grandfather. If something is to happen to you, how would that affect them?"

"What about you?" he suddenly asked.

Janice never expected that he would ask that, and was briefly stunned and she awkwardly turned her head away.

"I... of course I would feel sad."

"Just feel sad?" he asked.

Janice didn’t reply. She didn’t want to answer. She did not like that hypothetical question.

Seeing that she was silent, he instantly felt very unhappy. "Why doesn’t she say something to comfort me? Does she disdain to lie to me?" he thought.

He stopped asking and turned to leave.

Janice hurriedly chased after him.

"Where are you going? My car is over there."

"It’s none of your business. I’ll take a taxi home myself."

As he spoke, he sped up.

She could not catch up with him.

She could only return to the car. However, as she drove over, he was already gone.

She drove around in a hurry but did not find him. She called him, but he refused to pick up.

In the end, she had no choice but to drive back alone.

That night, Janice didn’t sleep well. In her dream, he was covered in blood. When she woke up from her nightmare, she found that it was only two o’clock in the morning.

The night was still so long, but she was no longer sleepy.

In the morning, she went to work, her eyes with dark circles.

"Morning."

"Morning."

"Janice, you don’t look well. Are you okay?" asked a colleague with concern.

She shook his head. "I’m fine. I just didn’t sleep well last night. I’ll be fine after getting some shut-eye."

...

She was so busy that morning that it was past eleven o’clock when she finished. She subconsciously glanced at her mobile phone. It had been lying there quietly for the whole morning, except for the work calls.

She had called him so many times last night, but he had not replied at all. She didn’t know if he had gone to clean his scrape.

As she thought that he sat silently in the traffic police department last night, she panicked.

Christopher did not go to his office until nearly noon.

As soon as he entered, he became the focus of attention of the employees. After all, it was highly unusual for him to be tardy.

But they just talked about it in private, and did not dare to speak it out.

As soon as Christopher entered the office, Cecilia rushed in. Of course, she also noticed the scrape on her boss’s forehead.

"Mr. Bateman, you’re finally here. Mr. Charlie, the president of Firmare Technology, made an appointment with you a few days ago. You’ll have lunch together at noon today. Do you remember?" Cecilia asked cautiously.

Christopher glanced at her. "Where?"

"In the restaurant next to the Science and Technology Museum. I’ve made a reservation."

After finishing, Cecilia could not help but add, "But... Mr. Bateman, can you go like this?"

Her asking received a cold gaze from Christopher. Cecilia did not dare to say anything and quickly went out.

Christopher glanced at his watch and decided to go for the appointment.

He was early there, and the president had not yet arrived. As he waited, he caught sight of a familiar figure.

It was Benjamin. Last night they raced on the road.

Thinking of the accident last night, Christopher clenched his fists.

If that guy had not cheated last night, his Phaeton would not have been his car’s match at all.

Enemies meet on a narrow road. They actually met here.

He was just about to get up when he saw that a woman was following behind him.

Benjamin looked busy. Taking her bag, pulling the chair, and pouring tea for her. He had been most attentive to her, from the moment she had entered the room to the moment she sat down.

Seeing this, Christopher was not in a hurry to go forward. He wanted to see the relationship between him and the woman.

"Mr. Bateman, I’m so sorry. I was stuck in a traffic jam."

At this time, Mr. Charlie finally arrived.

Christopher did not care. He was no longer in the mood to eat.

Mr. Charlie was a very talkative person, and there was thankfully no awkwardness during the meal.

However, Christopher seemed absent-minded. His attention was always on Benjamin.

He saw very clearly that Benjamin was unusually attentive to that woman. He even had such intimate actions of feeding her and wiping her lips.

He was certain that they had an illicit relationship.

This scum!

He was riding on two boats.

The more Christopher thought about it, the angrier he became. Finally, he found an opportunity. Benjamin got up and went to the bathroom.

Christopher stood up and followed him.

Benjamin just walked out of the toilet as he saw Christopher coming in. he was stunned for a second. Then he thought of something and sneered, "What a coincidence!"

As he passed by, he glanced at the scrape wound on his forehead, and a smirk appeared on his face. He stopped in front of the sink, turned on the tap, and started washing his hands.

Christopher saw the smug look on his face from the mirror. He couldn’t help clenching his fists and stepping forward.

...

Benjamin had already seen him approaching from the mirror and noticed the anger in his eyes.

He knew very well that Christopher was here to take revenge on him.

However, he wasn’t flustered at all. He hadn’t performed well the last time, and now was just the right time.

Thinking of this, he slowly wiped his hands, turned around to face him, and stared at his murderous eyes. He sneered, "Do you want to fight again? Come on then, do your worst."

Looking at him, Christopher really wanted to teach him a lesson. He couldn’t stand it anymore. He grabbed him by the collar and put him hard against the wall.

"You scum! She’s pregnant but you’re here seducing another woman."

Benjamin’s arm hit the wall because of that push. That was too hurt, and he was rubbing his arm. However, hearing Christopher’s words, he froze.

"Who pregnant? Are you crazy?"

He had a blank look on his face. He felt rather confused.

Christopher stepped forward, grabbed him by the collar again, and questioned him.

"Don’t you know about her pregnancy?"

Hearing this, Benjamin suddenly understood. It turned out that she was pregnant. No wonder her colleagues cared so much about her that night.

He had thought that she was popular.

At this point, he understood everything, including Christopher’s strange behavior toward him during this period of time.

"So that’s what you’re here for... Don’t be ridiculous! Do you think that child is mine or something?" He sneered.

Christopher was a little confused.

"What do you mean?"

Benjamin became serious, break away from his hand, and adjusted his tie. He took off his coat and put it on the sink. Then he suddenly punched out.

"What do you mean? She’s your wife, but you suspect that the child is mine. How neurotic! Don’t you believe her?"

Benjamin punched him in the head. Christopher was about to fight back. However, as he heard these words. He stopped. He was very astonished.

"What did you say?"

Benjamin did not answer him. He said angrily, "You know, you really are a scumbag! Do you know how much pain she suffered through during the period when you were unconscious?"

"In order to force her to divorce you, your father imprisoned her and humiliated her. She begged me to save her, but you suspected that there was something between us.

"Damn it! I really want to have a fling with her, but she has never taken me seriously. She threatened your father to jump off the building, just to see you. What else do you want?"

Benjamin became more and more excited as he spoke. He had never talked dirty words before, but this time he did.

"I’m telling you, buddy. I saved her! You should be thanking me, not bringing this nonsense to me."

"Christopher, if you don’t cherish her, someone will."

After saying that, Benjamin grabbed his coat and walked out angrily.

Christopher stood there, feeling dizzy.

How could this be?

What he knew was completely different from what he had told him?

He felt that his head was so heavy.

He squatted down with his hands on his head.

"It’s my child."

"But why didn’t she tell me?" he thought.

He thought about her painful eyes.

"She needs to give me an explanation."

He stood up and left the restaurant in a hurry. He looked in a mess and he was not going to change it. He drove all the way to his apartment by the lake.

He entered the apartment, ignoring the surprised gazes of bystanders. He walked all the way to Janice’s door.

"Open the door."

He knocked on the door and pressed the doorbell.
