Chapter 180: Kids Who Speak Sweetly Always Get Candy
Her tone softened and she scolded lightly, "Look at you. He’s your father after all. Even if we have separated, it won’t change his identity. Don’t say that about him."
Christopher did not say a word.
His parents have always been arguing even in his earliest memories.
Later on, his mother had sent him to his grandfather’s house.
He had never asked about it all these years, but in his heart, he knew better than anyone just how much his mother had suffered.
He took a step forward and pulled his mother into his arms.
Wanda wanted to cry, but she tried her best to hold tears in. She didn’t want to show her weakness in front of her son.
She quickly sorted out her emotions, stood up, and said, "By the way, did your date with Janice go well?"
Chris frowned when he heard that, "How did you know?"
Wanda replied, "No one knows a son better than his mother. I guessed it as soon as I heard you’d arrived at the seaside villa with Janice."
Chris had guessed that she heard it from Rob.
But he didn’t expose her.
"By the way, when will you and Janice hold a wedding ceremony? This is also your grandfather’s wish. Your grandfather said that you should give her a wedding."
Chris nodded. "I have a plan in mind."
"Really? Do you want to make an appointment with me? I’m telling you, I recently got a very rare gem. If you’re willing to ask me, I’m would be very willing to give you it." Wanda hinted.
But Chris didn’t appreciate it. "Not needed for now."
Wanda was a bit disappointed. "Can’t you act sweetly to me? Kids who speak sweetly always get candy."
He had always been so independent ever since he was a child. Wanda’s heart hurt when she saw him behaving like that.
Chris did not speak, but frowned.
Wanda knew that he did not like to do this kind of thing, so she did not force him. "Okay, okay, I know that you have your own plans. I should go and see to my brand. I heard that you made it pretty nice not long ago."
"Yes."
After talking to Wanda, Chris thought of something. When he returned to the company, he immediately called Rob to his office.
"Mr. Bateman, you were looking for me?" Rob said.
Chris nodded. "Cancel all my schedule for the afternoon. I’m going to an auction."
Rob was put in a difficult position. After all, the itinerary had been pre-arranged, and it would be very troublesome to suddenly cancel it. However, he didn’t dare to not obey Chris, so he could only nod and agree.
In the afternoon, Janice, who had been driven out by Old Mr. Allson, had nothing to do but return to the TV station.
However, there was still no work for her to do in the news department.
She stayed there for a while and felt a little bored, so she got up and left.
As soon as they entered the elevator, a panicked figure rushed in and stepped on Janice’s foot.
"I’m sorry." The man apologized.
Janice wanted to say that it was fine, but she realized that the man was actually her former colleague from the variety department, Anthony.
However, he seemed to be anxious and kept making calls.
Janice stood to the side and waited for him to hang up before asking, "Anthony what’s wrong?"
Anthony only realized that it was Janice. "Oh Janice, it’s you. I don’t know what’s going on with Andy who is in charge of the props. The program is about to start but they haven’t sent the dog here yet. I can’t get in touch with them either. Director Troy is furious."
Having been in the variety department for a period of time, Janice knew Director Troy’s temper very well.
The lightest punishment would be to be scolded. In serious cases, the director might even fire the staff.
Anthony was so nervous probably because he was afraid of being fired.
She thought for a moment and asked, "What kind of dog do you need?"
...
Anthony said, "It just has to have some skill, but time is of the essence now. Where can I find a dog that knows tricks?"
Janice knew that the crew would have to apply one week in advance for any prop needed by the program, not to mention a living prop like this one.
She thought for a moment and said, "How about this, you go back and try to push the recording back by half an hour. I will come up with something."
"Will this work?" Anthony hesitated.
"Do you have a better idea?" Janice asked.
Anthony shook his head. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Janice."
Anthony turned and walked away while Janice drove back to the villa.
After entering the villa, she went straight to the kennel.
Anthony had said that he needed a dog that knew some trick and she had thought of Nino.
She walked to the front of the kennel where Nino was lying quietly.
She stretched out her hand to pick Nino up and said, "Nino, shall I take you somewhere fun?"
Nino yipped twice as if answering her question.
Janice patted its head before getting up and leaving.
She put Nino in the passenger seat and fastened her seat belt before driving off.
Due to the time constraint, she drove as fast as she could.
When she reached an intersection, a car suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Fortunately, she turned the steering wheel in time and managed to avoid it.
However, her car hit the railing by the side of the road.
Janice sat in the driver’s seat, looking at the scene before her in shock. She had almost gotten into a collision.
She clutched her chest and heaved a sigh of relief.
Just then, someone knocked on her window.
"Hey, do you know how to drive? Do you have eyes?"
Two men knocked on the window fiercely.
Janice knew that they were the people from the other car. She calmed down before rolling down her window. "I think you guys are the ones who violated the traffic rules. You can’t turn around here."
"Which eye of yours did you see us turn around with?" One of the men said fiercely.
Janice was rendered speechless. She had encountered someone totally unreasonable. Since she was in a hurry, she said, "I’m in a hurry, so you guys don’t have to compensate me. I will get it fixed."
It was just bad luck on her part.
Janice had originally thought that making a concession like this would lead to the matter passing. However, not only was the other party not grateful, but they even turned the tables on her.
"Of course you have to get your car repaired yourself. But what about our car? Our car was damaged by you. You have to pay for it."
"That’s right, pay for it."
The two men echoed each other. It was obvious that they were not going to let her go.
Janice finally understood that they were doing it on purpose.
However, she was never one to be bullied, especially when it came to such matters.
She said, "If that is the case, I’ll call the traffic police to handle it."
Did they think that she did not dare to call the police since she was in a rush? Was that why they were trying to push the blame on her?
She was about to make a phone call when her phone was suddenly snatched away.
"How dare you call the cops? Don’t try to make things difficult for yourself when we are already letting you off lightly."
The man raised her phone in the air and threatened her.
Janice snorted when she saw this. She opened the car door and got out and she said to the two of them, "Do you think that I can’t call the police just because you took my phone?"
After saying that, she glanced at the backup phone on her wrist.
As reporters, there would always be times when they were in danger. That was why news reporters all have a smart watch. It acted like an ordinary watch when they did not use it, but they could use it at critical moments.
For example, she could call the police with just a press of the button.
However, before she could press it, the two men seemed to have realized what she was going to do. They quickly stepped forward and grabbed her arm.
"What are you two doing?" Janice was stunned. "What are we doing? You will find out soon." They said as they dragged her towards their car.
"Stop!" Someone suddenly yelled from behind them.
...
The two men stopped and looked over. A black Phaeton was parked there, and a handsome man was getting out of the car.
He seemed to be a wealthy person. The two men looked at each other and warned, "Mind your own business!"
Benjamin closed the door and walked forward. He ignored their warnings and glanced at Janice. He then said to the two men, "Where are you taking her to?"
The two of them exchanged a look.
"It’s none of your business."
Benjamin sneered. "She’s my friend. Do you think it has anything to do with me?"
The two men were stunned. They probably didn’t expect that they knew each other.
The two whispered to each other for a while before releasing Janice.
"You are lucky today!"
The two of them left while cursing.
"Bro, what should we do? Just let her go?"
"What else do you want? He was looking."
The two of them muttered and left.
Benjamin stared at the backs of the two departing men. He frowned and then stepped forward.
"Are you alright?"
Janice caressed her aching arm and shook her head. "I’m fine."
Benjamin’s eyes fell on her arm’s bruise.
"You’re injured. Let me take you to the hospital."
Janice glanced at her wound. "No need. It’s minor. I have to get back to the TV station."
She walked towards her car while speaking. However, the car seemed to be a little broken as its front light was damaged.
"I’m afraid you can’t drive anymore. Let me drive you." Benjamin said as he walked toward his car.
"But, it will delay your time." Janice hesitated.
"It doesn’t matter. It’s just an auction. It’s okay to go a little later. Get in the car."
As he spoke, he opened the door of the passenger seat.
Janice glanced around, this wasn’t a place where she could get a taxi. Considered it was an urgent matter, she opened the door and carried Fanny over.
"Thank you."
"Get in the car."
After she got into the car, Benjamin started it.
He peeked at the dog in her arms. "This dog looks quite cute. Is it yours?" "Its name is Nino," Janice nodded.
Benjamin chuckled when he heard the name. He then asked, "By the way, what happened to the two people just now?"
Janice recounted what had happened.
Upon hearing this, Benjamin was worried.
He felt that those two people were suspicious, they obviously came for Janice.
Suddenly, a phone rang, interrupting his thoughts.
Janice picked her phone up.
"Mike, I’ll be right there. Don’t worry." Janice was comforting him.
"What’s wrong?" Benjamin asked after she hung up the phone.
She then told him about the dog props.
"Can you drive faster?"
Benjamin nodded and accelerated the car.
"Haven’t you returned to the news department?" He asked.
"Oh, I’m just there to help," Janice replied.
Benjamin stopped talking and continued driving.
The car soon stopped in front of the TV station.
Janice quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out. "Thank you for the ride."
Benjamin nodded and watched her enter the TV station. He drove out when she was no longer in his sight.
