Chapter 2928 - The Contented Heart Scepter
Su Yi sat cross-legged in his room. He’d already placed a concealment formation over the entire room.
The Nine Mysteries of Chaos floated around him, each emanating a distinctive aura of the Grand Dao.
The Writing Brush of Genesis whooshed forth, its tip touching the Blade of Heaven’s Loathing.
Weng!
A strange buzzing rang out, and the Blade of Heaven's Loathing dissolved, like snow melting into water. Its mysterious, inscrutable power flowed into the Writing Brush of Genesis through the tip.
It was as if the brush had now absorbed enough “ink.” It now shone with new, extraordinary luster.
Su Yi gazed intently at the Writing Brush of Genesis. Earlier, he’d learned from the Book of Karma that there was no need for him to personally intervene in the fusion of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos. All he had to do was watch.
This was because the “oldest sibling,” the Writing Brush of Genesis, could serve as a vessel for their source energies, like a cauldron of sorts. It could then fuse with the other eight treasures.
That was exactly what was happening now.
The Writing Brush of Genesis had only just fused with the Blade of Heaven’s Loathing when it moved onto the Sword of Proximity, then the Sky-Stealing Hook, and the other remaining treasures. With each one it absorbed, its aura transformed, and even its shape shifted, as if it were a wriggling bundle of chaos firelight.
When it fused with the other eight Mysteries of Chaos, the Writing Brush of Genesis transformed into chaos itself, scattering firelight. A strange, terrifying aura arose, shaking the formations covering the room.
Su Yi’s gaze focused, and he swung his sleeve through the air.
The Book of Destiny appeared to suppress the brush’s power.
But against Su Yi’s expectations, the Book of Destiny couldn’t really suppress the Writing Brush of Genesis. On the contrary, the brush’s power left the book shaking as if about to fall.
Su Yi knew that it wasn’t that the Book of Destiny was weak, but that his control of it was far from adequate. Even so, Su Yi hadn’t anticipated that the brush’s power would be able to shake the book.
The Book of Karma had told Su Yi that if he couldn’t restrain the fused Nine Mysteries of Chaos, they’d vanish into the Will of the Heavens. They’d effectively be gone forever.
Given the circumstances, how could Su Yi possibly be negligent? Without further hesitation, he drew out his ultimate killing weapon—the Sword of the Nine Hells!
Mysterious, unsurpassed sword force flooded into the room. The Writing Brush of Genesis froze as if it had been struck by lightning, then obediently stopped struggling and just hovered in midair.
Su Yi inwardly sighed in relief. Part of him had been worried that not even the Sword of the Nine Hells could have stopped the fused Writing Brush of Genesis, and that would have been a disaster. All of his efforts and planning would have gone to waste.
Su Yi took a moment to calm himself, then examined the brush’s changes. It now resembled undulating chaos. The wondrous transformations of the Grand Dao surged within it. Occasionally, Su Yi caught fleeting glimpses of the Blade of Heaven’s Loathing, the Sword of Proximity, and the other Mysteries of Chaos.
The changes weren’t over yet. The brush was still transforming.
All Su Yi could do was wait patiently.
Lu Shi told him that it was only by gathering all of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos that one could uncover the true secrets hidden within these treasures.
Su Yi couldn’t help but be eager to see what they’d become.
Time slipped by. Soon, enough time to burn a stick of incense had passed.
The undulating chaos of the Writing Brush of Genesis suddenly rumbled and boomed. A miraculous vision unfolded before Su Yi’s very eyes.
It was like the first parting of primordial chaos. The chaos split, then surged with all manner of chaos auras.
The pure energies rose, while the turbid energies sank. Mountains and rivers sprouted, then expanded, covering the longitudes and latitudes of the earth...
It was like witnessing the creation of a new world!
In the end, a scepter appeared amidst this newborn world.
It really was a scepter, but it was extraordinarily tiny, just nine inches long and as thin as a chopstick. It looked as if it had been carved out of murky gray chaos jade.
It didn’t seem eye-catching, but upon closer inspection, it was like the first divine artifact created after the first parting of primordial chaos. It seemed capable of supporting heaven and earth, demarcating purity and filth, cycling Yin and Yang, determining the longitudes and latitudes of the earth, and illuminating the sun, stars, and moon...
It was like the master of creation, the parter of chaos creating a wondrous and mystical world.
The impression it gave off was far too shocking.
Su Yi even noticed that as the scepter appeared, wisps of primordial power of the Grand Dao surged around it, intertwining and forming Laws of the natural order!
Su Yi quickly understood. These are the powers of the Grand Dao that made up the original Nine Mysteries of Chaos, like the Book of Karma’s power over Karma and the Yin-Yang Diagram’s Yin-Yang power.
In the end, all of these strange phenomena faded away. All that remained was the nine-inch scepter hovering in midair.
Then, Su Yi watched in astonishment as a three-inch human figure appeared on its tip. As small as he was, he was fully formed, with fair, clearly defined features and robes woven out of chaos. He wore his hair in a Daoist topknot, and he had clear, handsome features.
He sat cross-legged atop the scepter, eyes flashing like stars. It was an adorable sight.
At least it would have been, if not for the extreme arrogance obvious in his expression. Even just sitting there casually, he had an air of lofty superiority, as if he were looking down on everyone around him.
Su Yi was really a bit stunned. That the fused Nine Mysteries of Chaos had turned into a scepter was surprising enough, but the appearance of a man just a few inches tall caught him completely off guard!
“No wonder you managed to suppress me. I didn’t realize that sword was so strong...” The miniature man looked at the Sword of the Nine Hells, his little face utterly grim.
He then looked at Su Yi and barked, “Don’t just stand there! Hurry up and put that sword away! If it hurts me, you’ll have to bear the consequences!”
Su Yi didn’t know what to say. The midget’s quite arrogant, huh? But... Why does he seem somehow familiar?
Ah, I see. That tone of his is shockingly similar to Sixth Brother Book!
“It won’t be too late to put away the sword after you’ve told me a bit about yourself,” said Su Yi.
The little man pointed at himself with his thumb. “I disdain to hide my name, so here it is: I’m Chen Xin, the spirit of the Contented Heart Scepter!"
“Chen Xin? As in ‘a contented heart’?” Su Yi was instantly intrigued. “The name’s a bit low-class, but it’s at least pleasing to the ear.”
The miniature man crossed his arms and sneered. “Low-class? The hell do you know? It’s only by following your heart that it can know contentment. I didn’t choose this name casually, either. Rather, it was nourished by heaven and earth and granted to me by chaos itself!”
The little man was far too proud. It wasn’t just his mannerisms; even his gaze and tone were tinged with incomparable pride.
Su Yi didn’t mind. He just smiled and started asking other questions.
As prideful as the little man was, he was at least willing to respond, and soon, Su Yi had a basic understanding of the scepter.
It had the powers of all of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos, and it could take on their various forms.
Were that the extent of it, Su Yi wouldn’t have been impressed. That was just fusing nine treasures into one, after all.
But what really made the Contented Heart Scepter special was that it was a Secret Heart Treasure!
This was outside of Su Yi’s expectations, but when he thought about it, it made sense. The name Chen Xin did, after all, mean “Contented Heart,” and the little man spoke of the importance of staying true to one’s heart.
This was the first Secret Heart Treasure Su Yi had encountered during this lifetime’s cultivation.
Su Yi thought back to Jiang Wuchen’s memories. Only then did he dare to confirm something.
Jiang Wuchen had lived a life blessed by all manner of good fortune and fortuitous encounters, including untold numbers of miraculous treasures.
But he’d never acquired a Secret Heart Treasure!
Moreover, he could count the Secret Heart Treasures he’d heard of on a single hand, and even then, all he knew were rumors.
On the River of Destiny, Secret Heart Treasures were considered objects of legend. They’d been spoken of during the Primordial Era and the Devastation, but no one had ever actually seen one!
There were rumors that the Nine-Colored Lotus Heart of the Spirit Mountain Buddhist Court was a Secret Heart Treasure of unbelievable power, but the Spirit Mountain Buddhist Court had never confirmed it.
A Heavenly Sovereign once announced that only those who’d reached the Far Shore of Destiny could seek out Secret Heart Treasures, and that such treasures were nowhere to be found on the River of Destiny!
Combing through his memories helped Su Yi understand on a visceral level how precious a treasure he’d found this time.
The “Contented Heart Scepter” wasn’t at all inferior to the Book of Destiny. It had numerous wondrous applications all its own!
That aside, Su Yi realized several other things, too. For instance, all of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos’ powers and memories had originally belonged to the little man, Chen Xin. They were divided into nine afterward.
Now that they’d fused back into one, Chen Xin had complete source power and memories.
More than that, he’d reawakened his awareness and sense of self!
Only then did he understand. It’s no wonder his smug demeanor reminded me of Sixth Brother Book. So that’s why!
“How could a place like the Immortal Realm have given rise to a Secret Heart Treasure like you? It’s truly unbelievable,” sighed Su Yi. He meant it, too. After all, the Immortal Realm was beneath the River of Epochs. It was far inferior to the God Domain, let alone the River of Destiny and the Eternal Heavens Domain.
But against all expectations, Chen Xin laughed coldly. “Ignoramus! All cultivators are rooted in the masses, and all Grand Daos are rooted in chaos!
“The world’s path of cultivation has never been pre-determined or unchanging.
“Haven’t you questioned who created and defined the Immortal Dao? Or why it cannot transcend all other Daos?”
This series of questions left Su Yi unwittingly stunned. Don’t tell me there are secrets hidden in the ranking of the different Grand Daos?
Chen Xin shook his head. “One look at you, and it’s obvious that although you’ve become the Master of the Epochs, you’ve yet to truly Bring Order. More than that, you have no idea of the true significance of Bringing Order.”
Su Yi’s heart shook. Bringing Order? What does that have to do with the world’s different paths of cultivation?
Many things occurred to Su Yi all at once. He thought of the various paths of cultivation he’d walked during this lifetime, and of the lost epochs of the Path of the Ancient Gods...
Soon, he froze in place and sank deep into thought. A long time passed in silence.
