Chapter 463: Not his.
Darius.
Silence.
That was the only thing that remained between us as I let her rash words settle between us. My hands balled into fists by my sides and for the first time, I felt this irresistible urge to hit her.
To make her seal her lips shut forever.
To weaken her, just like I had weakened her father.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance— in my bid to appear nonchalant— and then I hissed; "You’re spewing nonsense. There’s nothing I can do or say to make you believe me if you have chosen not to."
"Well, so are you." She clapped back without hesitation, making my eyebrows shoot so high until it disappeared into my hairline. "I also thought you were spewing nonsense when you asked me to marry you, which is preposterous if you come to think about it. Me... your sister."
"You are NOT my sister!" I bellowed so loudly, the veins at the sides of my neck protested. But she didn’t seem affected. She simply smiled.
"I don’t care what you say, Darius. We are family nevertheless and it is disgusting that you would think that we ought to be joined in matrimony in order to get the throne and the company. In fact, you already rule these things, so why the fuck do you still need my help?!"
"Because I am susceptible to losing them!" The words rushed out of my mouth before I could stop them and it wasn’t until it did that I realized just how much of a terrible mistake I had just made.
My hands shot upwards to cover my mouth but at this time, it was already a little too late. I hissed; "Forget I said that."
But did she listen?
Hell, the question I should be asking is: will she ever listen?
I saw the moment the weight of my words settled somewhere in Leilani’s mind and I also saw the moment her expression shifted from straight up confused to something darker... something utterly twisted.
She hissed; "As you should."
I froze. "What do you mean by that?"
Goddess, she was getting on my nerves. No one ever gets on my nerves this badly and lives to tell the story. No one— absolutely no one— gets me so worked up besides her.
And as she waltzed even closer, so close that I caught a whiff of her extremely tantalizing scent that was so sweet, it made my Lycan go mad, my nerves twisted even more into the tightest knot you could ever imagine.
"I mean that you deserve it." She purred fearlessly, sounding every bit like her father. "You deserve to lose everything you have now for watching the man you once called father get killed. You deserve to be sent back to the filth where you belong for not doing anything after finding out about the secrets behind his death... and you deserve even worse fate for trying to win me over by promising protection in the form of marriage."
"Leilani..."
"You have tainted my father’s name for so long. And you always knew that going forward with this whole bizarre marriage proposal would make that situation even worse. But you didn’t care? Did you stop for a moment to think about anything besides your disgusting ambitions?"
"You need to understand me..."
"No, YOU need to understand me!" She rasped back indignantly, "but you don’t, do you? Do you want to know why you don’t understand me?" She snarled angrily at me and when I wouldn’t respond right away, she shrugged. Her eyes were wild as she spat;
"Because nothing gets past your thick skull besides your needs. You are so selfish you do not care about anything but yourself!"
"Leilani—"
"And I will never marry you!" She added with a note of finality in her voice, twisting the knife already buried into my heart even deeper into my chest. "It was never up for consideration! I will never marry you even if you are the last man on earth and I will ensure that you do not get all of the things you are so desperate to get even if I have to fight you for it."
The determination I heard in her voice made my blood run cold.
Why?
Because I had never heard anything like it before.
She may have always been cold to me but had never ever threatened me before; And now, it was clear as day that that was what she was doing right now.
Her eyes glazed with fury as she raked them from the top of my head to my toes; and goddess, I wanted to make her pay for saying these things to me. For threatening me when it was so unnecessary. I wanted to hurt her like she has hurt me. But for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to do any of that. Instead, looking at her lips, the only thing I could think of was:
Kiss her.
Yes, my Lycan wouldn’t stop whispering those words to me. They wouldn’t stop echoing in my head over and over and over again.
I tried to push out the thoughts but the more I looked at her, the stronger the urge to claim her became.
So without thinking it through, I held both of her arms so tightly, she was unable to move an inch and then I slammed my lips against hers with brutal force.
At first, she froze.
But she never kissed me back.
She bit me instead.
—
Leilani.
"Arghhh! Fuck!" Darius yelled out in anguish as soon as my teeth closed down heavily on his lower lip.
His eyes, red and swollen darkened as he pushed me away from himself and took a few steps away from me.
He was visibly shaking with anger and embarrassment, while I, on the other hand was annoyed and satisfied. Annoyed that he would take it this far and satisfied to see him bleeding.
I hissed; "The next time you’ll try that, I’ll have your tongue."
But he didn’t seem fazed. Do you know how he seemed instead?
Satisfied.
There was a satisfied smile on his face— one that I wanted to wipe off so badly.
"So you know that there will be a next time..." he drawled with a small smile, "you know that next time, I’ll try to claim you again. And that I’ll keep trying until you’re mine."
Until you’re mine...
Until you’re mine.
Mine.
Mine.
Those words echoed in my head on a loop for the longest of time. It made me see red and filled me with so much anger, it was a miracle how I haven’t combusted yet.
I took a small step back, holding his gaze as I wiped my lips clean with the back of my sleeve. And then I hissed; "There will not be a next time."
"Are you sure?" He asked, his tone suggestive. "Are you sure you do not need me as much as I need you?"
His words were making me furious. So furious I could not think straight. And in that moment, all I wanted was to see him hurt... in pain and suffering.
And that was what I did.
I do not know when or how I pulled at his arm, but next thing I knew, there was a loud thump then a cry of pain. I only came to when I realized what I had done...
...That I had picked him up and thrown him over my shoulder... and that now, he was sprawled on the floor, bleeding from a cut at the corner of his mouth and from somewhere behind his ear.
I snarled; "I will kill you."
