Chapter 437: Getaway.

Leilani.

I woke up to the sound of dripping water. To the sound of waves crashing into the shoreline. To birds chirping in the distance and to the rustling sounds of dry leaves as it hit the ground.

My eyelids fluttered open slowly, only snapping back closed when I was met with an insane amount of sunlight.

I winced. "Where am I?"

But there was no response. No nothing.

It felt as though I had passed out and then the triplets had dumped me in some abandoned beach or something like that...

However, I knew that they could never do something like that so I tried again.

"Is anyone there?"

I squeezed my eyes shut as I forced out those words through my hoarse throat, while I waited to hear the sounds of approaching footsteps or something— anything that would give away the presence of another person around me.

Still, there was nothing.

In desperation, I peeled my eyes open one more time, groaning this time when I was met with that same bright light. The sun nearly rendered me blind but I was fast to dodge it. I rose into a sitting position and my mouth nearly fell open when I realized that I was not hallucinating, and that in fact, I was in a beach house!

Yeah, you heard me right. A beach house!

It had high ceilings made purely from very thick glass which made it quite possible for me to feel the intense sunlight, or see it as the case may be, but not get to feel it on my skin or get burned from it.

And as for the birds chirping in the distance and the leaves rustling... well, let’s just say that the beach house is in the middle of nowhere.

Speaking of the middle of nowhere...

Where the fuck am I and who brought me here to abandon me?

"Is anyone there?!" I barked, my voice rising so much, it echoed throughout the vast space. "Hello? Hello, is anyone there?!" A second passed and then two, and when no one responded or would respond, a feeling of foreboding settled deep at the base of my stomach.

Fear crept up my spine despite my attempts not to panic, and in that moment, I swear I couldn’t help but start to think up a thousand and one scenarios as to why I was here and not in the triplets’ mansion where I had slept off— or passed out— a couple of hours ago.

I rolled off the beautiful queen sized bed that suddenly began to look like a sacrificial altar to me— you know, as in one of those cases where a large structure is decorated beautifully for the sole aim of sacrificing women...?

Don’t blame me, I watched Blink twice recently.

But that aside, that was the vibe I began to get as I rolled off the bed and made my way out the door.

The door however led to a narrow passage which I walked through until I found an airy stairway leading downstairs— wherever downstairs led to— and then, I stopped.

"Where are the triplets?" I whispered to myself under my breath, "What about Maya?"

I was soon pulled out of these thoughts when I heard the faint sound of footsteps coming from ’downstairs’ and upon realizing that I would never find out what the hell is happening if I do not face it head on, I slowly began to descend the stairs one foot at a time... one step before the other...

Slowly... slowly...

Until—

"You’re awake?" A familiar voice called out, snapping me out of my reverie.

I froze only for a second just as my eyes snapped up in fright or was that surprise...? and my nose soon scrunched up when I saw... girllllll, is that Kael walking into the house from a double door up front?

I gulped.

What the—?

But it wasn’t the fact that he was here looking like there were secret cameras everywhere and he was on a runway that had me so flustered.

It was his overall appearance!

It was the water in his hair and the droplets which now dripped down his forehead, his face, his chest... bloody goddess on a bicycle! It was the way it trailed downwards and downwards until it disappeared into the waistline of his shorts.

Ladies and gentlemen, shorts!

As in boxer briefs!

It took me a moment to get my brain to do a reboot, and when this finally happened, my face heated up. A blush as hot as molten magma crept up my face and a sound akin to that of a cat purring left my throat even before I could control myself.

I snapped; "What the fuck?"

And do you know what he did? Do you know how the entity responded to my flusteredness?

He chuckled.

The sound vibrated in the air, washing over me like silk. I shuddered when he stepped forward— dripping mess and all— and then came to rest the back of his hand against my forehead.

He drawled; "You seem better. Less hot." And then taking a step back, he tilted his head to the side, watched me closely for a second or two and continued; "...even your face now has some color."

I frowned, and unable to come up with better words, I settled for; "Huh?"

"You were burning up with a fever and no matter how hard we tried to break the fever, it was fruitless."

"Where am I?" I asked the one question that has been bugging me ever since I peeled my eyes open, whilst ignoring everything else he had said about the fever.

I guess I will talk to him about it later. First, I need to understand what the hell is happening.

My eyes snapped up just then to catch him staring at me. But he wasn’t staring in the ’you ungrateful brat’ kind of way. He was staring in the... in the... how do I explain it? In the ’I want to have you for lunch’ type of way. I blushed.

"Where am I?" I asked again but for some reason, I sounded quieter. Softer. Goddess, I didn’t sound like me.

He made a sound deep in his throat before he told a step back to ruffle his hair, and in that moment, I couldn’t help but groan.

Why?

Because he’d just taken some of his body warmth with himself.

He muttered; "you’re— we are— at our getaway house."

"Your getaway house?" I echoed like a bird— brainless. Thoughtless.

Don’t blame me. A man as hot as fire is standing right in front of me!

I saw something akin to amusement flicker in his eyes before he clamped it down quickly and nodded once, his dimples digging into his skin as he continued in a soft tone;

"Yes, our getaway house, Lani. We’re in Seychelles."
