Chapter 66: 66-Bra Off In His Office
Verity:
Flashback:
"As Alpha King Ragnar’s personal secretary, you will be working in his office," the HR manager said. "Your desk is in the corner."
I walked silently behind him.
Two years had passed and I have managed to nail the interview somehow.
"You’ll be able to find your way from here?" the HR manager asked, stopping mid-step when he realized I had not spoken in a while.
I straightened slightly and gave a small nod.
"Yes, sir," I replied.
He walked away.
I stepped into the elevator, my fingers hovering over the fifth-floor button.
I knew exactly where I was supposed to go.
But instead, I lowered my hand and pressed the third.
This was just the beginning.
I smoothed my skirt as I stepped out of the elevator.
It fit close along my waist and hips before falling straight down.
My white blouse was simple, the top buttons left open just enough.
I had lost weight over the past two years, and my body had settled into something curvier.
My waist was smaller now, my curves more defined.
I adjusted my sleeve and steadied my breath.
Nothing about this was accidental.
I pushed my glasses up the bridge of my nose, the oversized frames sitting just right against my face.
My blond hair was pulled into a loose bun, a few strands slipping free around my face, my bangs falling softly at the front.
I stopped outside Alpha King Theodore’s office, my hand trembling as I reached for the door.
I remembered our last encounter.
It had been charged, tangled in something that blurred the line between desire and betrayal.
I pulled a few files from my bag, the ones meant for Alpha King Ragnar’s office, and held them loosely in my hands.
Then I pushed the door open and stepped inside.
"I’m so sorry, Alpha King Ragnar. I’m late," I said, letting the files slip from my grasp as I dropped to my knees to gather them.
As I bent down, one of the top buttons of my shirt loosened, the fabric parting slightly.
A sharp gasp cut through the room, and it was not the deep voice I had expected.
I lifted my head to watch the scene.
Alpha King Theodore was not alone.
He had company, and not just any company. It was very intimate and seductive.
A blonde, short-haired woman quickly got off his lap, turning her back to me as she fixed her shirt and adjusted her bra.
I froze, still kneeling, my gaze lifting as I watched them in silence.
Then my eyes shifted to the man beside her.
Alpha King Theodore.
The handsome prince I remembered had turned into something else.
He had a light mustache and beard now.
Broader, stronger, but still lean through the waist.
His shoulders were wide, his presence dark and ominous.
There was something different in his eyes.
Not just desire.
Power.
"Do you idiots not knock before barging in?" the woman snapped.
Theodore remained seated, leaning slightly to the side, his gaze fixed on me.
"Who is she?" the blonde demanded, snapping his attention back to her.
"I am the new secretary of Alpha King —-," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"I’m so sorry. I thought this was someone else’s office," I murmured.
The woman folded her arms, her head shaking in disbelief.
"And when you enter someone else’s office, you don’t knock?" the woman yelled, placing her hands on her waist.
Meanwhile, Theodore’s eyes were fixed on me, as though he were completely captivated.
"No, it’s just—it’s my first day," I uttered anxiously, trying to show that I was not being cocky and that I had not intentionally walked in on something I wasn’t supposed to see.
"And on your first day, you forget how to knock?" she continued to yell.
At that moment, I realized she was going to be a problem.
What confused me even more was that I had done all my research and had never found any indication that Theodore was dating anyone at the time.
So who the fuck was she?
Had he met someone recently?
Then again, their lives were incredibly private. It was really difficult to dig up anything about them.
Maybe he had a girlfriend, or maybe she was someone new.
Whatever the case, the two of them were extremely handsy.
Getting intimate in an office without even locking the door showed just how ballsy they were.
She had short, curly blonde hair, blue eyes, and a kind of effortless beauty.
"I’ll leave," I murmured, already turning away.
This was not how it was supposed to go. Being caught like that left a bitter sting of embarrassment.
The moment I turned, I heard his voice for the first time in years.
Something inside me faltered.
"Wait."
That single word froze me in place.
"What’s your name?" he asked, and I went still.
I turned slowly.
He was already on his feet, watching me.
As he walked toward me, I stepped back without thinking.
Now that I was finally facing him, the man I had sworn to destroy, my legs threatened to give away.
He stopped a couple of feet away, his hands still in his pockets, his presence pressing in on me.
"Verity," I whispered.
The moment I said my name, something in him shifted.
His eyes softened.
The hardness in his face eased.
"Theodore, ask her to leave. She’s making me uncomfortable," the woman snapped.
He didn’t look away from me. Only his head turned slightly in her direction.
That was my cue.
I turned on my heel and was gone before he could stop me.
I headed straight for the staircase instead of the elevator.
I slipped behind the stairwell wall and paused just long enough to look back.
Theodore rushed out of the office, his gaze sweeping the hallway.
"Theodore, what is wrong with you?" the woman called after him.
"Why the heck were you staring at her like your life depended on it?" I heard the woman yell.
At least she had confirmed that he had been watching me intently.
